Yes, Turkey is the winner but Turkey paid the price for it. It didn't happen overnight country has done more to the Syrian people than Turkey. Saving the lives of 4 ml Syrians from certain death by the regime and has been taken care of them for the last 14 years costing the Turkish taxpayers over 40 bn $ yet you don't hear that in the Western media.

Turkiye did not win. It did not loose yet, but there is more than enough reason to fear that international bringers of democracy and human rights (USA, EU, Israel) will come after Turkiye after Iran now so they may reshape Anatolia in theşr image. (For the good of Kurdish poeple and democracy and rainbows, of course. 🎉 (Did anyone thing this is about geopolitical and military interests rather than ethnicity and culture clash??. 😮))

The biggest winners here are likely the Syrian people, as they have regained control of parts of their country. Choosing Turkey as an ally makes sense because Turkey has been very clear about its goals in the region. Turkey wants to stop Kurdish groups from creating a stronghold near its border, seeing it as a threat to its security. This partnership could bring some stability, but it also raises questions about what it means for Kurdish people and the region as a whole.

I want to know what the effects of this massive withdrawal of drug supply is going to be on the whole region. We've only seen the bags that have been found. There are 10's of millions of people who depend on the drug to be i.e. taxi drivers, security guards, night workers, nurses & doctors.. They work in the region under harsh conditions and (yes I was there) this drug enables them to do their jobs.. and its not the rich, it's a lot of the people who provide the basic services .. will be hit .. unless there is any kind of support (which I can't imagine happening) .. repercussions of that mass withdrawal will be significant.

    • @adbayliss

Which makes it obvious, really, Putin is not going to let that billion dollar export industry that was in Syria go to waste. Russia has the manufacturing and export capacity. It would be better if that wasn't the case, but I feel for the millions working in the middle east who are (pretty much) reliant on this drug to be able to work the hours and labour expected of them there.

Here is a little history when the Ottoman Turkish Empire collapsed the Turks, and Saudi abandon most what we now call Syria. This how a small minority of Alowites took over the country. So I hate to say it only Damascus does ok most the country is very poor. So you are not going to see Turkiye or other countries want to rush in and take more land. Israel is only that trying create a buffer zone however pushing that deep in Syria means a lot of forces that they have pull from Lebanon.

But to maintain an industrial lifestyle you need resources like good land, industrial fertilizers which means access to Pot Ash mines, coal, and iron mines to make steel. And believe or not reliable "rain" or a massive freshwater river. Most countries don't have any of it, which make a hot bed for rebellion and insurrection.

    • @Madame702

@@Djamonja World War I and World War II where brutal wars they where as much about getting resource for your Empire because "coal" in one part of Europe, the Iron in another, and oil was in North Africa. This before America created "Globalization" and forced the world powers to play nice and trade with one another. But if you lived in a French colony before World War I, and the French did not have access to coal or oil you could not trade with the British because they where rivals.. American created "Bretton Wood Accords" as World War II was ending, it forced the major countries of the world to be nice trade with one another. America would use it's navy the only one to survive the war to act as Imperial navy for you, to go out and get iron, fertilizers, and coal so that you could industrialize. In exchange America asked that you side with it against Stalin and the old Soviet Union. But the Soviet Union collapsed thirty years ago the agreement is null and void American people want to pull back from world and so "Globalization" is disintegrating and countries like Syria, Russia, and China are falling apart. You don't realize how much you world needs American Globalization.

It appears that the Turkish population may not fully grasp the consequences. President Erdoğan and his party, the AKP, could lead Turkey toward a disastrous future if the country continues to pursue land grabs in Kurdish territories. The resulting sanctions could be so severe that Turkey might plunge into extreme poverty, similar to what has happened in Iraq and Syria.
