Thanks for the shoutout on my video Autumn 😊
I think the recession is already here in many ways when we look at inflation, debt, interest rates and employment. Australia has all the criteria met except our employment rate is good - and I believe that will cushion our economy from the worst of it. If people are waiting for it to be named before they make any necessary changes or preparations then it’s probably too late to reduce the impact sadly.
I’m so excited for your Oregon move 🤗

We have very different opinions on fakes. To me fakes are always bad because it takes skill, time, energy, and money to design products and create a product. The victim of fakes is the person or people who created the original design. I get that mostly big companies are knocked off but it hurts small designers too. Small designers need to know that their designs will be respected as well. If not then the larger companies could just steal designs from them. Of course it's not just design. Stealing someone's brand name is terrible too. A brand name costs a lot of money to create and put in the minds of people.
If an influencer is buying fakes, representing them as real, and encouraging people to buy the real then the person influenced is the victim in that case. Normalizing spending a lot of money on bags can cause people to think it's no big deal to go into debt to get them. Of course there are people who genuinely spend a lot of money on bags, but they are reasonably rare. I watch and enjoy some of these people but understand they aren't the norm, and I don't need to try to emulate their spending. I would feel duped, however, if I discovered the bags they were representing as real were actually fake.
I don't think that calling influencers out for representing a fake as real is bullying. If someone is doing that then they should be called out. I checked out the site you were talking about. In some cases I can see that the bag isn't real but am not sure I would have noticed if it wasn't called out. I agree that it would be nice to point out why (hoping that doesn't help people create even better fakes btw) it is a fake, but I see it as a public service, not bullying, to point it out.

Yes, it's an intellectual property issue representing a brand and its' design, craftsmanship, quality, materials, logo/brand. Even if someone openly says their bag is a fake/counterfeit (with logo) it means they're OK with IP theft in all forms. Regardless of how it was made, where the money goes, supporting IP theft is still supporting IP theft and a violation of trademark and copyright laws if a fake bag has a trademarked logo. The UN has published materials that provide information about counterfeit goods linked to illicit crimes (drugs, corruption, money laundering). Also, I'm not sure any artists would be cool with someone 100% replicating their original designs and selling them at any level or scale. Luxury or not.

    • @jaks_bag_attack
      @jaks_bag_attack ปีที่แล้ว

I like inspired bags, I think a should flap bag is rather generic, so why buy a fake, people want the fake logo because what the brand represents or else we would all just have a normal leather quilted bag without a brand and be fine. I have had fakes all gifted to me, and what I found was while I knew it was fake others assumed it was real. I didn't actually like that I was representing the brand with a product not theirs. I am totally fine with imitation as high flattery but not out right counterfeits. It's a fine line for the creator and the consumers

Another great video, Autumn - always interesting to hear your take on things. I went to Chanel and LV today at the Mall and the prices were just ridiculous. I'm older and can afford many of anything at this point but I just refuse to pay stupid prices. I'm not saying I'll never buy more of these bags but I'm good for now (and getting back into Ferragamo - I still have their bags and shoes in great shape from 25 years ago!). At this point in life I don't want or like fakes of anything. Good luck with your move prep - overwhelming, I'm going through it myself.

They closed two Walmarts in Portland. Theft so bad they losing money and cops aren’t allowed to jail them for shoplifting. It’s in the news. I’d say move to the coast but not Portland. No neighborhood is good anymore.

  • @winnies2393
    @winnies2393 ปีที่แล้ว +4

Why lay people off in anticipation of a recession? Easy answer- shareholders. A leaner workforce means less overhead expense. Less money out is a great thing for the people up top (who are very interested in their own job security over everything else) to be able to tell shareholders when the economy/business gets rough. Unfortunately that means the people who have lost their job (through no fault of their own) end up being a “positive” bullet point during an end of quarter shareholder presentation. I’ve gone through multiple rounds of layoffs in my job and this is what I’ve witnessed as the reason. It sucks but the reality is companies aren’t people, and the people who run the companies have to answer to shareholders, and generally speaking, shareholders really don’t care about the employees who they’ve never met. They just want the most return possible on their investment.

No shame in buying what you want, as long as there’s no chance of selling it to someone as real if you have a fake. If someone questions it, I think it’s appropriate to be honest. Much of what’s been said about fakes has been blown way out of proportion.

Your #1 priority for your apartment is that it's pet friendly. Everything else will fall into place. As for luxury, I'm doing less and less of that. Even the preloved market is expensive, and the prices of necessities are going up, up, up. In our area, the price of electricity went up by 40% two months ago!

Love these last two video... Oregonian here and live in Forest Grove! Based on a previous video where you were looking at Lake Oswego I would recommend that you two look into Beaverton (specifically the Progress Ridge/Murrayhill, West Slope and Cedar Hills neighborhoods) and Hillsboro (Orenco and Tanasbourne neighborhoods). Great neighborhoods based on cost, safety, amenities, local parks/trails, +/- 15min to Cooper Mountain Wine Country and downtown Portland, +/- 90min to the coast. Ive heard great things about Tigardand Sherwood and I also love SW Portland if you want to live within the City boundary but in neighborhoods that feel a bit like the suburbs. Happy to chat more if you have questions for your upcoming trip.

