Its very important to understand that YT used another video to effectively "check" the contents of a black creator in this instance. The first decision was de facto - non-black creator has same video, we can approve. The damning decision by YT that enforces the belief there is prejudice in the decision making or policy enforcing process is that they used another creator's content to validate the work of another -- not to levy the same penalty (which they did with Charlie/Mark) and subsequently attempted to rectify with Cory/Mark. The double back tracking, along with the immediate rejection of the appeal is where this has traction. And this ought to be discussed objectively by people like Ludwig and asking the questions as to WHY this may have happened and not going straight to "IT CANT BE THIS".
I think it’s better than the alternative which many other companies take, which is to always double down and never revert anything. While yes, I very much agree that TH-cam guidelines are clearly not clear enough or are enforced inconsistently among employees, it has nothing to do with racism or anything like it. I think what is happening is these controversial cases are getting moved to higher ups at TH-cam, like a Supreme Court kinda where they are the final say on the interpretation of the rules, which I personally think would be an excellent way of doing it if it is true. Ie: first time is just some random employee, appeal might be his boss, talks after that is the Supreme Court setting a president.

Tbh I feel like Cory is one of the more advertiser friendly TH-camrs. He censors all curse words and rarely curses himself. He's also probably one of the most positive personalities on this site. The only problem is that he takes 9 month breaks every now and then. It's really weird how he gets treated differently by TH-cam.

Cory is like the most advertiser friendly dude on the platform. Hes funny, responsible, he doesnt swear, he makes somewhat family friendly content, hes a man of god, and on top of all that, hes honestly hands down one of THE BEST most wholesome youtubers on here. Love you cory!
100% agree he is a household name for my family. I watch him, my brother in highschool watches him and my sister in middle school watches him. He’s all around positive fun.
I remember Charlie getting that strike, but forgot it was specifically him and when you were talking about Cory that exactly came to mind in a different and similar way. That was the first time I believe that Mark ever got striked in his whole career. Mark did not mind his channel struck since he does know he is well liked and probably could of made sense why Cory did Mark's video since he would understand what he meant. TH-cam has some serious issues with just understanding context of videos and cultures as to name a few. Just terrible and hope one day that TH-cam can fix this stuff.
I've seen some people blaming Mark for this situation, even two years ago with Charlie too, can't believe how dumb some people can be It's obvious he's on the favourite side but it's not his fault for being seen as a more monetizeable figure by TH-cam TH-cam has been on this way since 2016 and as far as I can tell, no change will come to the platform as long as they view some of their creators as obstacles for total monetization

TH-cam really needs to do better. I’ve been watching Cory for about three years now and he is one of the most popular and unproblematic creators on this platform. Seeing this just disappoints me.

you're right, but in terms of this video's monetization it's kind of a lose-lose: - if it remains monetized, they aren't being consistent and are being discriminatory - if it is demonetized, they're not responsive or supportive to community outcry of unfair treatment
More inclined to believe in Favoritism and there is a lot of evidence of it over the years. I think there are a lot of employees with internal bias at all of these companies that affects these platforms and the polices and how they are unevenly applied. Solid video Ludwig.

I do think it’s ridiculous that somewhere in TH-cam there’s some kind of spite striking any time anyone calls them out for their decisions, but I don’t think that it looks bad when they go back on that decision as Lud says - The fact that they did it is bad, but going back on it shows a level of integrity where they don’t engage in cognitive dissonance and refuse to admit that any dumb thing they do is wrong and make the site worse without listening to its user base. Definitely it shouldn’t happen in the first place, but I don’t think Lud should admonish them being able to say “we were wrong”. I’m curious to hear what other people think on this view though!
I think in both cases the problem is they doubled down first. If they immediately walked back the age restriction/demonetisation then it can be seen as showing integrity and realising their mistake but by doubling down first then walking it back after further backlash it just looks like pandering to the community. Further, this is not a site for just sharing video content anymore, people rely on TH-cam as an employer for their livelihood and the flimsy and often times inconsistent way in which they can both apply and revoke the application of guidelines is a real issue. YT walking back their punishment again shows further favouritism as even though they are less liked than Mark, they are both still large creators that can cause uproar and smaller channels just can’t do that and will suffer unfair consequences

