    i think a lot of big youtubers are glossing over the v real fact that being offered 300k is literally life changing money. i watched that entire interview and am broke enough that i knew i would've tried it, especially if the team was telling me "it'll be easy" to win. like as a normal, broke civilian with debts/bills to pay how are you supposed to say no to that. natsubi is exactly who i thought of.

      Yep. I literally watched the whole thing, saw this man break down and show clear signs of PTSD, and know if the exact same situation were offered to me tomorrow, I would do it. Because most of us are struggling to survive.
      I think that's part of why so many people say "hE cOuLd JuSt LeAvE" and dismiss the victim's story -- because there's a part of them that feels a little jealous? Maybe jealous isn't the right word. A part of them that feels like they could do "better?" I think for a lot of ordinary people who watch that video, we hear the prize money and our eye glaze over a bit. That IS life-changing money. That feels like an open door into a world most of us will never experience. And so we think that in that situation, we could bear it or do better than he did, because we would do just about anything for that opportunity. We say this without realizing that we have just proven EXACTLY why the victim didn't leave. When enough money is on the line, you almost lose your agency.

      That's exactly the problem with pretty much all of Mrbeast's challenges is that he puts a high prize money and purposefully finds desperate people aka the middle class, because he knows the more they are desperate, the more they are willing to compete and hence more drama = better content for him, its crazy how he has planned out all these videos to be as profitable for him as it could be, and at the end of the day, he can't even lose all his relevance on TH-cam cuz his audience is a bunch of retarded brainless 11 year olds who watch Skibidi Toilet and have the attention span of (-∞). Its tragic to see how TH-cam simply used to be a place where you could upload some dumb videos and have fun, now its pretty much how big media controlled Television in the old days, and even worse cuz internet reaches a much larger audience.

      It's surprising how much of this goes over people's heads. Everyone laughs at the outragous amount of cash any modern Hollywood movie takes these days where even if they released 'Paint-Drying: The Movie' the budget would be $120 million or something. However, there are so many roles on a film set every day depending on what exactly is happening that are not just the typical director/producer/camera/sound and actors for the camera just to ensure nothing stupid happens, laws aren't broken and people and animals aren't killed. But somehow Beast has thus far managed to get to the #1 spot of TH-cam and be the defacto YT golden child, with supposed crazy amounts of money on the line for "prizes" and a huge amount of budget for the filming. Yet all this time he's somehow managed to ride the scapegoat coattails of "Oh he's *just* some TH-camr" using the percieved negative connotation 'just some youtube person" has in contrast to what is typically considered "real" like professional film crews. All in a chance to I'd assume use his position both as a known person yet "just a youtuber" to not spend nearly as much in production costs or have to have certain roles that would of been required on "real" film set. From what is coming out combined with what we know of from things like his Amazon show, his productions would probably be seen by other more "typical" production companies and film crews as a freakin clown show run by mental children flying by the seat of their pants doing whatever they think other children are going to want to see with people going to end up hurt or eventually dead.
      I can just picture their sets - Hey Joe, you should like totally stick your head in that lion's mouth. Oh and like, look scared and scream a little bit. This'll be awesome bro, like bro, we'll get so many clicks if you stick your head in that lions mouth. OH OH. Ben! When he does it, bro you should like totally slap the lion on the butt. But like, look like you're tryin to be real stealthy and coy about it. Oh dude this is going to be awesome. What's that Joe? Sorry not now we'll talk later, gotta get rollin man, ok places people!

    I think it’s also important to note that him being a good guy around you and him overall not being a great person are not mutually exclusive. You have a massive fanbase, while everyone coming out with their negative experiences with Mr Beast are people with a significantly smaller following. In my opinion, the experiences of those with less power are far more indicative of his character.

    • @Force2reckonVods
      @Force2reckonVods 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +131

      It's also just the difference of a public facing persona vs a private facing one. As the child of a sociopathic abuser many *many* people outside the family who don't see the 'private' face think of them as good people because they know how to be good and polite and kind on the surface. The private face only comes out in certain situations, particularly where they have power or authority as a safety net. Hence why rich sociopaths tend to get called out, they think "hey I've got so much power I don't need to worry anymore" so the private face becomes *more* public and the public less prevalent.

      He has said he thinks attention is more important than money with fits well with this point. A normal bad person would respect people with a lot of money and show their real face around poorer people. Where Mr Beast cares more about the attention his "friends" have, so that, should something happen, his "friends" can tell their big audiences "thats not true guys!"
      This is why he targets kids. They are impressionable, they will take the word of their youtubers. And that is why Mr Beast will never need to do anything unless more even bigger youtubers that make kids content speak out. But that won't happen because Mr Beast has carefully controlled his image.