My issue with fakes is theft of someone else's work. I personally don't want to support an industry that thrives on theft of intellectual property. I also dont want to try to appear as though I can afford something when in fact i can't. If I can't afford the real item, there are many beautiful similarly styled alternatives to choose from. And if I can afford a luxury item but choose not to support them, I would definitely not want to carry anything with their logo on it even if it were a fake. 💛

The Fed raises interest rates to cool off the economy (again today), so the cost of borrowing money is more expensive. Negative GDP growth, higher interest rates, and soaring inflation affects businesses as well as individuals and families. Consumers will decrease their spending which forces businesses to adjust their operations - big business answers to stock holders while small businesses answers to family and / or bank. All of which does the intended to "cool off the economy".

Hi! I don't think Fashionphile got the memo. They seem to be going strong with their above retail prices. Are you giving up teaching? I don't know what the benefits are as a teacher in Houston but in New York there's a lot to lose if you choose to leave the Dept of Education. Of course depending on how much time you've invested. As far as fake bags...to each his own. I don't buy them nor wear them but not for any other reason accept I want the real deal and if I cannot afford it, I just wont have one at all. It's not that important to me. Great video😊

Hi Autumn, many factors caused recession, one of which is the interest rates hike and now also because of the Russia-Ukraine war which has impacted on energy and commodity prices. The laying of by big corporations is in the name that they are over staff. I know what you meant why do these companies have to make it happened. But i supposed if they can cut cost, they will do it regardless it is good or bad times. I believed there are some slowness in some businesses and when they can't meet the top line (which is the sales) they will cut the bottom line (which is the expenses). My take for luxury handbag is if i do not have the money, i just don't buy it. I do not mind buying handbags that are similar design but not fake that cost a fraction of the luxury brand prices. Owing some LV, Chanel and others myself, i do use non luxury brands too if the place that i am going that day is not that safe so to speak. So, that does not matter to me. As for my spending on luxury, i will certainly pick and choose with more thoughts thoroughly. Ok not that i am buying without much thoughts previously but now even more so. Thanks for sharing and all the best for your move.

The biggest advice don't do multnomah county (portland, some "tigard" areas) they have crazy taxes on top of what you pay. i am in Washington county, its a bit better. i dont go downtown much, too many tents, trash, and homelessness. it doesnt feel the same. i dont feel safe going down there or even taking any of my lux bags. i do go to NW 23rd ave/the pearL area with them, a bit better. but you will see some homeless on the streets.

Hi Autumn, I'm no expert in economy as well, but one thing that accelerates recession is the fact that interest rates get higher and loans cost more to pay to the bank. Many companies pay their employees through loans they make with the bank while they invest in the future of the company, but now that inflation is getting so high a lot of companies sell less than they used to, so they let the employees go in order to balance the montly expenses of the company. Consequently, this will enlarge the unemployment rate and society will get deeper into the recession. We are all in the hands of the Banks...

I think selling fake handbags is the same as stealing, and buying fake handbags is supporting the act of stealing.
Here in Japan, selling fake handbags is a crime, and you get arrested for it and lose your business.
There may have been people selling fake handbags from long ago, just like there have been crimes like burglary and murder from long ago, but that doesn't justify these crimes.
I think selling and buying fake handbags is a shameful act.
Hermes has obtained trademark rights for the designs of some of their bags and are successfully suing organizations that have infringed their rights.
I think more and more fashion houses will follow suit in the future.

With regard to the current recession, and as it relates to the rest of the world. I think it is important to ask why are many countries in a recession, not just noting many of us are. Also noteworthy, is whether the current economic situation is being experienced by the whole world, or just the collective west?

If you quit spending prices come down. The only thing I can think is that there are puppet master behind the scenes. We have purchased a freeze dryer and have been freeze drying food in case there’s great upheaval.

The whole firing people in preparation for a recession is done because not having to pay all those salaries and benefits makes the companies look better / in a stronger position financially. Keeps investors happy so hopefully they will not sell their stock when the recession hits. Not condoning it…just explaining the dynamic.

