I find it amusing how they were vague about the "incident" but were quick to say it was a female crew member just to make it seem like it was some kind of secsual assault.
They were quick to say that because everybody was saying that it was because of something that happened between him and the Israeli contestant and clearly, that was not the case and rumours had to be stopped.
He had one boundary, not being filmed when leaving the stage and going backstage after the final emotional bit of singing for him about losing his parents at a young age. The woman ignored it every time and was rude. He just pushed a camera away nothing happend to the lady.... EBU is not right in the head.
Do you have something that supports this claim? Not trying to say that I don't believe you, but there are so many conflicting opinions it's hard to make something out of it.
I agree. It's an incredibly big contest with lots of press and the pressure on these artists going into Eurovision is high. Most of them are just famous in their own countries and it's the first time dealing with big audiences. They should make an effort to help artists manage this. By making sure their space is respected.
@@jozefien.n If it was the first time she had filmed him, then and there, it would be different, but it was the third(?) time she did it after he told her twice(?) he didn't want that... What I understand from the Dutch media, is that she filmed him, the first time, last week during rehearsals, right after coming off of the stage, just after the emotional part(for him at least (the death of his parents) of his performance, he didn't want to be filmed right after that, and she did it again after he told her not to do that, and then after the third time he pushed her phone away... So basically you could take out a country's artist(s) by making a complaint, true or falls, doesn't matter... So yeah, it's a real shame for one of the favorites to go out like this...

This is not about a camara woman, it's about deflection of the attention the Palestinian protesters were getting. Not only Joost is unlawfully punished here. The whole crew, the dutch broadcaster, and fans are punished withhout an explanation or proof. This is how they are do things in Sweden. Everyone there is acting like it is completely normal. What about mediation or just a warning?
Actually, they offered EBU several options. One option was that Joost would apologise publicly for his 'threatening move'. But it was not an option. And that, while AvroTros organized the Eurovision two years ago during the difficult Covid era. That while AT is a major financial contributor to Eurovision. It's insane.

Dutch here: What happened has come out. Joost had made an agreement that directly after his performance he was not to be put on video. To give him a bit of a pause / breathing room this because he goes through a lot of emotion. Later he attends camera / video. There was a woman who had been bothering him from before with a camera. That day she was bothering him once again. He repeatedly ask her to stop filming her. Then when she did not, he went to the camera and much like some police do put his hand to the camera. I believe he tried to lower the camera. This is the story, this is what officially transpired. It is ridicules the situation.

This is a serious matter, as someone is representing a nation. So you do not speak lightly on such matters. That is all I have to say about it.
EBU made a big mistake by disqualifying the Netherlands. Big. HUGE. Joost didn't do anything wrong, it is quite the opposite; The camera woman was harassing Joost. Joost did NOT touch her. The camera woman kept filming him, even while this is in breech of EBU's contract with the artist not to film backstage. Joost asked her twice to stop filming and she kept filming him, so he made a gesture to the camera not even to the camera woman! EBU disqualifying Joost is like victim blaming and so not right. I hope justice will be served and there will be pressed charges against the EBU and their camera woman. Joost, you are in our hearts and everyone knows you were the public's choice. No one can take that away from you, Joost! Eurovision should apologize to Joost and also publicly for what they have so unrightfully done to Joost. Disqualifying him is not right, just not right...
If Joost Klein is found not guilty of doing anything to her. This 1 woman has done some unimaginable emotional damage to Joost Klein. Joost has said multiple times that partaking in Eurovision would feel like closure for the death of his parents. He also ends his song on this heartfelt message. So she's done great emotional damage, which can easily be proven. That together with the fact that AVROTROS, the dutch broadcasting network, suffered a staggering loss in viewers. Plus she single handedly hurt the pride and ruined the night of a nation. I say this woman has a colossal defamation lawsuit coming her way.
Kicked out because of a Zero Tolerance policy, while they (ebu) should have created a safe environment for the artist, and protect him from the harassment of the camerawoman (with mobille phone?). Complete and utter incompetence but wouldn't be surprised if the whole thing has been planned just to neutralize the artist because of being critical to the organisation. The EBU has in fact disqualified itself during this festival. "United by music" ? Not.
If EBU really had a zero tolerance policy, there wouldn't have been a camerawoman backstage. EBU broke their part of the agreement leading up to this issue.
A key aspect was, that the area where she filmed was a "no filming" area. The Dutch said that in theire statement, she filmed in an area where filming was not allowed and Joost did not want to get filmed which she ignored. The EBU handled this very poorly.

no, it isn't. Eurovision did the right thing and acted promptly and professionally. now we can know that Eurovision performers won't make any threats or have any kind of abusive attitude anymore, without risking to be disqualified. Joost had no right to display such behavior and to threaten anyone, no matter how annoyed he might have been by their presence. an Eurovision contester can't do that and expect no consequences. he only had the right to make legal complains for whatever he thought was any breach of contract, and deal with the problem in a professional and civilized way, but, instead, he chose to do it his way... and that wasn't the only line he crossed, but he also cross it with the Eden from Israel, at the press conference, when he jumped on her verbally, without being his business, and tried to provoke and to compel her to answer to a provocative and political question.
I find it great to see people from other countries who agree with this decision. I agree with what Eurovision did and I know a lot of people who think the same.