    In Psychology, a study is deemed unethical if you prey on a vulnerable population by incentivizing participation, especially in strenuous studies. Like if you take a starving person and offer them food in exchange for participation. There's a whole board that determines the ethics for studies. Mr. Beast is doing shit very similar to psychological studies (like Stanford Prison Experiment, for example) that NEEDS to be regulated by a third party to prevent things like this from happening. Most Americans are struggling, and so participation in harsh conditions in exchange for money gets into murky ethical shit especially dependent from person to person depending on their backgrounds (which also needs to be considered prior to putting them into a study). It isn't easy to leave when you're promised life-changing amounts of money, especially when you're brought up fighting for resources, or even if you're just the average American making minimum wage during a time where it's very difficult to get a job or a home. Most game shows should be brought into question under this thinking, however, Mr. Beast is pushing the envelope with things like putting a person in solitary for 30 days. Survivor might be in the same group as well, given what you showed. Regardless, it's important to minimize emotional or physical harm to contestants. If you're traumatizing someone for content, you're doing it wrong. There are plenty of other mediums for entertainment that don't include doing extreme shit to those involved, and with the level of money he has, there is no excuse.

      I agree with you, however, there is no such thing as an ERB/IRB or REC for "contests" that I'm aware of. He's doing these under the guise of a contest, not an experiment. The question isn't "what will happen to this person, physically or emotionally, if they stay in solitary for 30 days?" That's not what's being asked. The question is "Can this person stay in solitary for 30 days to win $1,000,000?"

      It’s the same thing in practice and there are very similar regulations for contests, the only reason he’s been able to get away with it for a while is because he’s been doing it primarily on the internet instead of on TV, so a lot of the regulation that applies to this typically hasn’t been extended due to how relevantly “recent” the internet and content creators are.

(Lot's of this information might be slightly flawed as I was still young and still am when we actually bought a house for the first time and I didn't and still don't have a proper grasp of how money works). The most money we have ever had at once (which was when we were selling lot's of items we owned to gather enough money so we could buy a house instead of constantly moving and renting houses in different parts of my country) was about 60k euros. With this it was barely enough to buy a house for 200k and slowly pay back the bank over the years which my family still hasn't completely done as we still owe the bank. 300k is lifechanging. I would literally go through hell and back to get that for my family because it would change the way we live so drastically. Saying that he was free to leave when he was being offered 300k is absolutely idiotic. If I left after already being there for so long and especially after I commited and went through pain and suffering I would never forgive myself because in the end it would've all been for nothing. He was never truly free to leave.

    i think one of the biggest problems is the fact that staying in solitary confinement with the white fluorescent lights and no clocks to tell the time so you have no concept of night and day or how many days you spent by yourself can lead to permanent brain damage just in 3 days and jake spent 10 days in there under those circumstances. it also throws off your circadian rhythm which can lead to hormonal imbalances and insomnia. to the people saying “oh he could’ve just left” i don’t think jake was in the right mind to be able to consent at that point. his brain was not working at full capacity which leaves him very vulnerable under the circumstances mr beast left him (making him think if he left without completing 30 days it would lead to the company losing money etc.). in my opinion they should’ve had a team of psychologists because they were basically filming a video on human psychology. these psychologists would then be tasked with monitoring jake’s mental status and pull the plug on the challenge when they found fit so the outcome of one single video wouldn’t be this detrimental to jake’s mental health. this is just another example of jimmy not caring about his “contestants” and having one of the worst cases of “content brain”.

    • @littleferrhis
      @littleferrhis 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +92

      I think what makes this worse is that he’s done this other times too. There was one where he locked two people in a bunker(one of which is a youtuber now), and they stayed 100 days in there. For like the first 30 days or so they had the lights on all the time, though after that Jimmy did give them an offer to turn it off. It was one of the biggest things they complained about throughout the whole thing.

    • @kiansskz
      @kiansskz 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +133

      @@littleferrhis his whole channel being built on “how far can i push poor people mentally & physically for money” in itself is a problem. in my opinion him not caring for human psyche really showed when he decided to do an irl squid game, because when regular people watch a show like that they see it as a commentary on capitalism’s life threatening effects on people but when jimmy saw it his mind went “omg! great video idea!” he doesn’t see his extreme challenges as exploiting people in need. this might be because he got very rich very young and didn’t work an actual job so when it came to running a company he didn’t know how to build proper hr or create an equal and safe work environment but i can only give so much benefit of doubt to him. not hiring a team of psychologists when filming a video on human psychology for millions to watch, not obeying the law when running those illegal lotteries when he has a legal team, not caring for contestants safety when producing a 100 million dollar amazon show, not caring or running a background check when hiring a manager who is a registered s*x offender for your channel which targets children… when everything piles together it paints a clear picture of someone who doesn’t view humans as humans but rather props he can exploit. it’s actually quite sad that the biggest channel on youtube is a huge company with no personality when jimmy gained a lot of his popularity while he was running a “sub to pewdiepie so t-series, a big company, doesn’t become the biggest channel on youtube so the platform can keep being authentic and for the people!” campaign. he really did become what he hated lmao.

