Spending a Night in my Car at Zanskar's Coldest Village

  • I drove to Aksho, the last (or maybe first) village of Zanskar, to experience snowfall. I camped in my car to experience the cold at the place and then planned to go to the village the next day. But then things took a different turn..

    Something unique is there in your videos...... Something very raw and highly practical. No faking. No show off. No over reacting. No drama. Simply live experience sharing.
    Hats off to your art.
    Mashallah.

    Amazing. My definition of so cold is 10 degrees celsius. Please note that there is no minus sign in front of that.
    Amazing. The kind of locations you go to and the weather you deal with.

    • @indiainmotion

      Haha.. We are all wired differently I think. I kind of enjoy the cold, but it is always a bit of a struggle in the evenings when the sun goes down and I have to cook in the cold. Whether it is a car or a tent the experience is quite the same in the evenings. Nights are mostly comfy though once I get inside the sleeping bag.

    I can feel the cold and uneasiness that you are experiencing in surviving and shooting on top of it. I went to Spiti this winter and experienced the -20C temperature, it was bone-chilling. Your video reminded me of that again. I have been following your work for a long time and inspired by it. Please keep up the good work!!

Space/mylar blanket, hand warmers, thermos with hot water to last long, solar kettle/chargers, heat fresh/clean snow rather than frozen stored water, compass and map, spare petrol, ready to eat non perishable foods, non flame induction stove, small fire extinguisher, etc. The stopped vehicle is pretty much your life saver! Those temperatures are very dangerous. Planning all aspects prior can mean avoiding a serious accident. Gby sir.

    Pls consider using some sort of fireproof barrier on the walls of your car as well if you continue to cook inside the car. You can see in the video itself that the sides of the flame lick the seatbelt area as well as the inner walls. Some of them are made of material that will easily melt and deform even with just a little bit of heat.
    A simple barrier made of something like aluminium foil backed by cardboard would both stop that, and assist you with heat reflection as well. Please take care of yourelf!

    • @indiainmotion
      @indiainmotion  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      To be honest.. -30C was just the forecast. I have no idea what the temperature would have been. Also the inside of the car is actually pretty warm once I close the doors (and leave a 1cm gap in one of the windows for ventilation). So the night inside the car would have been about -10C. I was using my autumn -18C sleeping bag in the car during this winter. I had another -30C sleeping bag with me, but I used it only when camping outdoors. It was not necessary at all in the car.

  • @santoshpatnaik1988

    • @indiainmotion
      @indiainmotion  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Na.. getting inside is fine. It is not much trouble. But I hate getting out of the sleeping bag at night to go pee.. or in this case (at the end the video) to take some photos of the night sky. You need a lot of will power to get out when you are nice and toasty inside.

    • @indiainmotion

      As long as the cylinder does not leak fuel it is very safe. Obviously the cylinder cannot touch the flame, but a inch or 2 gap between the cylinder and the flame is totally fine. I have been using this stove for almost 15 years now.

    How do you manage to start the car in the morning? Does the fuel freeze? And is there any problem with the battery at that temperature?

      Petrol vehicle.. so no problems with cold starts. Battery also worked fine this winter.
