This song gave words to how people going through Depression and Suicidal Ideations felt on a daily basis struggling with their mental health. Nowadays help is much more easily accessed, when this song came out, it wasn't as easy. People were told that they were just being dramatic or faking for attention, especially if they were younger. Many people still had the terrible idea that only "crazy" people went to therapy or took meds, so the landscape for mental health wasn't where it's at now. These misconceptions about mental illness still exist today, but not in the capacity they used to. Music like this gave a small sense of "I am understood, I am not alone" to those of us just trying to stay alive.
I owe my life to Linkin Park. While I was in the darkest places in my life LP was an outlet of frustration and understanding. Their music let me know I wasn't the only one in the black and thinking of The Edge. While the fans couldn't help Chester, he helped THOUSANDS of us.
I’ve listened to LINKIN PARK since I was a teen, and I continued to listen to them throughout their entire career. There’s certainly some albums I liked better than others. Chester passed away in 2017, and a few months later my wife passed away that year too. We were high school, sweethearts, and thinking back I had started listening to the band around the same year we got together. LINKIN PARK and also Mike Shinodas solo album, post traumatic, basically got me through the first couple years after she passed. One more light hits so hard for me. Which is kind of ironic because they were instrumental in helping me through my teen years too.
Funny you said you could see a Dragon Ball z fight happening to this. There were a TON of FMVs that people made with Dragon Ball footage and Linkin Park songs over them. Chester Bennington is the lead singer. He is legendary for his vocal fry (screaming type of vocals). Mike Shinoda is the rapper/guitarist in the band. They have other songs where Mike sings/raps the verses and Chester sings the chorus. I think the best song to hear the extent of Chester's voice is Given Up (Live at Milton Keynes), and for Mike's rapping I'd recommend Bleed It Out (also the Live at Milton Keynes version). While Hybrid Theory album and Meteora albums have some great songs, I think these 2 are straight fire and wouldn't disappoint. Also, Mike Shinoda had a side group called Fort Minor, which was rap, and had a very popular song called "Remember The Name." I'd check that out. Finally, Linkin Park did a collab with Jay-Z. Greatest hidden gem song by Linkin Park is "My December". It was released as a bonus track on specific versions of Hybrid Theory (their debut album). It's very stripped down and sincere.
You are 1000% correct about some metal/hardcore fans acting elitist towards Linking Park. Years ago I saw a video of a guy standing outside an LP concert holding a sign and shouting “Linkin Park is a roller coaster!” And when people asked what he meant he said “it seems dangerous but is actually really safe and not real danger.” He was an asshat upset that people liked rock music that wasn’t hard enough for him. And I’m sure there are lots out there like him. I personally think LP was a great fusion of a few genres that allowed people to find the parts the liked and then move deeper into that genre.
Hybrid Theory was the sound of middle school for me. At the time it wasnt super mainstream, but a lot of us felt like they were talking to us and empathizing with what we felt.
I was no teenager when I started listening to Linkin Park….their songs pulled me thru some really hard times. I wish love could have saved Chester…he was so loved.
This nu metal / grunge / post-grunge / pop punk shit was super popular in my rural-ish community amongst the hardcore White trash youth, circa late 90s-early 00s. You either listened to country, or you listened to this, then got some tattoos. We had an underground high school station with a weak signal that played this kind of stuff, and it showed you were "edgy" (unlike the country kids). Love it.
i’ve never been emo and i like the underground. i’m into 90s death metal a lot but i still LOVE this song. it has its place in the history of metal. it’s still a classic metal song and it’s a very much loved song
Bro just discovered your channel today and first one I watched was your reaction to rage killing in the name of and I just about rolled outta my chair laughin at how ya call it white boy music! And how much ya gettin into it! Love it man! Listen to all rage! All linkin park is bad ass also! Keep it goin bro!
I will say in regard to those people in high school. It was often the other way around from how you put it. People were able to feel like someone else understands them while listening to this. This kind of music is expression pure and simple.
