SXSBlog.com I agree with Doug. Mine has been problem free 1000 miles, and I ride woods and trails in Wisconsin and the UP. I believe a lot of yxz's would benefit from driver mods! Lol
Absolutely! About 2500 miles of hard miles on mine. I drive it just like Doug hahaha petal to the metal everywhere and I haven't had 1 single issue. Best overall machine out there for sure.

Man, ever since they came out with these, I’ve been dying to get one!! I’m also a huge Yamaha guy, and the fact it has 3 pedals.. literally all my dreams came true. Ever since Sport SXS, I’ve been waiting for someone to come out with a true Manual trans.. 3 pedals is life! I’m in love!

Jay Taylor 70/30, 30" blackwater tires, eastern Ohio tight trails, lots of hills and ruts and mud, wish I would've gotten the 70/30/15 for more top speed the 1% of time I need it and 32" blackwaters since they run short
Jay Taylor with the 70/30 I've been able to rock crawl no problem. If you are planning on 30 and up tires I'd recommend the lower ratio with the 15% overdrive, right now I can idle along in 1st and the speedo doesn't even register a speed
@@mudbuck318 i'm buying one today- what do you mean by "70/30"? i'm a northeast rider (maine, vt & nh) more canopy trails and logging roads. i prefer bottom end over top end.
@@smeglin1 70/30 gear reduction, also the gytr reduction offered from Yamaha. But for what you’re describing the 2019 and up gearing would be perfect. Even with the larger gear reduction these still don’t have a ton of torque, all the power is 7k rpms and up
Man we had ours about a month and I absolutely love the yxz ss the paddle shift is where it’s at as far as I’m concerned. You don’t have to take your Hands off the wheel. Thumbs up from me

