I really liked the previous version, from about, hmm, eight years ago? This new one looks nicely upgraded, especially about the leather strap. I wish it was just a regular three hander, like the older version, simply to satisfy my nostalgia for what was back then my first wrist watch purchase. Certainly punches above its weight, given the price point.
Love the look and feel of Urushi, which is related to poison oak and so can only be applied by artisan who have built up a tolerance to the toxins. (It is extremely expensive in Japanese fountain pens, so these dials are a relative bargain comparatively.) I think the reason Seiko does the strap that way is that in Japan it is rude to point the end of your strap toward someone (just as it is considered rude to point your chopstix toward another person or to show them the bottom of your shoes, etc.) and more polite to point them toward yourself... :)
Seiko puts the strap like that because it's considered bad form on japan to have the loose end of the strap pointing towards the person you talk to. Or so I was told on a Seiko Boutique when I bought a Presage there.
As mentioned already- urushi lacquer fountain pens are among the most expensive and considered to have the highest levels of craftsmanship... so it is a bit puzzling that a dial would have that high level of craftsmanship/difficulty to make, only to be paired with a 4R series movement. It's such a contradiction of values.
Hi Barry, this really looks the part. However I can't help feeling that it would be improved if it had the 6R64 movement. I note that Seiko is the company behind the majority of your reported movement problems. So it looks good, but I'll stick with the European brands if it's my money being spent. Thanks for the review, LG Bob 🍻
Yep I do agree Seiko are still 50 years been the Swiss when it comes to their movement in one regard and thats the date jump. The Swiss movements have an instant jump at 12 where as Seiko takes normally around an hour, even on their high 8L movements. I would say their QC is slowly getting better 👍🏻 all the best matey
Love that dial.
The dial is sweet
Love this watch. Thanks for the review
Its not one cover much by others reviews as everyone seem to stick to their dive watches

I didn't know that Mr Z, thank you for the information.

Thanks for the info it makes sure now but I'd still turn it round myself :)
Really like the design but it's so damn expensive compared to some presages
Its because it carries the 6R movement

Hi Samual this one does have a 6R movement in the back but I know what you mean
