The relationship between Maple and Cedar is so sweet. You are so kind to adopt them. I'm curious how you came up with the name Vincent for your parrot.
At the time I got Vincent I named all my animals after artists. Vincent van Gogh. My dachshund Sebastian was named after Bach. With African Grey parrots you can't tell if they're male or female by looking at them so I named her then found out later she's likely female because she exhibited nesting behaviors.

They're so cute! We put a bird feeder on our new balcony and of course the squirrels took it over (it's easily accessible to them). When my mom was here she bought us that little picnic table which holds an ear of corn for the squirrels. They love it. I remember when you first got Roxy. Wow! it's been 5 years. Barron is just adorable. I never hear Vincent anymore. I had two parakeets 10 years ago and I loved them. They are so cute. That is so awesome you adopted the birds.

I've got 2 budgies too, lovely little things. They're very talkative, and my hen is definitely the boss. They also squabble, but he loves to preen her 😁 xx

My one cat that I rescued is blind as well and it’s amazing how well animals can navigate around despite their disabilities. If my cat Freddie gets disoriented or loses track of where he is around the house, my two other cats run to his rescue to show him where to go. Thank you for sharing your new family members 💛🩵
So cute. Glad you have them as clearly they bring much joy to your home. The answer to your question is if you don’t provide them with a safe place to nest they will generally stop mating. It looks like you might have stopped the cycle by taking the nest out. Having said that this too might not stop the mating and laying but as you saw with no nest the eggs will likely break. I have seen birds decide to use feed bowls for a nest though so just a warning on that. I had a pair like this and in the end I used covers on the feeders so they could only stick their heads in the bowls and not their whole bodies. Hope this helps

It sounds like you are thinking things through very carefully. Every animal, humans too, have different personalities and challenges. I think it’s absolutely wonderful that they ended up with you. My personal feeling with all creatures is to build trust and love will follow. I think going slow and observing sounds like a great idea. Ohhh that's so sweet, I'm so glad you adopted them and gave them a good home. I bet they feel better in a calm place versus a noisy store with many people around. They are so cute, congrats!! I had a male and female pair of Parakeets when I was a kid - the female looked just like Maple and the male had the same markings as her but was green. They are great to have 💙💚
How sweet! I had a pair of finches and even after taking out the nest, the female kept laying eggs...in the food bowl. The best thing I found was to rotate the nest in and out periodically and then just tossed the eggs. I did break them open and I never did get one that was fertilized, I'm not sure what makes a difference that causes that. 🤷♀️ We lost the female after we'd had a cold spell and the heater near their cage failed, she got pneumonia, and yes, you are absolutely right about by the time you see they are sick, it's too late. Fergus lived to be 8 though which is old for a zebra finch, we woke up one morning to find he had passed in his favorite bed. 😢

I used to have a lovebird and a cockatiel. I tamed both of them by having food in my hands. It took them about 2 months to start sitting on my hand. Every bird is different.
I need to get myself on a schedule to train them and get them used to my hands...for their own safety if nothing else. If they were to get out, it's best that they feel safe coming to me.
To finger tame just put your index finger up next to their chest and press and they should stand up on the finger. Just go slowly and once on the finger move it to other things and allow them to step off. You can also once they feel comfortable play going up the index fingers like going up a stairs.
Loved this! My parents loved birds and had several from McCaws to your Vincent’s breed. That one was a huge talker and mimicked my mother’s voice. She hand raised him like you did Vincent but he loved my dad 😂 Anyway too many years ago and so I can’t help you out but so excited for you!
I knew I heard a bird! As a bird mom I recognized the noise. Thanks for adopting them! I would put a thick towel or a cushion, which you can cover with a wee wee pad for easy clean up, on the bottom of the cage, in case she falls. I probably would not have removed that Chinese take out container toy. She may have been resting her legs. I’m guessing if they’re not tame, they were a breeding pair.
Whoops, I wrote my comment before listening to the end. I’d put dummy eggs in the Chinese container. Also take her for a vet check soon. Maybe a Lupron shot would help with the egg laying.
@@AutumnBeckman I have a male umbrella cockatoo and he goes through nesting season and tries to hatch his toys. He’ll sit on them for hours. Someone sent me a dummy egg but he’s not interested, he’d rather sit on a wood block. But for a female bird hopefully the dummy eggs will work. Keep us updated please.

Such lucky birds to get a new home with you! I’d definitely check with an Avian expert who maybe specializes in parakeets. I’ve had several but they were always the same sex so I never had a nesting issue. Sounds like you’ve got a great plan for their future!
