That ad was pure genius. Back when most people had never used a computer, it took just a minute to say: these things can run games, teach your kids, help you run your business, let you communicate with the world. Compare that to IBM's ads for OS/2, which were boring, confusing, or cringy.
Your parents were still running MS-DOS in 1995, when any luser in the rest of the world had been using GUIs (including the Windows versions preceding 95) for over a decade?
It would work promoting anything computer related for consumers. Ethnically Diverse actors inexplicably solving everyday problems and consuming entertainment thanks to New Product™.
I used to watch this commercial all the time when I was studying IT in college back in 2012. I told myself that when I finally made it in the computer realm, I would play this song.
It's Windows 95! It's soaking up my drive! It's looking really fine! But my PC is obsolete -- I'll have to get myself a brand new machine!.... ring it up.
"The horror... The horror..." By Windows 7, it at least had become usable and caught up with AmigaOS. :P Partly because at the time of Windows 7, hardware had begun catching up with the abominable bloat that is Windows.
@@rodrigogirao8344 Well, hope we find out the truth at some point, but The stores are very picky and protective or their catalog, so who knows. They do not license often.
Oh yeah, back when the prospect of sitting down to use your computer made you feel this way. Now it's just the usual slimmed-down desktop, barely more than a browser, can't even play CDs. No serial port, nothin. Can't even plug in an Ethernet cable, let along a frekin modem. What a bummer. I mean, look at all they could do with dial-up in '95. Now you need a freakin 50 Gigs a month or something ridiculous.

You do have a point, but to me those ads were directed towards business-minded people.
this ad is so old that it looks modern again
this
real
29 years ago and still starting up.
Got played on tv non stop in late 95
Yep. A lot of people got played by MIcrosoft over the years.
“You make a grown man cry” lmao
The Windows experience.
Vista
It was so magical to own a computer back then, everything it did seem so fantastic.
My parents often cite this as the only commercial that succeeded in selling them something, because of how big of a step-up it was from DOS.
Your parents were still running MS-DOS in 1995, when any luser in the rest of the world had been using GUIs (including the Windows versions preceding 95) for over a decade?
I've had this commercial stuck in my head for almost 30 years
My favorite part of the ad is when the girl turns around with the "woo"!
my favorite part is the hotty in the back of the limo. I would like to make her face pregnant
The most 90s thing EVER!!! The box monitors, the upbeat music, 80s and 90s car designs, and the old WTC.
Great quality! Thank you.
I consider one of the best ads all time
this ad would work even if it promoted windows 11
It would work promoting anything computer related for consumers. Ethnically Diverse actors inexplicably solving everyday problems and consuming entertainment thanks to New Product™.
00:54 The Twin Towers
they even blacked out, lol
I used to watch this commercial all the time when I was studying IT in college back in 2012. I told myself that when I finally made it in the computer realm, I would play this song.
And did you? :)
@ I’d like to say I’ve accomplished my IT goals thus far!
Awesome ad, pretty classy.
I could watch this ad forever I love this ad.
Ahhhh simpler times.
I always think of this commercial - to this day when I hear this song. Sorta sad, isn’t it? This song deserves a better spot in my head.
0:54 World Trade Center. 😢
It's Windows 95! It's soaking up my drive! It's looking really fine! But my PC is obsolete -- I'll have to get myself a brand new machine!.... ring it up.
men i just went to the store and they sold out of windows 95, what a hot release
This thing changed the world.
Indeed man. This was my first OS. :)
look how far computing has come
Good times. My first pc Packard bell pentium 60 MHz playing 3D dinosaur.
I love it! It's aged really well.
I miss Win95
"The horror... The horror..."

I remember these ads. It was big news at the time that Microsoft spent like $7 million or something for the rights to this song.
IT never needed to go any further than this.
Still one of the most recognizable riffs in Rock History!!
Good old days
Rolling Stones would later sell their song She's A Rainbow for Apples iMac computer commercials. Apparently they don't use computers.
that song hits me in the feels yo
i was born in 2007 but i miss the 90s
That's not possible my friend
"It's...beautiful."
i must admit this was really good, maybe the best product launch m$ has ever done... perfect
1 Billion blue screens of death
WOW!!!! This ad reminds me of the 94 world cup. This commercial might as well be a Delorean with a flux capacitor.
At 0:06 the purple guy is from a game called 3d movie maker for Microsoft I just found out today very fun game.
Don't Get Me Started
Why did they not just redo this for Copilot? This is making me want to buy windows 95
Wow, where did you find the original video file with such amazing quality? Lovely ad :P
+Agustín Jerez
It was part of CNET anniversary video. I just cropped this out of it.
The Internet is now a better place. Thanks for sharing! :)
+Kyntteri heh I thought so cnet is like the only one with an actually high quality version of this ad
+Redey1290
Noticed the same. Well obviously at this point anyway :)
Good times, first gui
コンピュータがまだワクワクのカタマリだった頃の名作CM✨
The start of it all.......the internet
Jagger approved of this campaign for $12 Million!
And that was a joke response. He wasn’t interested in licensing the song.
@@b3ans4eva Well, it got licensed and if they did not pay that, then how much if you know?
That seems to be just an urban legend. Microsoft's former vice president Bob Herbold said it was just $ 3M.
@@rodrigogirao8344 Well, hope we find out the truth at some point, but The stores are very picky and protective or their catalog, so who knows. They do not license often.
Pocket change for Microsoft; and one heck of alot less than it cost Bill to off load Melinda.
What’s funny is that Apple promoted stuff like this 6 or 7 years before this ad. They just did it with Sorkin-style drama.
From Win95 to Win11.
The golden age of computing. When people would use their computer for more than just TH-cam
Long live America!
Start playing: *shows descent playing at 10fps max*
Brilliant commercial of a flawed operating system. If only Windows 95 was half as good as it.
I have a Compaq Presario that runs Windows 95.
Windows 95 launched 30 years ago today.
1994?
@@-nobody.-. Yep.

Where are the "you make a grown man cry" lyrics???? 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

My grown man cried. He just wanted to keep using his Smith-Corona typewriter.