Take Pokemon for instance, the quality of many of their games in recent years is lacking, however people still buy the games and praise the developers for pushing back deadlines or when they patch certain issues - when in fact that should be the bare minimum, and doing such praise lets them get away with it. Back in the current context, I suppose it becomes an issue of, as you say, livelihood on the line, not just a mistake that can be walked back to square one so easily. So maybe i'm being a little to generous with my own "forgiveness" of their actions..? Idk haha
I think it's important people can still criticise them and they actually listen. And that should probably happen more than it does right now, especially when it's about small creators. So yes, I agree. TH-cam has a tendency to react immature, a "you don't like parts of this thing we do? Well then we'll stop it entirely and *also* take the good parts away". This attitude makes navigating discussions really difficult and creators find it even harder to reach out and shape a platform we all enjoy.

Ludwigs contract with youtube makes me feel a lot more comfortable with staying on this platform. To accept a form of critique openly, especially in a contract, at least shows good will.
It’s actually amazing to me that Lud was just straight up like “TH-cam does play favorites” like finally someone said it. And it is even more interesting that he brought up who some of those favorites are. There are plenty of instances where it’s just people who are super advertiser friendly and pull in these huge numbers with every upload like Mr. Beast and it is crystal clear why youtube would want him front page, it’s a business move on their part, the ad revenue they generate from those videos has to be absolutely absurd. And then you have people like himself and Mark who although they don’t have the most ad-friendly videos, they managed to strike these big deals with youtube where youtube is still coming out on top from them being front page even if their content is more risqué. Then he talks about people like Charlie (who we have watched youtube actively put the smack down on and if it wasn’t for him actively getting in youtube’s face and calling them out I think they would’ve already silenced him) and even Cold Ones who are the polar opposite of ad-friendly, who don’t get any help from youtube or the algorithm but manage to stay afloat due to just an amazingly dedicated fan base and luckily making great friends on youtube who promote them even when youtube themselves won’t do it. The thing with Cory is that he is quite possibly one of the most ad-friendly people on the platform, pulling in huge numbers, has built a great fan base, but youtube doesn’t want him front page, and they attack him any time he ends up there.

I definitely believe Corey. Mark's humor is def more adult-oriented even though he does censor straight up nudity in post. I've still been surprised by even some of his thumbnails that get let through too lmao. No shade to Mark, he's hilarious, and I'm sure he'll be an upstanding guy through this. Mark also isn't fully white, he's mixed Korean. But anti-black racism can be really specific even to the point where other non-white people of color won't get targeted as hard.

At this point Mogul Mail is just my news source and I honestly love it. I feel many larger youtubers that agree with you, that TH-cam does have favorites, but they're scared to speak out on this topic because of TH-cams' action against those who have talked about this issue. I hope large scale growth occurs at some point, but a restructuring of TH-cam may be needed for this to occur.

@@Brea_D the policy people are completely anonymous and can only be judged on their actions, it's hard to prove it unless they directly call creators slurs. It is even impossible for creators to have direct access to them and have to go through a middle man which isn't really an effective way to solve anything. This whole lack of communication is the foundation of Cory's problem with them.
One thing that’s kind of off topic is that I had never seen a single video from Charlie in my recommended section, even when I used to watch videos with similar content. I only found out about Charlie because one of my friends told me that how channel was cool and I should watch it. TH-cam clearly has favorites, and it really shows.
I 100% agree with Corey, TH-cam has AI which uses datasets that cam be influenced by human biases. It has been known on multiple occasions for ai to convey human biases and this is just another example of that

In the video Cory says it's been happening for 13 years now. Every time he would go into trending a random video would get demonetized or he would receive a strike. He mentioned you want to give people the benefit of the doubt and not leap to racism but at a certain point if it's been happening for that long you gotta wonder ..

Cory's video is the sentiment of a lot of black and poc creators have been feeling for years. TH-cam seems to know these issues but they are being wishy-washy with their solutions.
Cory didn’t receive his diamond plaque for 10million subs until he reached out to TH-cam directly. He also gets flagged for videos of outdated content every 9 months he comes back to TH-cam after a hiatus and goes #1 trending for weeks. TH-cam continues to be super critical of his channel and he doesn’t do any of the offense content I see from multiple non-black TH-camrs. For TH-cam to be this major conglomerate, there’s no excuse for their team to not have their shit together. But, at this point is it really a surprise for social media platforms to treat black content creators poorly? No… not really.