Linkin Park in my opinion is one of the best bands of all time, the truth in the lyrics and the production of their music is amazing, look into their history, it’s sad but inspiring for some of us, believe it or not
While I never got massively into LINKIN PARK, the scream he does when he says, shut up. Was the first time I as a 10-year-old had ever heard a metal or hard-core scream. And it hooked me immediately. I became more of a punk fan, but this song definitely caught my attention musically to find out more.
Rob was on the ball super hard twice here. People were making hella DBZ AMVs with Linkin Park songs back in the day. And also Hardcore metal fans definitely were hating on this shit saying its too mainstream, good times lmao. I love these vids man, keep em coming!
It's funny you mention DBZ, because in the early TH-cam days, this is EXACTLY one of the tracks they used to use in big DBZ fight scenes. Also if you dig Hybrid Theory, in their follow-up, ReAnimation, they remix the entire Hybrid Theory album but have hiphop features and a few other guest stars but with a more electronic lean. This was the soundtrack to my Halo LAN parties.
RobTV you should hear Larkin Poe sing Mad As a Hatter. They're Edgar Allan Poe's great great great great grandkids, and the song is beautiful. Get the version performed at the Covenant House. Blows my mind every time
I remember when this album first came out there were multiple music videos of One Step Closer where Gohan goes Super Saiyan against Cell. Just thinking of that video gives me chills.
Rap has alot in common with punk, grunge, metal, emo so it doesn't surprise me you like it, common themes and vibe. Plus Linkin Park has quite a bit of rap influence in it.
Yeah, Linkin Park was the "Angsty White Teen" band of the early 2000's. If you can find it, Linkin Park and Jay -Z did some mash up work together. Album called Collision Course.
As an underground rock fan, my brother and I couldn’t not love Linkin Park songs when they hit the radio back in the early 2000’s. Good music is good regardless.
You are spot on about that whole high school vibe thing. I remember being asked if I liked Linkin Park; I said I didn't really like it and this kid got mega pissed at me. He couldn't believe that someone didn't like what he liked.
Also the song probably most requested for Rage is Down Rodeo. Pronounced "Row-day-oh" and it's a reference to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills CA. Rich, rich, RICH people shit.
It's crazy that you mention Dragonball Z in this video, because Linkin Park / DBZ AMVs were huge on TH-cam in its early days around 2006-2010. Especially this song! To the point that Dragonball Z Abridged by Teamfourstar specifically referenced this song during the Cell Games arc.
Yo Rob you doing reactions now!? You doing it all bro!!! Btw, react to Hi Ren by the artist named Ren. It's a masterpiece of pure art bro! This kid is so talented! I guarantee you it's so unexpected what you are gonna hear, and you'll get chills or goosebumps too!
I think you would love some Coheed and Cambria, maybe A Favorhouse Atlantic, or The Suffering, Welcome Home has been reacted to so many times but i never get tired of people hearing Claudio for the first time
Loved the reactions! Funny you mentioned DBZ- One of the better AMVs I watched in high school was this song centered around Gohan during the end of the Cell Saga
I like the part where RobTV is talking, and then Linkin Park tells him to shut up. Lol You're reactions and insight into these songs is great and so entertaining. Thank you!
Hybrid Theory was one of the most fire albums to ever come out. That shit was absolute insane when it hit. A lot of this stuff is mainstream because linkin park. They have also always had an amazing reputation in the industry. Always heard their concerts were absolutely electric. Everyone I've talked to that went said there was just an energy about them you didn't get with other bands.
Limp Bizkit is a great numetal or "rap/rock" band "break stuff" "Rollin" and "nookie" are three of their best hits. "Rollin" actually has cameos from people like Dr Dre, and Eminem and the lead singer from Korn.
This is the band that got plenty of black kids into rock music in the early 2000s. Back when u basically had to hide that u liked any other type of music besides rap and rnb. They got solid albums their whole career, but must listens....hybrid theory, meteora, reanimation, fort minor, minutes to midnight, a thousand suns, and living things. After that I would say at least listen to one more light the song as that's the last track they had before the lead singer deleted himself. Out of all the music and genres I listen to this is the only band/act that I've paid to see more than once...and I come from mainly Atlanta/southern rap music as my daily listening since a kid.
