Cu Bocan 15yo review a highland whisky. Lightly peated and from the famous Tomatin distillery. Let's get this one opened and in the glass, as always let’s talk whisky #whisky #cubocan #tomatin #dram
Cu bocan signature
มุมมอง 133หลายเดือนก่อน
Cu bocan signature, stems from the Tomatin distillery in the highlands, a lightly Peated expression that is produced for two weeks of the year. Can this single malt hold up to other peated whiskies? Only one way to find out. Stay tuned to hear my thoughts on this one, and as always. Let’s talk whisky #cubocan #whisky #scotch
Lagg Corriecravie edition review
มุมมอง 295หลายเดือนก่อน
Lagg Corriecravie edition, this Peated malt is from the isle of Arran. South side of the island. Using only Peated malt at around 50ppm. Can this sherry bomb pack a punch for a new distillery, let’s get this one opened and see what the first thoughts are, as always let’s talk whisky
Lochlea Cask Strength (Batch 2)
มุมมอง 218หลายเดือนก่อน
The latest from the lowland distillery lochlea, the batch two cask strength and it’s a sherry bomb as you can see… but does it sip like a sherry bomb or does it have some tricks up its sleeve. Only one way to find out, stay tuned and as always, let’s talk whisky
Balblair 12yo (re review)
มุมมอง 133หลายเดือนก่อน
A wee re review this week, a bottle I’ve had for a couple of years. And with it coming to the end of the summer I thought let’s get this Balblair 12 in the glass, and see if anything has changed. So stay tuned and hope you enjoy. And as always let’s talk whisky #distillery #malt #singlemalt #dram #whisky #balblair #balblair12
Turntable Smokin Riff review
มุมมอง 1052 หลายเดือนก่อน
Turntable smokin riff, blended whisky. A new bottle on the shelf and one I tried a while ago go and thought I need to get my hands on this. Walk into Dunkeld Whisky Shop and lo and behold, a bottle sitting on the shelf. We’ve got it open we’ve got the break down of 72% malt and 28% grain. Let’s see what I make of this one. As always let’s talk whisky
Glenmorangie 12yo (travel retail)
มุมมอง 1862 หลายเดือนก่อน
A new video and a new whisky, gifted to me by the in laws on there recent visit. This is the travel retail exclusive 1l bottle known as the accord, aged in bourbon and sherry casks. I haven’t had much Glenmorangie in my time so this will be a nice step into the LVMH owned distillery, let’s get this one open and let’s talk whisky
Tomatin 17yo PX (sherry collection)
มุมมอง 1482 หลายเดือนก่อน
The last in the sherry collection series is the 17yo PX finish. Another 46%, non chill filtered and natural color. The oldest in the series and with the longest finishing period. Can this whisky stand out from the rest of the PX whiskies out there? Let’s find out and as always let’s talk whisky
Tomatin 15yo Palo Cortado finish
มุมมอง 1633 หลายเดือนก่อน
This weeks review continues on from the Tomatin distillery and is the Palo Cortado finish 15yo. A style of whisky which is pretty rare as the casks are, well let’s call it a happy accident. I went live with Scott Adamson last week and we talked through the new range (link is below to Scott’s fountain of knowledge and a breakdown of the Palo Cortado cask) I now give this a go on it’s on and prob...
