I love seeing this young generation discover real music. Timeless music. Phenomenal music. Baby making music. Luther will always live through his great music. Jack is a whole vibe when he hears good music lol I love it.
Luther is king among male vocalist. “If Only For One Night” is awesome. He & Beyoncé have a cover together of “The Closer I Get To You” in which they both SANGGG.
@@VLovesmith7999 Yesss!! I remember hearing it for the first time when I was young & I was like “Beyoncé can sing SING!?” I also couldn’t get Tiffany Pollard’s voice out of my head lol.
The G.O.A.T never disappoints! That “Say you’re gonna be, are you gonna be, say you’re gonna be...” part has been sampled in so many hip hop tracks. Masterpiece! 🙌🏾🙌🏾🙌🏾
All right, Jack!!! I haven’t tuned in to you for a while, but when I saw that you were reviewing THIS SONG, I had to stop EVERYTHING and watch! This song is such a masterpiece, and I loved your reaction. Also, your intro is great!👍🏾💙
Luther no one can compare!! He’s the male version of The Voice!! Yesssss!!!! Saw him twice in concert and live he sounds just like the recording!! LIVE!! Silhouette voice!!! He’s the man!! LUTHER VANDROSS! No Doubt!! Drop the mic!!!! 🎤
What makes me sad is that there is never gonna be anymore ballads like this coming out in the future, at least on the radio. They can make as many “in your feelings” songs as they want now, but these are types of songs that really get me sad
Jack where you stopped it and replayed that's the sample from Kanye's "Slow Jams" ft twista and big tune from Kanye's first album which I consider a classic!!
Luther Vandross is EVERYTHING! His vocals are unmatched even to this day. No one sings like him. He truly sings about LOVE. The lyrics to his songs are beautiful, he sings them beautifully, the instrumentation is ALWAYS beautiful. I mean there’s nothing bad to say about Luther. It’s tough to pick a favorite Luther song but one of mine is “Love Won’t Let Me Wait”. The Live at Radio City Music Hall version is a masterpiece. Oh yeah, Luther live is even better than Luther recorded. Imagine that! 😂.
Burt Bacharach songwriter. Gotta check his stuff, very unique, even his lighter work that was sort of pop. Check the music he did with Dionne Warwick (Whitney Houston’s auntie). That was Dionne’s original break through from the ‘60’s, & she recorded this song originally, probably in the ‘70’s, but Luther sure put his stamp on this bad boy! His musical director & producer was pianist/keyboardist, Nat Adderly, Jr., sone of legendary jazz trumpeter composer, the late Nat Adderly, & nephew to Nat’s brother, band leader, master alto saxophonist, the late Cannonball Adderly.
Luther always overwhelmed with his voice in so many ways. He had to face alot of jealousy and rumors within the industry but his fans were male and female alike. His live performance of this song in tribute to Dionne Warwick at the NAACP Awards is here on TH-cam also. It's a must see. 🤔
His performance of this on Soul Train is magical. 💖 Definitely looked like an experience. I remember feeling so shocked to find out that Twista and Kanye's "are you gonna be, say you're gonna be" in "Slow Jamz" from like back in '05 was actually a Luther Vandross sample. Every time I hear that part I think of this 😂
Jack...before the song even started playing I said to myself “this is gonna mess him up” lol!! Just like it messed all of us up back in 1981. I was a teenager at the time this song came out! I have so many memories! Today I am 54 years young. From the point of when this masterpiece was released, it was solidified; Luther was among the top 3- 5 greatest of all time. He was gifted! His music is timeless and will live on forever. Nonetheless, he is sorely missed. But I am thankful that God allowed us to live on the earth at this time to be witnesses to his greatness firsthand! Luther Vandross was truly a blessing to the world. You may as well close shop for the day because you can’t even top that one. Your reaction was priceless!!! Thank you for keeping this great music alive that the world in its current state so desperately needs. ❤️
Don’t know if anyone mentioned this, but this song is a cover. It was originally written by Burt Bacharach and Hal David for Dionne Warwick, who originally recorded it for a (now) little-remembered 1964 movie of the same name. At the time, it was only a modest hit for Warwick. When Luther covered it in the 1980s, it reintroduced the song to a new generation and, of course, Luther made the vocal arrangement his own. It was an even bigger hit with his version. Here is a link to video footage of Luther performing this song at the 1988 NAACP awards with Warwick in the audience. It should go without saying that his performance brought Warwick (as well as most of the audience) to tears: th-cam.com/video/gQ9ZVGM7smE/w-d-xo.html
@@rayjones5684 Thanks for the correction. It's fixed. You're absolutely right, I forgot to give credit to Hal David. My apologies. Another titan of songwriting that doesn't often get the credit he deserves.
Jack, boy, props to you! You're a cool young dude with old man level musical wisdom. Keep doin' it. Luther and Anita Baker are two of my all time favorites. I appreciate you!
Brings back memories of the basement house parties back in the day and the slow “dancing” that went down to this song..AND it’s more than 7 minutes long too! 😜☺️ Luther is like no other and that voice will be missed forever, RIP! ♥️
This is my all time favorite song of his. Never mind his live version where he totally owns it!! No other artist compares to him,he is so missed. Glad you shared.
Trust me when I say, you will change your new favorite each time you listen to this man's work. He is a perfectionist. This is what makes his music like no other. He paid special attention to every last detail right down to the last note played. I hurt so much just thinking of what more he had in his musical genius mind that the world will not ever hear.😭😭😭
This was one of my mother's all time favorite songs, but my dad always said whenever he came home and she had it playing on repeat he knew he was in trouble for something. He said if he opened the door and heard this song playing, he would tell himself "NOPE" and turn right back around to give her time to calm down.
Deborah Cox singing "How Did You Get Here?" is also another song that can move you and get you lost in the music and pull all your emotions to the surface!
Luther “If this world was mine” just amazing...

This song is timeless just like Luther's voice. He sings so effortlessly. He has that SSV (Silky Soulful Voice)
Luther is treasure. He’ll have you felling emotions you never even knew existed. This song live tho? MAGICAL!