Nothing new, it is the same favoritism as you see on Twitch when some streamers break TOS and get a mild slap on the wrist (short ban) and smaller streamers get banned for day up on days for something laughable.

@@craydussy At least my understanding of Ludwigs point is that it is unlikely be race related because TH-cam has shown in the past to be biased towards less marketable creators, but if Cory is already doing more then some of the more "marketable" creators to be advertiser friendly then what does that leave. So correct me if I am wrong but your saying the person flagging at youtube just has personal bias against Cory, cuz Markiplier is not the only creator that got away with the same posts without being flagged. But in this instance my argument its is more likely race related which is still technically bias. But what options does it leave, Cory's content is not far off from other creators that dont get flagged so if its not likely actually content related then its the creator. In this case you could say the youtube employees dont like his delivery or how he speaks but the most obvious discerning factor of him vs other similar creators is race.

Tbh... these videos I think are about the only constructive side of Ludwig. His normal audience on Twitch and normal persona is considerably different than his Mogul Mail vids. I can't tell you how to parent your own kids, and I won't try to assume your skills, but personally... as a former child that has grown up on the Internet, I will say that you should be careful when your kids are on the Internet. I think we live in a time where it's normal for kids to be exposed to very inappropriate things online. Whether it be hearing about Andrew Tate, his supporters, Ukraine and Russia, TikTok or smth else. Kids are smarter tho much more impressionable than we think. At the same time, we shouldn't really point fingers as to who is bad and who isn't. You should say who is bad, but being open-minded helps a lot and may decrease the chance of wrong opinions being forbidden fruit kids will eat up. My generation is already divisive. It would be a shame if the next generation is worse. So yes, this ended up being a long-winded response based on my own fears to a parent that shouldn't have to listen to my fears. But I felt I should say it anyway.
Hey Ludwig, you should definitely check out business central’s newest video where they show TH-cam changing their policies when a huge set of Russian channels used copyrighted material and got 3 strikes yet TH-cam didn’t take down their channels.

Tbh I feel like Cory is one of the more advertiser friendly TH-camrs. He censors all curse words and rarely curses himself. He's also probably one of the most positive personalities on this site. The only problem is that he takes 9 month breaks every now and then. It's really weird how he gets treated differently by TH-cam.
He probably takes those breaks because its demoralizing as hell that shit like this happens to him on the regular. Like he said, this is a trend he's noticed happen to him multiple times. That would take the wind outta my sails too.

I remember Charlie getting that strike, but forgot it was specifically him and when you were talking about Cory that exactly came to mind in a different and similar way. That was the first time I believe that Mark ever got striked in his whole career. Mark did not mind his channel struck since he does know he is well liked and probably could of made sense why Cory did Mark's video since he would understand what he meant. TH-cam has some serious issues with just understanding context of videos and cultures as to name a few. Just terrible and hope one day that TH-cam can fix this stuff.

I've seen some people blaming Mark for this situation, even two years ago with Charlie too, can't believe how dumb some people can be
It's obvious he's on the favourite side but it's not his fault for being seen as a more monetizeable figure by TH-cam
TH-cam has been on this way since 2016 and as far as I can tell, no change will come to the platform as long as they view some of their creators as obstacles for total monetization

I do think it’s ridiculous that somewhere in TH-cam there’s some kind of spite striking any time anyone calls them out for their decisions, but I don’t think that it looks bad when they go back on that decision as Lud says - The fact that they did it is bad, but going back on it shows a level of integrity where they don’t engage in cognitive dissonance and refuse to admit that any dumb thing they do is wrong and make the site worse without listening to its user base. Definitely it shouldn’t happen in the first place, but I don’t think Lud should admonish them being able to say “we were wrong”.