Tomatin Manzanilla 10yo (Sherry Collection)
มุมมอง 1763 หลายเดือนก่อน
The new sherry release from Tomatin, this is the Manzanilla finish, a 46% non chill filtered and natural colors whisky. 3 different Spanish sherry finishes and this one I crack open and review for you lovely lot, I dont have much previous with Manzanilla so let’s give this a go. And as always, let’s talk whisky
Fettercairn 12yo review
มุมมอง 1703 หลายเดือนก่อน
A new bottle and new distillery visited. This week we open the Fettercairn 12yo a core range bottling matured in American white oak. Let’s see what this is all about and as always, let’s talk whisky
Thompson Bros 8yo Blended Malt
มุมมอง 4134 หลายเดือนก่อน
This weeks un corking is the Thompson Bros 8yo highland blended malt. With two distilleries only with a near 50/50 split. Non chill filtered and no added colour. A bit of a nightmare uploading this with camera cutting out, mic not working but I made it work in the end. Hope you all enjoy and stick around for the make up of this whisky and the price. Enough reading, let’s talk whisky

Thanks for reviewing Kevin. Have tried this expression a while ago. Great stuff if you like sherried whisky. For the record, Ian MacLoud also own Laggan Bay distillery on Islay. They've started with beer brewing this year and are planning to start distilling soon. Slàinte mhath
Nicely done Kevin, I fully agree. When it comes to sherried 15 year olds the Old Pulteney 15 has been hitting for me recently. It has that orange note as well.
Seems like they are carefully crafting their full sherry cask maturation whisky and using just the right type of casks to not overwhelm the spirit. I can see where this may have a hard time grabbing attention with some of the sherry cask finished flavor bombs out there (like Tomatin). Shame they don't price it at a more reasonable point where more might try it when they are looking for this type of whisky. Cheers!
Thanks for the review, Kevin. Regarding the orange and apricot notes, you get. Maybe there was some Amontillado casks involved in the batch? Amontillado can indeed have orange (peel) and apricot among its flavour notes. It's not the darkest sherried whisky, we have seen, so it would make sense if Amontillado casks have been involved to some degree as opposed to purely Oloroso and/or PX casks. I'm glad, I bought my bottle a few years ago before the prices took of, I totally agree that it's too expensive today, and I won't replace it, when my bottle is empty. Cheers! 🥃
Nice review. This one is still avilable here in Sweden. Just ordered one for the quite fair price of sek859 (£62) in todays currency. Really looking forward to crack it open with some friends. Cheers
Cheers Kevin, thanks for the review. Must get one of these. Been on my list for a while. Slainte.
Just to avoid viewer confusion....not all peated Islay whiskies use Islay peat, most do but not all. And some non-Islay peated whiskies do use Islay peat, eg Ledaig.
This was the best whisky I tasted at last year's Glasgow Whisky Festival. Beautiful stuff and extremely well put together.
Thanks for reviewing Kevin. Have tried several previous Cù Bòcan expressions. Decent stuff for those who enjoy sherried whiskies. Slàinte mhath
Surprised and encouraged to see you back filming buddy. What a great whisky to review on your return. Very cool story how they only produce during a certain period every year (almost like a Campbeltown distillery I have heard of?). Do you see them growing this production based on how it has been received/selling? At that PPM level and being Highland, it sounds like it would be in my zone. Cheers!
@@drewfromaz7740 it looks like this year the production has increases by a week or two. Previous years I don’t think cu bocan was produced for as many weeks. At festivals and tasting it seems to hit the spot with the whisky drinkers. Enjoying the softer peat and great use of casks. My favorite so far has been the creation 5 which is aged in columbian oak. Sure it’s the first distillery to ever use columbian oak too.
Cu Bocan 15 was always the best thing coming out of Tomatin to my mind
With the possible exception of the Tomatin PX
Hi Kevin hope your feeling better. Another great review I’ll have to put it on my Christmas list
Hi Kevin. Have heard this is a beauty. I see they have recently also released a 12 year Rum cask finish as well. Would love to see a 12 year release from just the bourbon casks it started in. Cheers
Yes it is. The 12yo Rum cask finish is also very good but the 15yo is the pick.
@@DonnerPassWhisky I agree it would be great to see an ex bourbon and maybe virgin oak finish as an age statement and keep it in the core range. The standard signature is great and I think about 5-7yo but a 12yo more bourbon forward maturation would be right up my street too.
Think your mic level needs to go up buddy.
Just ordered one today 10th November 2024, not many left !
Just picked up a bottle on spec. Watchedand enjoyed you review thank you. Looking forward to opening the Bottle tonight.
