IELTS Speaking Test in Nepal - Nepali Student

- This is a MOCK TEST with one of our students Ms. Sristika Chalise conducted by Mr. Sagar Ghimire as a part of preparation for the IELTS Speaking Test. Being a Nepali student, Ms. Chalise has done well but there are many grounds where improvements can be made.
We will work on them with Ms. Chalise and upload another video in a week or two when she gets better. Here is a general overview of her speech in terms of IELTS Marking Criteria.
Lexical Resource - LR: Average(5.5-6.0)
Grammatical Range and Accuracy - GRA: Average(5.5-6.0)
Fluency and Coherence - F&C : Average(6.0 - 6.5)
Pronunciation - P: Good (6.0 - 7.0)

Its already mentioned that it's a mock test.
I would like to say that she memorised all these answers and for ielts you need not to memorise you should be natural as examiner can judge you perfectly and ge will ask more hard questions from you.

The fluency and the accent she possess and the way she replies to all the questions like she had already mugged up everything.. I do not think she deserves 6 !!
That's a great news for her but she was not prepared for the question. Six is justifiable for the effort she has put in.

Believe in yourself and try to be in the present moment. Also avoid thinking what the outcome would be.

Just kick it out what you have....
Forget? Why are you trying to learn the answers to the questions. You have to speak on the spot and not pour out something you memorized. Self belief is the key.

Her pronunciation is gud ...she can procure more than 6 if she removes hesitation and speaks confidently..........

No. Hesitation has nothing to do with the band score. But if someone uses a good vocabulary idioms and explanations in the speaking they will get a good score. This is what examiners say. But What makes her get that score is because she didn't speak well in part 2 she spoke just one minute

You must watch movies before you go for IELTS speaking test. And do not forget about past, present and future attention about movies, cinema hall etc....

My pleasure. You have to practice 4 Modules of IELTS, Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking. You need a lot of practice to get good band score in IELTS exam.

How in the world did she only get 6?? I dont get it. Yes I understand she had a lot of grammar errors and her pronunciation was a problem, but as far as conveying her messages and ideas, I think she did very well. I would definitely say that is either 6.5 or 7.
I gave my speaking test, got 6.5. But believe me, she will not even fetch 5. These examiners do not give grades that much easily. It has become even harder after new visa norm of 2 year extended visa. Good luck. Just listen to the question carefully and try to answer with loud enough voice so that you will be able to articulate clearly. My section 2 question was, describe an old public building which you have not visited yet, but will definitely love to visit once in future.. Practice how to answer accordingly?

She deserved band 6 cos she was willing to speak at a very reasonable length, though she has lost the coherence a little bit at times due to the repetition, self correction and hesitation however the good thing that she's generally prephrasing successfully. Well done.

Ielts is not just a piece of cake whereas it is not herculean task to crack, I got overall 7 bands in 15 days self study,, all you need is vocabulary that's it.....

Native British English students must pass this test too,even though it is our native language.
Our teachers are clever about it, they don't tell us about the test,they just come and sit with us and have a conversation. It is only afterwards they tell you it was an exam... Clever.
In mine, 5 of us were just sitting in the library talking when the teacher sat and joined the conversation.. 15 minutes later he said,well done you all passed the exam, see you later guys.

What? Giving her a better grade than deserved doesn’t motivate anyone! It actually frustrates a lot of people because it’s just not fair
In my opinion she deserved better score than that at least 7 bands even though her hesitation is too much and her eye contact is not that perfect. If you don't make proper eye contact with the examiner during the speaking test you will probably lose more marks on that.

Their are patterns for scoring 7 and higher in speaking.However, i scored 7.5 .It's all about your inner ability to speak not just memorizing answers.Just simple like native speakers.

Hy sir, i scored 6.5 in writing.I was expecting much higher but unfortunately,i got only 6.5.Henceforth,i knew that writing was a tought part in IELTS to score.Maybe i made mistakes in spellings and grammers.

is it necessary to give long answer of each questions??......i don't think so.... 🤔 without asking ,she is describing whole movie.. it's.like asking one question and describing whole chapter.. but in my view, her english speaking is damn good so ,i think that she should give effective answers of each question... sodna manxe lai ni aba k question chai sodam vanara sochnu parosk ani mark dena ni ali khushi lagos ,lo hai kt haru ni kaam xainan kta haru vanda vanara...i just wanna thank you sir, for sharing this video, it literally help other students who is preparing for ielts test.

when you are in interview session or in IELTS speking session at that time should maintain eye contact with interviewer. but this girl didn't maintain it properly.

A subtle observation : The examiner is forcing american accent in his voice but its IELTS.
in my evulation She is eligible for only 5.5 . her vocabulary is not enough strong to achieve 7

Why are the questions more about movies? What if you are not a movie person????
Questions may be in any topics. So students need to be prepared for any topics.
She declares her interests, and hobbies so he asked questions accordingly.
No it does not matter weather you are interested on the topic or not.
It depends on cue card bcz 3 part of speaking was fully related to 2 part of question.
IELTS tests your communication .. if a person is not able to answer some questions on a particular topic.. the examiner asks more questions on the topic which the person looks confident upon...

I think the opposite. She has a great vocabulary and critical thinking. She was so fast answering those questions.

ACCODING TO ME, IF YOU JUDGE GENUNELY, THIS STUDENT MUST GET BAND 7. SHE IS QUITE FLUENT AND AT LEAST PROPER GRAMMER WITH QUITE GOOD PRONUNCIATION.