Korn actually was my intro to nu metal. Linkin Park just made it better. Nirvana was my intro to grunge. I listened to a lot of KROQ back in '97. Now, I love it.
Yes, please do the livestream. I'm here for it. Especially would love to see you do RatM's self-titled debut album ( which has Killing in the Name Of on it).

Linkin Park always gave me the most colourful soundscapes; they really build an environment in their songs. Idk how they do it.
Hybrid Theory is an amazing album! Nearly every track is incredible. There is a remix album too that's also pretty awesome.
You'll love "Place For My Head" by Linkin Park. Some good bars and good screaming from Chester.
live in texas
My soul song!!
@@wambo1228 100 % The Live in Texas version is a whole new experience to the song.
Whoever is feeding you the songs is doing a great job. You're getting straight bangers. There are a lot better ones to come.
Greatest hidden gem song by Linkin Park is "My December". It was released as a bonus track on specific versions of Hybrid Theory (their debut album). It's very stripped down and sincere.
Rob I think we’re gonna need another rage against the machine. Down Rodeo.
Take the power back first
Bulls on parade
Guerilla Radio!
Down Rodeo 100% !!
If you react to rage. Pull up the lyrics. It’s a must!!!
You are 1000% correct about some metal/hardcore fans acting elitist towards Linking Park. Years ago I saw a video of a guy standing outside an LP concert holding a sign and shouting “Linkin Park is a roller coaster!” And when people asked what he meant he said “it seems dangerous but is actually really safe and not real danger.”
He was an asshat upset that people liked rock music that wasn’t hard enough for him.
You hit the nail on the head when you said DBZ fight, cuz this got used in a million DBZ anime music videos!
"SO that's why you were like that in high school" - fucking LMAO. Spot on.
Love it.
BLEED IT OUT by linkin park brings HEAT from the start to the end… it would 100% get you boppin
i’ve never been emo and i like the underground. i’m into 90s death metal a lot but i still LOVE this song. it has its place in the history of metal. it’s still a classic metal song and it’s a very much loved song
i feel called out i was extremely into this in middle school and high school.
i still feel this to my core.
Its crazy to see reactions to songs and groups that I grew up on in middle school/ high school and now everyone is like "oohhhhhh, i get it now"
Chester bennington "Shut up when im talking to you"
He instantly shuts ups and starts jamming out 🤣
New here to your channel, I'm just your average white guy and I find your honest opinions refreshing. Thank you for being real it's appreciated.
Some classic rock will blow your mind as well. Rush, Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, The Who, SRV, ZZ Top…
You absolutely nailed the fandom behind this band and those who hated them.
aye even he listened to chester. when chester said "shut up when I'm talking to you" he actually stopped talking hahaah love you man
Also the Linkin Park/Executioners/Static X collab is is legit. Well worth a listen.
It’s only the music video that wayne static x as cameo played guitar.. actually in recording: mike shinoda played it
2/3
I will say in regard to those people in high school. It was often the other way around from how you put it. People were able to feel like someone else understands them while listening to this.
This kind of music is expression pure and simple.
Linkin Park in my opinion is one of the best bands of all time, the truth in the lyrics and the production of their music is amazing, look into their history, it’s sad but inspiring for some of us, believe it or not
History doesn't matter, their production matters and their personal connection and continued artistry and Mike and Joe!
After listening to this you definitely gotta do Linkin Park ft Jay Z- 99 Problems/One Step Closer mashup 🔥 🔥 🔥
Yes! Yes! Yes!
Blows my mind every time
The DBZ call out is great, in middle and high school we used to play SSBM and make combo videos with Linkin park as the background track lol
I remember when this album first came out there were multiple music videos of One Step Closer where Gohan goes Super Saiyan against Cell. Just thinking of that video gives me chills.
57 year old white woman here…my favorite Linkin Park song!
Linkin Park's first album, Hybrid Theory, was released in 2000. Meteora was released in 2003.
