This was a tribute night for Dionne Warwick. That's why the camera stayed on her. And this is a cover of one of her hits. Luther was a HUGE fan of hers.

Dionne Warwick recorded the song in 1964 or thereabouts. She and Vandross had been very close friends so as a tribute to Dionne, he released his version of the song on his debut album, Never Too Much, in honor of their friendship. There are many versions of the song, but Luther's is the most famous by far.

Luther & Oorah - Agree, awkward and stupid questions but Luther had some control over that situation. First of all he didn't even have to agree to the interview. Second, he really didn't have to answer the question if he didn't want to. My point: It wasn't all on Oprah.

I thought that Luther Vandross had made a name for himself as a solo artist in 1985 when Stevie Wonder released his hit song, "Part-Time Lover". I was totally shocked to discover from reading the liner notes (no internet searches back then) that all the scatting vocals throughout that song were not Stevie but Luther! Of course, hearing the very last moments of the tune, which they never got to on the radio, you can tell it's him...

It was mostly a massacre and sting's reaction to the performance was like confused. By the way you are hitting all the right statements without spoiling the artist with too much commentary. It’s the right balance so more power to all of you . Darren from the uk. I was at the Wembley arena when he played live. And I’m still talking about it today. Luther died two days before my mother. It roped me more ways than you can ever imagine. @TheBr3akRoom oprah and luther were great friends. He had a serious stroke and was out of the public eye for awhile. Luther truly believed he was going to get better. We, his guns had not seen him a you know how people are. The rumors were rampant. He wanted to let his fans see him to try to put us at ease. He said in that interview. Not to worry. He es going to make a come back and that he would walk and sing again someday. I think you know that didn't happen but I understood what he was trying to do. My best friend had a serious stroke and she was and is much like Luther was. She is the same way. She goes out as much as she can and is often trying to show people that she will make a comeback. She had the stroke in 2017. She has had some small improvement but she is forever changed. It hard to see her like that but I understand more now than ever she not Luther wanted anyone to feel sorry for them. I want crazy about Oprah's questions but that was Luther's choice to do that interview. He reached out to her. That was a grown a$$ man. I'm really tired of men blaming women for the choices and decisions THEY make. They were friends. He chose her to re-emerge to the public. Accept that ot was his decision and he had people, family members in his life that were fine with it too. It wasn't that he wasn't ready. He was never gonna get any better. That was his new norm. It was a shock to us all to see him like that, but that is how he was. That is what a severe stroke looks like. Trust me, like I said 6years later after my friend had her stroke. She still can barely walk, and her speech is severely slurred. What you saw was normal. Unfortunately, Luther had another stroke and died.