After trying all the other standard Springbank expressions up to the 18 year old, the 10 remains my favorite - it just seems to have the best balance of flavor characteristics. As a result Springbank 10 found a place in my liquor cabinet for nearly a decade. Unfortunately, I haven't seen any for sale anywhere for almost 3 years now. I've moved on.
Great review Kevin, thanks
Another good review. Just finished a bottle of this and agree with everything you say. Light on the peat, maybe not for peat heads but a good dram never the less. And the bottle is a cracking design. Cheers.
Thanks for reviewing Kevin. Have notvtried this Cu-Bocan. Have tried other expressions. Decent stuff. Slàinte mhath
Enjoyed hearing about this lighter peated offering Kev. At 20 ppm it sounds like it would be in my zone and those tasting notes are certainly ones I find to my liking. Thanks for introducing me to this peated version of Tomatin 🙏
Thanks for the review Kevin! Great job 👏🏼 Just saw this in the states at $105.00 after listening and watching sounds like i better get back to the store 😂
2024 version just showed up in Chicagoland! Can't wait to crack it opo it open
Thanks for the review and it was good to see you in the Bon too. Slainte.
Thanks for the review. I liked the turntable previous releases that I tried. Hard to find here in Europe but glad to hear you enjoy this one.
Great review Kevin! I’ve been debating picking this one up. I have the Kilmory which is decent but definitely a bit young.
Thanks for reviewing, Kevin. Interesting whisky albeit too sherried for me. Slàinte mhath
Thanks so much Kevin! Terrific review/thoughts! I will absolutely pick this scotch expression up after seeing your awesome video!! Amazing to watch!! Cheers!! 🙂
This one sounds very interesting. Thanks Kevin
Nice. Meikle Tòir when ? :D
This one is real bomb of cinnamon for me.
Thanks for reviewing Kevin. Have not tried this one. (and not a big chance I will as it is sherry matured, so leaving it for others to enjoy). Was great indeed to see you again in Bon Accord. Slàinte mhath
So surprising how they can tame down these younger, higher ABV releases like this. Interesting to hear about this one Kev and thanks again for that very thoughtful video 🥰
Nice review Kevin me and Graeme visited Lochlea last fall with Peter and Denise, Darren was promoted I think 🤔
Sounds great Kevin what’s the price?
I think it’s retailing at £65 somewhere around there, give or take a few pounds. I’ll keep you a sample 🥃
Nice wee review Kevin. Was good to see you briefly last Saturday. I hope the video for Drew turned out well.
Peter - that video what Kev put together with all my friends was so wonderful 🙏. Just the kind of medicine I needed 💙
Decent juice, but I know I’m a stuck record, but the old vintage packaging was the business, still got two in the stash, and they look great
Thanks, sounds like a nice easy sipping whisky.
What a wonderful coincidence! Great minds think alike, as they say. I have just this minute uploaded a whisky review of the Balblair 12 on my blog. I like your tasting notes on this. We are very much in agreement. Google Reb Mordechai Reviews. See there where I research into the term "Double Fired" and give my opinion on the departure of Vintage statements and the new branding.
Just purchased a bottle for a great price. Heartily looking forward to it
Hype is always stupid, in this case it has turned a good whisky into a relic, but hype is created by good old alcoholics who know how to talk well. In reality spending more than 40 euros for this bottle is for impressionable puppets. Poor world.
A good review a interesting blend
Sounds like another winner thanks Kevin
Thanks for reviewing Kevin. Have yet to try (and before that find) a Turntable expression.... but will leave any where wine casks are involved for others to enjoy. That being said, I hear good things about Turntable. Slàinte mhath
Luckily Springbank has got more readily available recently compared to what it was few years back. I think the hype diminished a little bit.
The price had doubled in the past 5 years or so by me. Not worth it at $100 (US).
Just to say thank you Kevin. My new find is Thompson Brothers Campervan, a blended malt. It is interesting.
