    Brock you're the man! Finally a true tuning "geek" that will exploit the possibilities lurking inside ("ECU"/BMS) in tuning electric motors! I've been waiting for someone seeing the potential in tuning electric vehicles (this has been done for electric bikes for a long time already).

  • @aarons7975
    @aarons7975 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    The regen braking takes a little bit to get used to, but once you do it's AWESOME. You can basically learn to come to a stop w/o using your brakes with it most the time, or only using them the last few feet just to keep the bike stable during it's final 2 or 3 mph to stop. With that being said, it is also very helpful coming into turns as well, in conjunction with or even instead of, the rear brake to help get the bike pointed the direction you need it to go. Once you spend a few weeks with the bike really learning how to really work it, you are going to fall in love with it, trust me on that.

    I have been restoring classic cars for over 30 years. Recently we have been converting Classics to electric. Some people think it’s cool, but there’s a lot of noise about how we are violating the laws of nature. It is really fun to drive an old Porsche with an electric powertrain. The car is so much faster. The torque is instant fun just like the bike. I have seven motorcycles, so I love the piston power but I’m very interested in getting an electric bike, anxious to see what you do with this. Must embrace the future. The adoption of electric vehicles is going to be much faster than a lot of people think, better to be prepared. Great video. Thanks for the content. Look forward to seeing what you do with the bike.

    Go Brock, nice one, bring things back to normality in an otherwise nutty world where people think they can say anything and do anything they want without consequences. Respect to you and yours for putting on your projects and letting us in on the information you come to understand. Also, E stuff is so quick, I am not surprised that you reviewed some. The cars are crazy fast, I was blown away, when I got back in my normal car I thought there was something wrong with it. Forget the charging and range issues, they probably matter (especially for bikes) but for going around the block a few times they are so, so, so exciting. I thought the lack of noise would make them less exciting to ride, definitely less exciting to watch going past on the race track, but to ride? ABSOLUTELY CRAZY. They may not be the future due to the charging stuff and lack of rare earths etc. but as a one off crazy tech advance, they are amazing. Thanks again, push those haters to the side mate.

      "Range anxiety" is a problem for sure and the more aggressively the bike is ridden, the quicker that anxiety goes up. But so far, the quick blasts we have been doing have not been a problem. Performance looks great but we need something other that lithium polymer, it’s expensive and heavy.
    bhp or kWh to kilograms is critical for motorcycles as you know, 260kg bike and of that 140 - 160kg for that 21.5 kWh battery.
    How do we get the weight down?

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      Battery technology will surely advance in the future. For now, we already have BST carbon fiber wheels for the bike in process and we will also look at typical weight saving options.

    • @aarons7975
      @aarons7975 ปีที่แล้ว

      Right now, we can only pray for lighter battery tech Id say, until we can come out with maybe some printed 3D frames or something with some polymer that is just as strong as steel, but lighter. Even the motor, you MUST have the copper AND steel by it's very nature, there is not much you can do there to lighten it. Given the extreme nature, the motor needs some fairly unique grade steel in it's laminations to help concentrate the mag fields, currently with our knowledge, there is not much we have to get around that.
      One thing that I have thought of that might work, but be an entire re engineering is, put the motor IN the hub of the wheel, that would also clear up some room for maybe a bigger battery or more preferrably lower it's center of gravity a bit so the bike is not so top heavy. Having the motor there will also get rid of the chain / drive assy and gearbox too.
      I have the Ribelle which is the EGO's not so little sister bike, and love it!

    I had a Livewire for a year. It was a fun bike to ride around locally, however the advertised range was about 1/4 the actual range when you were getting on the throttle. • @aarons7975
    @aarons7975 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I also want to add, that yes a full charge is going to give you the absolute best performance on your battery BUT, even with a lower charge the bike still hauls ass. I was on the way home and at 23 percent charge left and romped on it and it STILL took off like a scalded cat and hopped a little wheelie starting out at 70 mph hit a buck 20 ish just a few seconds later. Did not really notice any struggling or lack of power at all really TBH. Their power distribution graphing, for lack of what to properly call it, is really top notch.
    The bike WILL at 20 percent though go into a granny mode, to preserve the battery to get you home. You can still go fast but it'll accelerate at a much slower rate and be much less aggressive. Still though, highway speeds are absolutely doable, just not in 3 seconds anymore :)

      I was tentative on the first ride for sure. Once you feel that instant torque, you feel like shit could get bad in a hurry. My hats off to the Energica engineers for providing such a thrill, without scaring the rider to death. That said, we will be testing serious acceration very soon.

    • @aarons7975
      @aarons7975 ปีที่แล้ว

      you can adjust some of the controls and riding modes to be a bit tamer on the bike, but to answer your question YES, if you go WOT it will want to take off like a scalded cat and buck you off like a pissed off bronco !! If you are going to be slamming that throttle you need to hold on TIGHT.
      See thats the thing, in a car like a tesla, when you go wot, it shoves you into a nice comfy seat so you are ...secure.
      on this thing, when you go wot it wants to take off and leave you hanging in the air like Wile E Coyote on one of his Acme Rocket Engines that just took off and left him swimming in the dust cloud.

