Over here in Whittier, California we have Arturo's Puffy Taco and that place was featured in Food Network... their puffy tacos are the best if you have your taco shells puffed up. Try some puffy tacos
I go for a gyro over a falafel most of the time. Try the falafel sandwich next time. Also, they’re really famous for their banana shake. It’s a winning combo! My six year old can’t get enough of the shake.

I recommend on Santa Teresa Blvd the Hawaiian BBQ place. The sign says Daily Donuts and Hawaiian BBQ haha. You know how San Jose is. 😂 It’s amazing though. The Hawaiian BBQ chicken is amazing. It’s in the Plaza De Santa Teresa. 💖 The large plate is $12 something and the regular is $9 something. Definitely recommend going.

I've tried most of these places, they're all good, I think my fav is Egghead (I love the Eggy or Egghead salad). I also love bun beo, but it's best eaten with chicharrons and slices of fresh jalapenos (and the fish sauce of course)😋 - yummers!

Unfortunately after what feels like a lifetime of serving up banh mi, that location of Huong Lan has closed as of July 1 2024. The nearest place now would be Dakao sandwiches down the street next to R&B Nitro Tea.
The trick to eating banh mi without hurting the roof of your mouth is to eat the sandwich upside down. The crispy sharp top side towards your tongue, and the softer bottom towards the roof of your mouth

If you happen to do either AYCE, buffet or cheap eats *for the amount if food(, can I suggest : 1) Milpitas Buffet (few doors from ATBP filipino BBQ), Milpitas 2) World Gourmet/Newark Buffet, Newark 3) Tomi Japanese Buffet, Eastridge Mall, San Jose 4) Gen Korean BBQ, Mountain View and Fremont 5) SeaPot Hot pot and bar (revolving), Sunnyvale
Not sure if this counts, but the don bowls (rice bowls) at Nijiya are really good (if a bit small) and average around $8. I’m glad you went to Madras Cafe, because it is one of Sunnyvale’s best places and one of the few cheaper eats places in town.
I had good luck at Super Taqueria, wondering if you have tried it. Also some nice foods from Coffee Lovers and Paris Baguette. Don't eat out much though, usually head for Trader Joe's for tasty on a budget. Oh, another tasty spot in the south bay that I found(although not really budget based) is the Celtic Tea Shop, good for pies and other tasty items. Also forgot to mention the various Indian Shops that have hot Samosa's, nice spicy treat and usually a great deal. New India Bazar is one. Lots of other interesting items in those store as well.