Both the EBU and that woman should be sued. Nowadays everyone is so quickly triggered and disqualifying a country because of an incident like that is ridiculous.
This camera person was repeatedly asked not to film and kept doing it against the agreements made. She was harrassing Joost with her camera and violated his private space by doing so. Now, he may have reacted unwisely at some point but I feel that a safe working environment is created together. On top of that, even if he did react in an unprofessional way, a reprimand would've been enough, but the EBU decided to cancel him out of fear of repercussions for themselves. And now their decision means that there is a new road created to influence the contest in an unprecedented way, because apparently you can get someone cancelled by filing a complaint and the EBU overreacting. ' Just think of making a mistake at work and your boss just firing you over it, before the investigation is completed to find out whether or not you crossed any legal boundaries.
I think the crew member should be fired or at least have some consequences for disrespect to an artist, insubordination, and unprofessionalism, because she was asked to stop filming and didn't, and on top of that she also filmed him when she was told not to WAIT THIS BLEW UP WHAT-
Bassiclly, she got a national contestant (3rd in audience presence) instantly disqualified over a 'threatening' move towards her rolling camera. This. Even after an agreement with EBU was made specifically not to film Joost right after the performance since it had quitte an emotional ending bit. And still. This happend. And they never took it to trial or court still!! If i were Joost i'd sue the EBU for a massive sum. He's & Netherlands as a whole has been SO wronged by this its insane. But oh well... Europapa jajaja "divided by media."
I wonder if this is not a case of sexism. They immediately sided with her just because she's a woman complaining against a man. I am not even a Joost or "Europapa" fan, but I agree with the disqualification being disproportionate and utterly unfair.
Sweden seems to be very touchy when it comes to intimidation and aggression towards women. I've read they started a national action plan for this in 2022. Of course this is speculation on my part.
Agreed, joost was devastated by the disqualification. He was willing to apologise in front of a camera, even if he did nothing wrong. But now that the cat is out of the bag and he was unjustly accusrd and punished, the camera woman was never asked to apologise to him. She took wverything away from him, trampled on his lifelong dream and added to his trauma.
It totally is sexism. Like ten minutes ago women really struggled in society but now we just have to say a man looked at us weird and he's effed. I hate it.
Apolitical or non-political events or organisations are always pro status quo/conservative and, similarly, promoting the mainstream attitudes or opinions. You are unable not to communicate.
The incident unfolded at a highly emotional time for Joost. At the end of his performance, he saluted his father, a gesture that moved him to tears. Understanding the sensitivity of the moment, Joost had previously requested not to be filmed as he left the stage. However, after his semi-finals performance, a camerawoman continued to film him despite his repeated requests to stop. Overwhelmed and seeking privacy, Joost made a gesture towards the camera to insist she cease filming, although he made no physical contact with her. The camerawoman, perhaps feeling personally affronted, chose to file a complaint. The decision by the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) to withhold footage of Joost's alleged "threatening movement" has only fueled further speculation and confusion. Releasing this footage could have clarified the situation, potentially exonerating the artist and demonstrating that the decision to disqualify him was unrelated to this incident. Instead, it appears the disqualification may be tied more closely to Joost's controversial remark about Israels participation in the song contest. During a press conference, a Polish journalist asked the Israeli contestant, Golan, whether she thought her participation might pose a security risk to others, given Israel's ongoing military actions in Gaza, referencing the pro-Palestinian rallies in Malmo during the Eurovision Song Contest. Swedish presenter Jovan Radomir quickly intervened, informing Golan that she doesn't have to answer this question. It was at this moment that Joost Klein, interjected with a simple "Why not?", that challenged the avoidance of this delicate subject. This indicated his support for transparency and dialogue on difficult topics. His disqualification followed shortly after this interaction, not immediately after the alleged threatening gesture made days earlier toward a crew member. Additionally, if a formal complaint has been filed with Swedish police, the EBU should have allowed the legal process to conclude before taking action. Presuming innocence until proven guilty is a fundamental principle that should have guided their actions.

In order to participate in the contest, a country has to be an active member of the European Broadcasting Union, which organizes Eurovision, so eligibility is not solely dependent on geography. They should change the name to Political Broadcasting Union because it's not about the music.
It's not called "Eurovision Song contest" for nothing. This is a European (EBU) event, so why on earth are countries that are outside of Europe (like Australia and Israel) allowed to participate? Australia was invited to participate in the song festival's 60th aniversary in 2015, but somehow they kept coming each year from then on.
Everyone that joins the European Broadcasting union can participate, and this has been the guideline for decades. Countries like Morocco and Turkey also competed in the past. There are other north African countries that are part of EBU that can participate, if they wanted to. Australia is actually the exception because they are not even part of the EBU.
Oh believe the ebu just took the opportunity because they already wanted him out cause of what had been happening with a certain country. That same country's team had been harassing other artists including female artists and the ebu did nothing...in this case it wasn't the sexism

It, again, shows that the EBU is a controversial body by itself. It was agreed upon that there would be no filming of mr. Klein after the song. The woman in question however did film and after having told here several times not to, mr. Klein reacted. That's called human behavior. Lets just stop with this horror called ESC. Once a nice institute where countries, in their own language, sang a nice song. Often with music typical for their country. Now it's a commercial hodgepodge.