    Hello brock
    Max effort stock motor bikes usually run a shorter first gear like chris moore's gsxr1000 and ricky gadsons zx10 stock motor bikes
    Is that possible to do on something like your swb s1000rr or is a shorter first gear overkill for swb even after all the mods and stability off the line that it has?😮

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The bikes you mention have very tall 1st gears and long swingarms, so shortening the ratio works well. Since our bike is stock wheelbase, we need the taller gearing to help keep it on the ground.

Besides ceramic bearings and weight reduction stuff, it'll be great to see who engineers aerodynamics and what other things they tried to engineer into it.
    I guess being the first to engineer stuff on the models that will sell would probably be key.

    Most MotoGP bikes have v4 engines for uneven firing order and those that have inline 4 use firing order of a half v8 engine. All riders prefer delivered torque that is smoother on the wheel. In these little gaps between sparks when accelerating wheel has a time to gain traction. Better throttle control and better drive of a corner. Electric bike should be even worth than that even firing inline 4. Just constant power on the rear wheel.

    Hi 👋
    I have a question for you ✌🏍
    Do you try to use a emf tester ( electro magnetic field) ?
    Because the battery 🔋 on electric car literally give huge radiations to the people driving 🚗 it. All the way long.
    Plus do you know how the bus or electric car burn Because of the battery?
    I garantie you, 4 seconds and nothing left ...
    Imagine to stop you and get down the vehicle before it burns you at legal speed 😳, it's impossible !
    That's why, I will not ride this " technology " even if it's fantastic.
    I like your work and enjoy your video 📹 😉.
    Have a nice day 🌞

    • @BrockDavidson
      @BrockDavidson  ปีที่แล้ว

      @Loïc BACQ - thank you for your honest input. I do have a radiation detector, and I will test under various operating conditions for a future episode.
      Yes, I have seen the images of EV's burning and it certainly is a scary sight to see...That said, hard to control fires are a reality with ICE applications also. As a nitrous oxide fan, fire and even violent explosions are a reality that must be considered at all times. Here are a couple of my personal issues from a small (seemingly harmless) 750cc race bike.... This is with fuel injection and nitrous: th-cam.com/video/O3oL8eCzz1s/w-d-xo.html and this is with carbs and nitrous: th-cam.com/video/lQBWONx38ms/w-d-xo.html I wanted to "not ride this technology" either!! But instead, I focused more on safety and won the AMA Prostar #1 in the superbike class in 2000 against a field of far better funded teams.

    I went on a ride with one of my buddies who has a gixxer. he was kind of smug, well... opened his eyes up real fast.
    If you get one of these opened up, like their full racing bikes, it's just sick. TBH one of my biggest problems is keeping it on the ground, even being a pretty damned heavy bike, at almost 600 lbs, it's got so much torque that it'll want to pop up on you really fast if you are going to thump that throttle. Even doing 70 mph on the highway if you crank it, it'll want to wheelie if you thump it. Yes they ARE that powerful.
    People Please STOP listening to the bullshit going back and forth about Electric .vs. ICE. Most those comments are from green tards or ICEholes, who are just there to spew their uninformed hate. All the crap you hear about how BAD electric is, back up 100 years or so in history and it was the exact same BULLSHIT that was said about those HORRIBLE ICE engines .vs. the loveable reliable, dependable horse and buggy.
    Try to keep an open mind and realize that the tech is still evolving, it's new, but IS plenty viable and will only get better. Look how tempermental your cars were back in the 70's vs today, which about a guaranteed one turn start. Just as an example

    • @aarons7975
      @aarons7975 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@michaelfrock2473 The biggest problem which almost nobody is admitting is, our electric grid just can NOT handle a mass influx of electric cars charging. Especially places where they have a lot of electric heat, like the southern states, you get a cold night, and then want to throw 500 MWatt of cars charging, you are going to be in for a bad night.
      California is another prime example. They can't keep the lights let alone the air conditioning running as it is now, and want to add gigs of car charging load? How you going to do that? Where is the power going to come from?

    • @michaelfrock2473
      @michaelfrock2473 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@aarons7975 You are absolutely correct. I believe most people never think how electricity is made or have dealt with what happens in the summer when everyone is using the grid. At least we are off to a good start, I just hope the infrastructure can get ahead or at least keep up with future demand. Also I don't think most people also realize how long they need to keep their electric vehicle to offset the environmental cost of mining lithium.

    • @aarons7975
      @aarons7975 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@michaelfrock2473 The grid problem is a bit more complex than just hanging a few extra wires. Think older subdivisions and neighborhoods. They were planned, DESIGNED, with xx electric load in mind. Now you are going to roughly double that. Transformers have to be replaced, going to up the voltage any decent amount? well now you have to change out all the insulators, and step downs etc etc.
      Solar on houses works, because that real estate is already spoken for, your roof is essentially dead acreage, put it to use. otherwise just throwing miles of panels up on the landscape is a really bad idea. Most cities literally do not have enough square miles to put solar to power them even if they covered it 100 percent.