Rap has alot in common with punk, grunge, metal, emo so it doesn't surprise me you like it, common themes and vibe. Plus Linkin Park has quite a bit of rap influence in it.
points of authority is my favourite. nice channel brother.
You’d really love their songs Crawling and In The End. BANGERS
When they come for me is a great song but my favorite by Linkin park is A place for my head. Both songs are great! Check ‘em both out!
Yeah, Linkin Park was the "Angsty White Teen" band of the early 2000's. If you can find it, Linkin Park and Jay -Z did some mash up work together. Album called Collision Course.
"One Hand Killing" by Twelve Foot Ninja is a great reaction. Great band that disbanded recently.
The essence of "mom I need a bigger room" music
The DBZ comment is hilarious. So many DBZ videos edited with Linkin Park music.
Hybrid theory is amazing, linkin park is my fav band of all time, i hope you do more brother!
Oh my god. So many flashbacks to high school for me. I would just spend hours of every day with Hybrid Theory and Meteora in my portable cd player.
subbed for saying you love 'I write sins not tragedies' timeless dissing lmao
For the most part linkin park is well respected in both rock and hip hop heads
Also the song probably most requested for Rage is Down Rodeo. Pronounced "Row-day-oh" and it's a reference to Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills CA. Rich, rich, RICH people shit.
Even old school metal fans love this song.
It's crazy that you mention Dragonball Z in this video, because Linkin Park / DBZ AMVs were huge on TH-cam in its early days around 2006-2010. Especially this song! To the point that Dragonball Z Abridged by Teamfourstar specifically referenced this song during the Cell Games arc.
just found your channel, definitely one of the best I've found. also you kind of remind of twomad, except not quite as unhinged
Glad you enjoyed yourself man. Always nice to find new music!
They did an album of remixes named Reanimation...lots of amazing remixes of their first albums hybrid Theory.
Lol
You're reactions and insight into these songs is great and so entertaining. Thank you!
I thought it was hilarious that both times he says "Shut up when I'm talking to you" Rob says something.
Music is what weaves us all together brother! \m/
oh man i need more Rage from you, exited for all of it
it's on the way!
Needs to watch rock am version live !!! Its takes this to a whole nother level!!!!
You look cool as fuck headbanging to the beat with the light reflecting off your glasses. Perfect vibe to the song.
You want a real rush...watch Linkin Park Live in Texas concert....That was crazy good. Love your reaction to by the way.
Great reaction! Now I cant wait for you to get into Meteora and Somewhere I Belong
How are you so on-point with what you're saying?! Your intuition and putting it into words is amazing!
Limp Bizkit is a great numetal or "rap/rock" band "break stuff" "Rollin" and "nookie" are three of their best hits.
"Rollin" actually has cameos from people like Dr Dre, and Eminem and the lead singer from Korn.
You really should react to Senses Fail - Can't be Saved. Absolute classic. Love these vids by the way!
live stream sounds dope dude
Haha can't wait till you get to korn!!!!!! It's like my HS years all over again! Love it!
You can say whatever you want about Linkin Park but the energy they brought to every song and performance is absolute.
And listen to
“Let the bodies hit the floor!”
I am always willing to give myself a concussion to this song
Their collab album with Jay-Z fire too
I loved your Rage reaction, so I checked out your other videos, too. I love your honesty and now I'm subbed!
This album is so good! JayZ even dug it and collaborated to remix it too.
I’m down for there to be live album reactions
Yes, please do the livestream. I'm here for it. Especially would love to see you do RatM's self-titled debut album ( which has Killing in the Name Of on it).
Your pure joy when you love something is so great ahaha
Bro, if you be live streaming albums a must do eventually is the Boack Parade album by MCR.
You said you had listened to the title track of that album before but that while album is fire and works super hard as a package
Oh my the album thing is my absolute favorite because bands make an album in order for a reason!
I highly suggest Tool’s first album Opiate. ❤
Hey Rob,
Just found your channel! Your reactions are funny AF and I appreciate your honesty, your Chop Suey review was refreshing to see.
