  • This weeks video is another versus challenge two similar whiskies from Islay, a couple of peat monsters if you will. They go head to head to see what my favorite is of the day.
    In the video I also talk a little about the OSWAS which is the Online Scotch Whisky awards. www.oswa.co.uk/ make sure you head over and cast your votes.

    Appreciate the shout out for the OSWAs buddy. Open until the 16th, 5th November for ceremony! 🙌

    Interesting comparison, Kevin.
    Despite I love the Port Charlotte, the Laphroaig for me has an advantage, the 'award' for introducing me into the worls of peated whisky.
    Thanks for sharing.

    Another great review. The Laphroaig is approx £65 here in Canada. You got a great deal!

    Isn't the barley for Port Charlotte peated by Bairds near Inverness? With Laphroaig peating about 20% themselves and getting the rest from Port Ellen Maltings, I would think that accounts for a lot of the differences... (As a Friend of Laphroaig, I'm glad the Quarter Cask won today!)

    I loved that review. Those are two great islays. I lean toward the quarter cask too. But they are both reasonably priced and great expressions.

      For crissakes I've had the PC and I'm going to return it for QC! You must be kidding me?

    Love these comparisons Kevin. I have always been turned away by the iodine/band aid character of some whiskies so this reaffirms me staying away from Laphroaig. Peated whiskies are still a bit hit/miss with me as the Laga DE and 16yr bottles I have are ok but not reached for that often by me TBH. That being said, there are some I really do like so appreciate getting your feedback!

    I think the reason Bruichladdich's peated whiskies always seem less peated than similar PPM whiskies is due to how tall the stills are in comparison. It means it's less punchy but it also ends up having more complex peat notes.

      Also BL use Highland peat, not Islay peat. It's quite different although not as different to Orkney peat v Islay peat.

    Love my Quarter Cask but Port Charlotte 10 wins no contest.

    I'd probably take the Port Charlotte these days. I do remember though when Amazon sometimes used to have the QC on sale for about £24, which was probably the best value in whisky at the time.

    I too like the quarter cask a bit more and it’s slightly cheaper @ $90 cdn . Yes ridiculous prices in British Columbia. Thanks for the comparison.
    But what I really want to see is that SIM go up against the new G430. I think it’s days are number. Cheers 😄

      I think I could throw the ball further than my drives at the moment… 5 weeks off from hitting the ball… todays range session was good but I think one of my friends has the Ping, so I’ll get back to you on that (I’m a bit of a Taylormade fan boy too)
      BC is a beautiful part of the world I have family in Kelowna and been over once in 06. Thanks for the comments and Slainte buddy

    Great comparison Kevin. Do any of you guys know if that QC is virgin oak or from a different wine/spirit origin?

    • @Letstalkwhisky
      @Letstalkwhisky  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I think the QC is also a bourbon cask as well. It’s double maturation started in bourbon casks and then I believe transferred to the bourbon QC. A really cool distillery and a cracking dram.

    Nice comparison. I’ve still to open my PC10. And how was the Rosebank 31 ?

    • @Letstalkwhisky
      @Letstalkwhisky  ปีที่แล้ว

      Honestly… the rosebank was ok, it wasn’t jaw dropping but it was good, it’s tasted older and had soft pear bites to it and nice oak flavors. It’s a triple distilled whisky too and I’ve never tried much in the triple distilled category to really place it in a league, but it was good just not amazing and wanting me to spend nearly 2K on it.

      Some days I’d pick Laphroaig others I’d pick PC. Both great drams but feel of late I need to be in a certain mood for either or. Both brilliant in their own ways
