Can the inputs that are _not_ combo (1 - 16) also accept line level? I would want to use it mostly to mix keyboards and rack synths. Most interested in the 32SX.
Yes, but if you have a really hot line level device you could have an issue. I have all of my synths plugged directly into Mic inputs with no issues. This includes vintage gear like DX7, D50 and RX7 as well as more modern synths like OB6 and Super Gemini.
The two apps I run are Universal Control (for the mixer) and Studio One RC (for Studio One) bu neither at 16:16. ;-) I'm running them on a Google Pixelbook laptop. I'm not a fan of Apple products.
In DAW control, would you also have to set a project/scene, or would everything connect automatically when you brought up a mix in your DAW? Are there analogue inputs that would bypass the onboard preamps if you liked the sound of preamps you may already have better? It’s an interesting board for sure but it seems so overkill, I’m leaning towards the Faderport 16 as I already have an 18 input interface which is already more than I need. Plus there’s so many colored lights, lol. I do love the idea or 33 faders though…
@@HalcyonGuitars With DAW control, the faders and knobs set themselves to your DAW session so there is no need for a project/scene relating to DAW control. The board will just read the current DAW settings. You can also control plugins with DAW control using the touch panel (muting them etc), but I find that finicky. Much easier to control plugins with a mouse. However, when using FatChannel as the plugin, the board has FatChannel as well, so it's easier to manipulate. 16 channels have combo jacks, so you can either plug in external preamps, or any line level source. Only the 64s has a full 32 combo jacks. I use 12 external mic pres connected the line ins. I am then able to insert external hardware in the recording chain using my patch bay.
@@EdgetoneStudios Thanks. I remember how I was trying to word the question. If you were using the FatChannel effects for the mixdown, would the DAW remember the board settings to instruct recall like it would the fader levels, or would you need to set a scene to bring the board to recall pan and effect settings if you wanted to step away from it for a bit or do revisions?
@@HalcyonGuitars If you were using the FatChannel effect built into the mixer on mixdown, the DAW would not know about it and would not be able to recall. This would be a strange scenario, especially for a Studio One user since they would likely just use the FatChannel in Studio One, and not in the board. In order to use the mixer's FatChannel during mixdown, you would have to set all tracks (or their busses) to send to individual outs and set the mixer's channels to USB, and then you would have to record the main output from the mixer (basically turning it into a digital summing mixer). That really wouldn't add anything not achievable in the box. However, if you also were adding some outboard gear for mixing (like a Burl B32 summing mixer and hardware bus compressor), then it could be done and might be worth it. I used to do that but have moved to in-the-box for mix processing.

Can you tell me the app you are running on you iPad at 16:16?

But it still needs more i/o and expedition slots for outer box gear
For that you would need to get a Studiolive 64s and a Studiolive 32R. That would give a total of 64 inputs and they could all be either mic or line.