I agree. YT should be allowed to backtrack. It doesn't look great, but it actually shows some level of integrity, as you said.
I think in both cases the problem is they doubled down first. If they immediately walked back the age restriction/demonetisation then it can be seen as showing integrity and realising their mistake but by doubling down first then walking it back after further backlash it just looks like pandering to the community. Further, this is not a site for just sharing video content anymore, people rely on TH-cam as an employer for their livelihood and the flimsy and often times inconsistent way in which they can both apply and revoke the application of guidelines is a real issue. YT walking back their punishment again shows further favouritism as even though they are less liked than Mark, they are both still large creators that can cause uproar and smaller channels just can’t do that and will suffer unfair consequences

Take Pokemon for instance, the quality of many of their games in recent years is lacking, however people still buy the games and praise the developers for pushing back deadlines or when they patch certain issues - when in fact that should be the bare minimum, and doing such praise lets them get away with it. Back in the current context, I suppose it becomes an issue of, as you say, livelihood on the line, not just a mistake that can be walked back to square one so easily. So maybe i'm being a little to generous with my own "forgiveness" of their actions..? Idk haha
I think it's important people can still criticise them and they actually listen. And that should probably happen more than it does right now, especially when it's about small creators. So yes, I agree. TH-cam has a tendency to react immature, a "you don't like parts of this thing we do? Well then we'll stop it entirely and *also* take the good parts away". This attitude makes navigating discussions really difficult and creators find it even harder to reach out and shape a platform we all enjoy.

It’s actually amazing to me that Lud was just straight up like “TH-cam does play favorites” like finally someone said it. And it is even more interesting that he brought up who some of those favorites are. There are plenty of instances where it’s just people who are super advertiser friendly and pull in these huge numbers with every upload like Mr. Beast and it is crystal clear why youtube would want him front page, it’s a business move on their part, the ad revenue they generate from those videos has to be absolutely absurd. And then you have people like himself and Mark who although they don’t have the most ad-friendly videos, they managed to strike these big deals with youtube where youtube is still coming out on top from them being front page even if their content is more risqué. Then he talks about people like Charlie (who we have watched youtube actively put the smack down on and if it wasn’t for him actively getting in youtube’s face and calling them out I think they would’ve already silenced him) and even Cold Ones who are the polar opposite of ad-friendly, who don’t get any help from youtube or the algorithm but manage to stay afloat due to just an amazingly dedicated fan base and luckily making great friends on youtube who promote them even when youtube themselves won’t do it. The thing with Cory is that he is quite possibly one of the most ad-friendly people on the platform, pulling in huge numbers, has built a great fan base, but youtube doesn’t want him front page, and they attack him any time he ends up there.

I feel many larger youtubers that agree with you, that TH-cam does have favorites, but they're scared to speak out on this topic because of TH-cams' action against those who have talked about this issue. I hope large scale growth occurs at some point, but a restructuring of TH-cam may be needed for this to occur.

@@Brea_D the policy people are completely anonymous and can only be judged on their actions, it's hard to prove it unless they directly call creators slurs. It is even impossible for creators to have direct access to them and have to go through a middle man which isn't really an effective way to solve anything. This whole lack of communication is the foundation of Cory's problem with them.

One thing that’s kind of off topic is that I had never seen a single video from Charlie in my recommended section, even when I used to watch videos with similar content. I only found out about Charlie because one of my friends told me that how channel was cool and I should watch it. TH-cam clearly has favorites, and it really shows.

Cory's video is the sentiment of a lot of black and poc creators have been feeling for years. TH-cam seems to know these issues but they are being wishy-washy with their solutions.
Cory didn’t receive his diamond plaque for 10million subs until he reached out to TH-cam directly. He also gets flagged for videos of outdated content every 9 months he comes back to TH-cam after a hiatus and goes #1 trending for weeks. TH-cam continues to be super critical of his channel and he doesn’t do any of the offense content I see from multiple non-black TH-camrs. For TH-cam to be this major conglomerate, there’s no excuse for their team to not have their shit together. But, at this point is it really a surprise for social media platforms to treat black content creators poorly? No… not really.

This is why we are where we are. TH-camrs by the look of it are getting fucked by TH-cam left and right but right away someone calls racism and the world collapses, policies change and everyone melts. Such a cop out. I’m not the biggest fan of how TH-cam runs things sometimes but I’m even less of a fan of crying racism like a child every time things don’t go your way.
It's insane how much of this could be solved by TH-cam just communicating with people. They never tell anybody anything and then act shocked when people are left with no choice but to speculate one what the problem could be.