I would absolutely love to hear what you had / will have put together if you’d like to still post a blog all about it using your footnotes or links on information you find. Such a controversial interesting topic for sure. I personally have no problem to buy a replica. I personally would buy them from China which I would imagine be less likely made for terrorizing. Plus they are well known in China for beautiful replicas which does take skill. It’s also easy on the wallet. Real or fake it’s all a matter of what you can afford as well as what you prefer. All the best for your move to Oregon. I hope you get that going and have a lovely smooth transition. Thank you for the links below and I’m looking forward to watching your next video. Are you sure you want to move to Portland? I’ve lived in Portland the last 26 years. We used to be known as the jewel of the west but no longer. The homeless crisis/drug crisis is totally out of control. Downtown Portland used to be a wonderful place to hear live music, eat at a wonderful restaurant, see a play, go to a film but not any longer. The streets are lined with tents, drug addicts, garbage and human waste. Drugs possession is no longer a crime. Taxes are high, jobs are scarce and unfortunately the powers that be are adverse to taking a stand for change. Shoplifting has closed many a Portland store because police won’t respond to a shoplift in progress or a car being broken into. I used to be a proud Portland citizen and homeowner but not anymore and I find that heartbreaking. Please do a lot of research if you still wish to move here.

Roxie and Baron!!!!!. Such beauties! I like your balanced thoughtful views on today's topic. I only have one fake and it's a bad one that was gifted to me. But in any event it's no one's business what another person buys so berating someone for their choice is not the answer IMO. I very well might find it offputting if a company did "fill in the blank", enough to not give them my business. But am I going to commit to research all brand origins or go on someone elses say so who takes it upon themselves to research for me?. Nope. Not without compelling evidence anyway. And this conversation goes beyond "fakes". If ones reasoning was child labor for instance, this is not an issue exclusive to luxe, fakes, etc. That could exist anywhere. So where would one draw the line?

We are definitely going to be in a recession - we have already been in one at points during the Pandemic since the true definition of recession is, "a period of temporary economic decline during which trade and industrial activity are reduced, generally identified by a fall in GDP in two successive quarters." Luckily my job is pretty "recession proof" in the sense that clients will often hire my organization to help them figure out how to do more with less resources. When we are not in a recession or when there are not inflationary pressures clients tend to hire my firm to figure out best investments to augment their current work, etc.

As a creative in Marketing, my job is ALWAYS on the line. Most businesses don't see our value because of how much we spend. So we're the first to get the ax when they want to cut costs. However, I work in manufacturing. I market a very niche, very technical type of product. I challenge the company to find anyone remotely qualified and offer them what they currently pay me.
I agree with you about the fakes. The Birkin Slayer disgusts me. I followed them for a while. I thought it was a Bravo Real Housewives gossip-type page. So much misogyny. Calling people s**ts and wh**es. Not to mention they have been wrong quite a few times. Idk if you read the interview they did with The Purse Forum, but in it, they call themselves Hermes security. And say they are part of a special club that needs to be protected. They don't care about kids or terrorism. Or even intellectual property. It's about people they perceive as inferior carrying their bags.

I first remember reading about fakes-fund-fillintheblank back in the 90s in Harpers Bazaar and maybe Linda Wells’ Allure magazine … Which makes sense; on the editorial side they champion designers and creativity. On the commerce/advertising side, they need brands to thrive. As you said, tale as old as time … TFS Autumn 💫

Interesting topic. I’m a member of a Coach Counterfeits group, and the position of the group is counterfeiting is illegal, and so is selling counterfeit goods. If members identify counterfeit goods in the market (eBay, Facebook marketplace, poshmark etc), they educate the seller (who may be unaware), and lobby the platform to remove the item as it’s fake. Many platforms refund you if the bag is fake, but you keep the item. Some group members who have inadvertently purchased a bag which turns out to be fake have destroyed the bag or removed any branding from the bag so it can’t be used to deceive other potential buyers.

I am a born and raised Oregonian. The Portland area/ the valley has changed a lot in the last 20 years. The suburbs down I5 can be a great place to live, but all areas are expensive. If you want to stay and live in Portland, SW Portland is great. Portland and the suburbs are like anyplace, there are good, safe areas and areas that are not safe to live. Good luck on your adventure.

I used to live downtown. It’s so bad now. I tend to shop at Wash Sq and Bridgeport.

So fakes, I have had counterfeit items, mostly clothing that had brand names but that brand never made it, I have been gifted fake bags, I used them wore the clothing, I didn't have a problem, my problem came with others thinking it was real, and told folks oh no this is fake. So now I don't mind a fake as long as the logo is not on it, so inspired by, mostly I like the style of. Mostly, I don't want to misrepresent a companies product, but it's a fine line.

What is a low price for a luxury bag for you is too expensive for those with families and kids to feed, cost of school activities etc. It’s all perception and priorities. I am not one to spend money on luxury handbags these days because I’m paying off bills and helping out my family with some expenses. I have luxury bags almost new in my closet that I rarely use but plan to eventually. I think if someone wants to buy a fake that’s their business, their choice. My splurge is a new luxury German sports car. I prefer to drive a nice high end luxury sports car than buying a lot of luxury handbags. I think we should all do whatever fits into our budget and makes us happy! All big cities have issues. LA is a large city but there are areas that are clean, nice and several miles away from the homeless. I think you will enjoy the weather in the Portland area more than Texas and in opinion, Oregon is a much prettier state than Texas.

My guess is that you will enjoy West Coast politics over the lunatics in Texas.