1600 miles on my 16. Great unit as a whole. Very fun to drive much different experience than anything out there. Only issue I had was rear axle CV boots failed from lack of protection. Put some mud flaps on and it's been trouble free.
Only about 800 miles on mine, owned it just under a year and its been bulletproof also. The only issue I had I caused myself by lawn darting in the dunes at ~40mph. Even with that, minor repairs and the yxz is screaming through the trails again. I wish it had the X3 suspension, but I still wouldn't trade for one. Its just too much fun to drive.
Finally some real info, Thank you! Right! I only buy geared machines and i won't by another one until its perfect. 800 5,6,7spd Wolverine just as it was back before 2003. What is your opinion on the new YXZ SS? Did Yamaha make an improvement with this? I live in the Southeast and have a Motocross background and have always ridden Yamaha and I want/need something durable since I'm married with 2 kids and don't want something breaking and costing me tons of money all the time. It'll be used for mild wooded trail riding with a few mild jumps here and there. No abusing, mud bogging, or rock climbing. Would you recommend the new YXZ SS? Because I'm torn between the RZR XP 1000,Can Am DPS Maverick 1000, And YXZ SS. Any advice would be much appreciated.
SXSBlog.com Thanks a bunch between your reply and a few other YXZ owners I think I've finally made my decision. God knows it's been killing me. I've been wanting one but was torn and on the fence on which damn SxS would be the best for me,God knows my wife would kill me if I spent this kind of money on a piece of junk. Once again thanks
You guys have some cool stuff on here makes me wanta buy one again almost did couple years ago but got a boat instead no lack of water in Michigan right
My YXZ has been sound with almost 2k hard miles lots of racing still on stock clutch. Only thing I've broke is a front axle from doing diff lock donuts so that was my fault. For the price you cant beat a YXZ. When are you guys going to do a trip to Oregon to ride the dunes maybe UTV takeover.
I'm having a hard time deciding between this or a Can-Am.... if it had better suspension like the Can-Am I'd be completely sold for sure cuz I like the idea of having a clutch banging gears!
Had mine 1.5 years and id never go back...the manual is so much more involved driving and it gives you so much more control...I was a 4 stroke drive style guy before and once I stopped feeling bad about taking it up to 10k I really learned to maneuver this machine...where I farm we have 16" furrows for miles and the suspension handles them like they don't even exist at 70 mph no vibration or anything. The only thing that has out maneuvered me is a Polaris general with tracks...thanks sxsblog.com Doug, Nick, and Nick you guys give us all a great honest unbiased perspective of what all these machines do...if you're ever in eastern Washington my door is open.
I’m should be getting mine here in a couple weeks. It’s a 21 XTR SS. I’d like the three peddle option if it came in an XTR, but I’m not sweating it. I just wanted to know if you still had your YXZ and how’s it holding up if you do?
I am really considering this because I love Yamaha. I want to lift it because I’m in Florida and we have deep water. Do you think the clutch will have issue pushing larger tires?
SXSBlog, have you guys ridden the YXZ SS SE at all? I'm curious to see if you think it's upgraded parts overcome some of the short comings you talk about in this video.
The SS is gonna mask the lack of low end power a LITTLE bit, and there are some upgraded shocks but really the shortcomings are the same. These things certainly aren't an issue for everyone though, the YXZ is a great overall machine.
Thanks Bro, Very useful info. Just realised that I can afford (?!!!!!) a used version. At 5:27 you mentioned the cage not being so good, can You add details for me, as having broken my back I certainly need to trust the Buggy, and the seats seam a good bet too. Be lucky and stay safe. From the UK
Rolled mine over in the sand, bent/twisted frame. Munched cage... more to list but she is demolished and it didn't even do a full barrel roll on the sand. Total loss
Was just wondering, I know you guys do more high speed desert running, but wanted Dougs option on the GYRT gear reduction system. Mainly asking because I'm in the south and run more low speed / rock crawl and like the concept of the YXZ over belt driver.
I did the gytr and added the 15% fifth gear overdrive. Its a whole different driving experience. First gear is for crawling and I haven't found anything I can't crawl over. I can set the throttle at about 3500rpm and get over just about anything without touching the clutch. I'm running 30" tires btw. As far as the rest of the gears, 2nd through 4th are geared lower than the originals so you have better acceleration through 4th. If I'm racing I just start in second gear. You will feel a noticeable hit going from 4th to 5th as the ratio gap is much bigger with the overdrive, but the car still accelerates hard. I highly recommend this setup!
For the riding we do, mostly fast trail, I find the stock gearing really good so I'm not looking to change it on my own rig. For the kinda riding you describe though, I've heard nothing but positive reviews. Buy it, ride it, and there will certainly be an option available to fit your tastes.
I’d be curious to see what Doug’s take is on the small chassis and shock changes on the 2019’s and up are and if it was really an improvement. @sxsblog
Just got myself a new 2017 YXZ1000R SE over the holidays. At only 50% of it's current stock break-in capability, I discovered that it's pretty much like riding my YZ250FX racing enduro bike, just in a flattened version. So much more fun, than the fun I knew I was already going to have~ th-cam.com/video/FeG71cKgQdg/w-d-xo.html Thx to you & your buds for taking the time to produce this channel, I've learned a lot bout what needs to happen next~ Best, S.
SXSBlog, if you guys decide you'd like to come down to the Ozark National Forest and do some riding, feel free to hit me up I know a lot of the great places down there and unfortunately we could be facing some trail closings and new legislation and I'd love to have y'all down here to highlight the place and help create a movement and an awareness to keep these trails open... just let me know and I'll make some phone calls...sincerely a big fan. CYBERMAVRIK
In terms of drag racing it's just kind of a complex band-aid to cover up what it really needs, which is more power. Running stock tires you can pull the stock gearing in 4wd out of the hole with no problem with an exhaust / reflash / light flywheel. We've got a YXZ with this setup hanging right with a stock X3 in 500' with just that. Certainly everyone's setup is different and there is a place for lower gearing, but it isn't always better.
Doug Butterfield After watching the video of your light flywheel test, i ordered one for my GYTR geared YXZ - can't wait to see the effect that has on my spool up when climbing some of nasty hills in PA & OH.
rhino250r garbage(period). Watched 3 over heat 20 minutes into an all day ride in may. One snapped shaft halfway through day. Dealership where I bought my sxs marked 7 of them down $8k because no one wants them.
SXSBlog.com Nelson’s speed shop in Greenville. I’ll go through my cell photos because I took a pic. Not trying to hate I have no particular favorites. Enjoy your channel. I’m rocking a Honda pioneer 1000 5 for the family capacity and work capabilities
Yeah but unfortunately the stock spring rates are way too far off to properly compensate with the adjustments, at least on my model, I can't speak for the upgraded shock packages that some get.
Mark Borkowski yea I adjusted my stock suspension to the softest settings and I'm running 0 preload in the rear.....these machines our over sprung in rear....I have no issues with ride quality and landing jumps is like landing on cloud....lol
This is so funny, I think that the only reason people say that they love this Machine is because they are to Embarrassed to say that they don’t hold up at all after they spend the money on them . Last weekend I went trail riding with 2 of these . We had to to the 1000r out of the woods cause it lost the clutch , then this week another ride with a new YZX 1000ss and yep another clutch with less than 300 miles . The rest of the Machine seems to work well but not worth shit if the clutch goes out that easy .
3300 miles on ours now and still on the stock clutch. The abuse it has taken is evident in the videos. If your buds are blowing them that soon they either need a driver mod or got some defective parts.
Do our YXZ owning fans agree? Has your YXZ been as trouble free as Doug's?
SXSBlog.com I agree with Doug. Mine has been problem free 1000 miles, and I ride woods and trails in Wisconsin and the UP. I believe a lot of yxz's would benefit from driver mods! Lol
1500ish miles on mine. Only issue was a bad CV boot first weekend I had it. Zero issues since. Drive it like Ya stole it!