What really happened is still quite vague. But this punishment is far too severe given the "facts". The Netherlands must withdraw from this circus as a protest.
What I find very confusing is how all parties involved haven’t exactly given real evidence for their claims. A police investigation sounds really serious but a „threatening move towards“ someone wouldn’t really justify that? And everyone posting about it tells the story a bit differently, adding information (where it happened, background or other rumors about his behavior). Personally if he did something wrong disqualification would be the right move but we don’t know that yet. So maybe they could have allowed him to compete and in the case of being guilty disqualified him later.
Fact of the matter remains that there was an agreement not to film him and that she had been told multiple times not to bother him. He was only protecting his personal space which was agreed upon. You don't go blaming rape victims for being raped do you? She is the one in violation, whatever you make of it and the EBU cannot wipe themselves clean from this as they are in violation also. You managed to protect the Israeli team from all negative questions, yet why did you allow such a question to be asked to Joost, and then disqualify him for his reaction? Why don't you even publish the footage? Is this double standard because the Netherlands is not the main sponsor of Eurovision? You were so unjust that you even feared announcing the Netherlands' elimination during the show. The Netherlands should definitely file a lawsuit for compensation
The Israeli singer was asked (well, it was more of a statement) if she feels guilty for endangering everyone else with her presence. I would say that's a pretty negative question. And she answered the question, you can find it online. The Greek singer was also exaggeratedly yawning and pretending to fall asleep when the Israeli singer answered questions. The Irish singer was also very hostile towards the Israeli girl. And not to talk about the insane disrespect the Israeli received, repeatedly, when performing. You are really blind if you don't see how the EBU failed to handle the nasty treatment she got. If they decided Israel can compete, they should have made sure the environment was safe and respectful to the artist.

@janeslater8004 Yes, you are correct. I don't think I made the point clear enough. DW made it sound as if she said, "You don't have to answer the question if you do not want too" Rather, that was the KAN representative next to her that made that statement. The Netherlands singer rudely interjected, "Why not?" The KAN representative then said "you can answer if you want to" and Eden, with grace, answered the question.

What should have happened if everyone here was a well adjusted adult:
- If the EBU ordered the camerawoman to do what she did Joost should apologize to the women for being aggressive and the EBU should apologize for breaking Joosts boundaries and putting the camera women in a bad spot.
- If the camera women acted on her own she should apologize to Joost for breaking his boundaries and Joost may feel it is right to apologize back for being overly aggressive, if he wants to. The EBU should apologize to Joost for not keeping staff in check and the camera women needs a talking to, or moved to another position.
What happened:
The EBU heared that Joost was being agressive towards a camerawomen, and somewhere on a document is says that any artist being aggressive towards staff gets disqualified. Now Joost got disqualified for defending his boundries, which were broken due to the EBUs mistake or lack of control over their own staff. What was the whole day long hearing and the police getting involved for if they weren't gonna handle it like adults?

A safe work environment goes for everybody and she was in violation. The EBU is in the wrong in any way you look at this. They are protecting a criminal. Joost is just a lam for slaughter.
What really is going on is that they needed deflection from the Palestinian protests ,which were broadcast all over the world and hurting their main sponsor: Moroccan Oil, which is not Moroccan at all, but Israeli.

Bye bye 😂👋
He had every right to defend his personal space, we give Ukraine even weapons to defend their own personal space. So this is a non issue.
But in reality this is about deflecting from the attention the Palestinian protests were getting all over the world, which was hurting the main sponsor: Moroccan Oil, which is not Moroccan at all, but Israeli. The EBU is full of politics and the hunt for money. They are hypocrites and manipulators of the public.

@elastrorey5722 Nobody here is judging what Hamas did, it was horrendous and still they have prisoners. The issue here is the response from Israel. You said that their response was to also "attack" but what are they actually doing is to erase Palestine from the map. So, where is the line that determines what is legitimate to do and what not to do when somebody attack you?
@@elastrorey5722 The mass killing of tens of thousands of civilians in revenge for a Hamas attack is a reprehensible war crime. Gaza should also be excluded from Eurovision as long as Hamas rules there.
Imagine making fun of someone for being an orphan and expecting not to be punched or whatever happend
Basically what happened (from what I know): A cameraWOMAN was filming Mr. Klein without permission in a NO FILMING zone and HE allegedly stomped HIS foot towards HER after telling HER to stop TWICE, not on HER.