      Yeah, also on top of the guilt of wasting the money the team spent on the set, the sunken cost fallacy, etc. he also cared about the "good people in the management team", and he probably knew some of them could get fired or demoted or something if he left early. Also by the time he felt the light torture, stinky mildew, stinky bath tub, stinky septic tank, and stinky paint fumes, and the bugs etc. getting to him it was also starting to impact his mental faculty, and you know, that's kinda' the thing he needed to use to appropriately weigh his own well-being over that guilt he had for those kind people in the set, so its no wonder he made the conscious and "stupid" decision to stay. Did he deserve to get tortured for that? Does caring for your friends' job security and not wanting to waste the Beast team's money, effort, and good will to prepare the set and have a video make Jake's torture not illegal or at least not unethical and/or not immoral? I think the "he had a choice and he chose dumbly" defense is just an excuse to not critically think and empathize for Jake. People who think that are actively denying their empathy, and its always been weird to me when people actively and consciously choose to deny giving pity and compassion for someone who is genuinely suffering just because the people suffering were "dumb". It reminds me of Nietzsche and his übermensch shit or whatever. I don't like it, why should their be an IQ limit to empathy?

    Hey, Ludwig -- I don't watch your content, but I've seen you in videos with other creators I like. I don't know much about you, and I have neutral to neutral-positive feelings about you. Maybe this will allow me to give you advice without bias of my own.
    I think something you're missing is that you have power -- Mr. Beast's employees and video-subjects don't. The way Mr. Beast treats you is going to be different than the way he treats other people, because if he made you unhappy, you would be a threat.
    In your shoes, I would consider acknowledging this and stepping out. Referring to it as a "bias" doesn't quite cover it, because a bias suggests you and the victims are seeing the same information, but that you have prior experiences that make you feel differently. The truth is, you and the victims have completely DIFFERENT information and experiences with this man. You will NEVER be able to be an authority on what sort of character he has, because you are not someone he could hurt without consequence. So long as you think that your own experiences are just as valid to bring to the table as theirs, you are fundamentally missing the fact that any face he put on in front of you would *never* be the one he shows ordinary people.
    I think you came close to acknowledging this, but moved on before making these connections. I think bowing out BEFORE making this connection is unfortunate, though after watching this video, I predict that this is probably your plan. I think your audience and fans will appreciate you more, however, if you do some serious self-reflection on why it is that your own perspective on this is innately less-useful than someone else's.

      Exactly. It’s stupid to think Jimmy’s treatment of fellow TH-camrs wouldn’t be different. His friendship with TH-camrs all have some sort of business involved, there’s mutual benefits and if he does something abhorrent they could call him out. Jake said (it might’ve been in a text message show) in the video that if Karl was in the same situation, MrBeasts empire would burn. But, because it was Jake, Jimmy could do whatever he wanted with him, and he would never have been able to call him out on his own. It’s the same with all these other TH-camrs and big names, Jimmy has to be friendly, has to have respect towards their humanity.

MrBeast is going to act differently towards him than he would someone who isn’t famous, like Jake for example, and that’s why Jake was able to be treated so poorly. Now, Jake was an employee, but still, it’s about being able to treat someone poorly because of their lack of followers. Personally I don’t think you should have to earn a basic human right (turning the lights off) in a challenge.
    The adaptation from the show should be “okay clearly he’s not well and he needs the light off. How can we move forward and film around it?” It doesn’t have to be part of the video.
    If the challenge was “stay in this room with the lights on” and the challenge was “if you win we’ll give you a break.” Then there is some mild dystopian justification for that.
    The challenge was “stay in this room”. Torture was never a part of that agreement. It’s the challenge runner’s responsibility to look after the contestant. If somethings wrong, fix it. The show doesn’t matter more than a person.

    3.- You don't have to dogpile on your friends for allegations without watching evidence and hearing their side of the story.
    Lessons to be learned by the internet:
    1.- Not everyone is evil and out to get you.
    2.- Nice people can and will do shitty things on accident and eventually they'll correct them. (Yes even you or your favorite person)
    3.- Content creators shouldn't be expected to make responses the day something happens specially if they're not involved and don't know the full context.

      The problem. And it's the problem with literally all reporting. When you report false stuff, like he did in other parts of the video it just makes you look so bad.

      It's almost never false though. Why now is it wrong? Plus, you gotta admit, there is no chance the video has 20000 dislikes.