At only 50% of it's current stock break-in capability, I discovered that it's pretty much like riding my YZ250FX racing enduro bike, just in a flattened version. So much more fun, than the fun I knew I was already going to have~ th-cam.com/video/FeG71cKgQdg/w-d-xo.html
Thx to you & your buds for taking the time to produce this channel, I've learned a lot bout what needs to happen next~ Best, S.
Who friggen cares what this dude thinks?
Haha
Ur a dick
nothing beats yamaha in reliability..and is the only shit that matters..all others power-grip-suspension can be fixed
Do you have to use the clutch to shift this thing or can you flat shift it?
You need to use the clutch.
Did you have to regear it? Everybody I know that has them had to regear.
Nah, we ain’t into rock crawling. Stock gearing works fine for us
How much to upgrade the cage?
love mine ..stock clutch know how to drive it ..

If you only had to do one mod or only could do one mod what would it be and why?
Well, if price is no object, turbo. But, bang for the buck the dual rate springs made the biggest difference in enjoyability.
Doug, have you put any thought into a gear reduction kit for it?
Have driven em and it isn't my cup of tea for the type of riding we usually do, but I absolutely can see where a lot of people would love it.
Doug Butterfield
not even the lower first? - would love to see if it could improve the jump out on the X3.

After watching the video of your light flywheel test, i ordered one for my GYTR geared YXZ - can't wait to see the effect that has on my spool up when climbing some of nasty hills in PA & OH.
What price range is good on a used 16 or 17?
We've seen them as low as 9500 and as high as 16000. A clean unit should be in the 11-12 range IMO
SXSBlog.com thank you. I thought that's what they should be but around here I see them from 15-18k...used (proud owner/sellers I guess)
00:48 "we rode Hatfield McCoy with it". I call BS. Seeing is believing :p
Lol
I will post me riding at Hatfield and McCoy’s this week . Even hit some black trails also. We rode rock house all day very easy riding there ???
Have you had any problems with the radiator clogging with mud?
Nope, actually have never had that issue, but talked with guys who have. The mud around here must not be as sticky.
Ah the illusive hatfield McCoy videos.
The YXZ bulletproof period.
rhino250r garbage(period). Watched 3 over heat 20 minutes into an all day ride in may. One snapped shaft halfway through day. Dealership where I bought my sxs marked 7 of them down $8k because no one wants them.
$8k huh? What dealer? I'll buy one.
Typical hater, you'll never get a reply to that. :)
SXSBlog.com Nelson’s speed shop in Greenville. I’ll go through my cell photos because I took a pic. Not trying to hate I have no particular favorites. Enjoy your channel. I’m rocking a Honda pioneer 1000 5 for the family capacity and work capabilities
You sure on this 8k?
Is there any adjustability on the factory suspension?
Yeah but unfortunately the stock spring rates are way too far off to properly compensate with the adjustments, at least on my model, I can't speak for the upgraded shock packages that some get.
Mark Borkowski yea I adjusted my stock suspension to the softest settings and I'm running 0 preload in the rear.....these machines our over sprung in rear....I have no issues with ride quality and landing jumps is like landing on cloud....lol
I am getting a Yamaha yxz 1000 r for 10k that has 8 hours on it
Are they tough as they say?
did you watch the video? lol
SXSBlog.com yes I did thanks for the review there’s not many honest reviews on yxz 1000 out there
SXSBlog.com so I’m getting a good deal ?
ya dood
.... title should have read "Yamaha YXZ... Is she good, bud?"
BUD
This video kept me laughing with every action clip! what a machine, this is obviously worth the price lol
Overall great value
I want to see this with 300 whp
Nice
Like a crack head waiting for the next fix. BOOOOOM, got my high on and watched another sxsblog.com zero percent off video.
YALL GOT ANY OF THEM SIDE BY SIDE BLOGS?
Rev limiter drops??? Oh you mean can't driver demonstrations.
It's called "drag racing"

Driver is 100% the only reason this thing dont suck.
OMG. Do you guys even work? You get paid to make TH-cam videos? Send me an application.
Just throw a Busa motor in it please
If only there was a 2-speed transfer case in them.