Huh? Not sure how anyone can think this is caused by racism when QuantumTV didn't get any punishments. This seems so clearly to me just another example of TH-cam being incredibly inconsistent and useless and disjointed. One reviewer might think those things were dodgy because they're not trained well and it's not clear, not "oh he's black".

Whenever Cory posts he gets millions of views, hundred of thousands of likes. Cory doesn’t cuss he bleeps out cuss words in the games he plays. he’s most family friendly you can get. when he did his security breach five nights at Freddy series that thing got millions of views for seven days straight and millions of likes. Cory trends almost every time he uploads a video. how is he not someone that makes them Hella money? How was he not one of your favorites in the gaming part of TH-cam? If anything he should be one of the ones getting favoritism.

Nothing new, it is the same favoritism as you see on Twitch when some streamers break TOS and get a mild slap on the wrist (short ban) and smaller streamers get banned for day up on days for something laughable.
I only disagree with the Charlie point based off Cory’s video, unlike the yard for example where the language is unhinged, he beeps his out, so ya you can argue heavy favoritism depending on the creator but he’s right that if his content is either the same or possibly better for all ages then someone else I’m with Cory where this leads to something beyond just personal bias at TH-cam

Im having a hard time understanding this comment. How does his content being the same of better for all ages lead to personal bias being striked out as an option? If anything id think it would lead to the bias option more than anything
@@craydussy At least my understanding of Ludwigs point is that it is unlikely be race related because TH-cam has shown in the past to be biased towards less marketable creators, but if Cory is already doing more then some of the more "marketable" creators to be advertiser friendly then what does that leave. So correct me if I am wrong but your saying the person flagging at youtube just has personal bias against Cory, cuz Markiplier is not the only creator that got away with the same posts without being flagged. But in this instance my argument its is more likely race related which is still technically bias. But what options does it leave, Cory's content is not far off from other creators that dont get flagged so if its not likely actually content related then its the creator. In this case you could say the youtube employees dont like his delivery or how he speaks but the most obvious discerning factor of him vs other similar creators is race.
Hey Lud! Just wanted to let you know that your script / speech-patterns on this channel specifically have been really improving. I find myself getting more interested in each video. Keep up the great work man, it’s easy to tell that you are trying to be the best person you can possibly and I wouldn’t want anyone else in front of the TH-cam CEO.
I personally think one of the reasons Mark is treated well is that he's been around a while, i'm pretty sure some youtube employees saw him, and looked up to him, as teens or children.
And because of this, i don't think they'd want to give a strike to a childhood idol.
I was watching you off and on and pretty much exclusively on TH-cam before your switch. So because of this I would only watch a video if I felt like it. After your switch I think you definitely got a boost at least from me after that. I started seeing your videos all the time after that

I know this is corny but in the face of all this Tate business, it makes me teary that it'll be 10-15 years before I know whether my 3 young sons turn out more like the young men I admire (You, Hasan, Jarvis, D'Angelo) or the dreaded redpillers. Tbh... these videos I think are about the only constructive side of Ludwig. His normal audience on Twitch and normal persona is considerably different than his Mogul Mail vids. I can't tell you how to parent your own kids, and I won't try to assume your skills, but personally... as a former child that has grown up on the Internet, I will say that you should be careful when your kids are on the Internet. I think we live in a time where it's normal for kids to be exposed to very inappropriate things online. Whether it be hearing about Andrew Tate, his supporters, Ukraine and Russia, TikTok or smth else. Kids are smarter tho much more impressionable than we think. At the same time, we shouldn't really point fingers as to who is bad and who isn't. You should say who is bad, but being open-minded helps a lot and may decrease the chance of wrong opinions being forbidden fruit kids will eat up. My generation is already divisive. It would be a shame if the next generation is worse.
So yes, this ended up being a long-winded response based on my own fears to a parent that shouldn't have to listen to my fears. But I felt I should say it anyway.

Hey Ludwig, you should definitely check out business central’s newest video where they show TH-cam changing their policies when a huge set of Russian channels used copyrighted material and got 3 strikes yet TH-cam didn’t take down their channels.
Wrong. All Russian channels - including RT - were banned from TH-cam months ago since the invasion of Ukraine.

If TH-cam seeks to better itself as a whole whether it be through streaming or regular offline vids, it needs to fix it's moderation and policies before it can even hope to stay out of drama.
