Hey Brad, after years and years of watching your videos I bought my first 4x4 and you, and others in the TH-cam family, were a great inspiration for my purchase. I’m in OC so hopefully I’ll see you out on the trails one day
All solar/Lithium batterey products in general. Even between brands. You would think that some type of universal industry standard would be adopted for cabling/connections.
Personally, I like Jackery. Their batteries/cabling/solar panels all work so easy together. I run two, 200 watt portable solar panels if I'm parked for a couple of days, basecamping. I can set them up in minutes. As the day goes on, I can move them to get the best input. Not every trip that you do requires driving for 8/10 hours a day.
Because if they can get you into their charger ecosystem, it costs too much money to switch everything over or at least is inconvenient to have multiple walkie talkies with different charging systems. They like to force you to buy their brand. Apple did it for like 15 years with the iPhone before the EU forced them to go USB C.
Another awesome video Brad. Recovery gear, yes I was one of those guys without enough soft shackles and you got me on it at TRS2, now have 4 in the bag. The domestic water jug, I love mine as well. and those KC lites... yup I won a set a TRS3, need to get them installed... but haven't decided if I want under hood, or chase lights. As always ..great content. Keep up the great work!
🌍🚐 This is what I call practical wisdom! Every piece of gear reflects real-world adventures and true grit. 💪🏾✨ As someone who loves exploring, I can feel the miles and memories in this setup. Thanks for sharing the tools that make the journey worthwhile! 🛠️🏕️🔥
Thanks for this video! I'm going to be doing a lot more tent camping this year and good water storage is on thing I've been looking for! I will be buying that once the new year is here.
The porta potty was interesting - a few years ago there was a porty potty seat available that looked like a regular toilet seat that had a bracket on the back of it that slipped into the receiver hitch on the back of your vehicle. Slip a 5-gallon bucket with a plastic bag liner under it, and you were good to go. (no pun intended) And, as long as you remembered to park your rig with the back of it pointing away from the camp site! And remembered to take the potty seat off when you left camp!
Great video Brad! We have 2 of the Dometic electric water dispensers and they work very well. One feature they have that you did not mention is the led light underneath the spout. This is an excellent helpful feature, especially in low light situations. Surprised you did not mention TrailRecon coffee☕. 😂
Enjoy the content very much. Just started watching your channel, so I’m playing catch-up. I wish the voice and volume were both easy to hear, seems the music is much louder than your voice. Might just be me, don’t know. Well done, well done indeed!
Really have enjoyed you channel for the last few years. My wife retires in 18 months, and we are getting her Mojave setup to do some extended overlanding and chasing trout with our flyrods. I have yet to find a navigation system that I really like, what do you think about the Garmin Tread Xl?
Brad, I can't seem to find that dometic 4 gal water dispenser URL anywhere? Fun video. Thanks Are you talking about the dometic 11 L water dispenser? 11 liters of water is only about 2.9 gallons
@@BMoris95 @6:21Brad states the Dometic GO Hydration Water Jug holds just over 4 gallons of water and @ 7:24 Brad says he usually likes to take 2 of these and likes to take 8 gallons of water with him????
@@dougharlow6037- The one he is showing can’t be one gallon less than your typical jerry can. Think about it. Still, not a bad option. Use the small Dometic container for drinking type water, and use the tube to suck out of a bigger container (plastic jerry style) for washing needs.
One thing I hate about the older Midlands is probably the battery compartment is just a tiny bit too small for rechargeable AA batteries so I end up having to use disposable ones. I gotten into the habit of carrying spare batteries on me with the radios.
Roof-top tents? Have you done a review of, or have a professional opinion of which rooftop tent is "the best" or which is the least expensive for the best quality? (Most 'bang for your buck?)
Regarding the recovery gear, it's acceptable kit, but the question that keeps getting asked and no one really truthfully answers is when was the last time you properly checked your tow bar, mounts and rust status? I've seen a few bars fail and the recovery insert holds up. Why I prefer a direct towbar over a reciever hitch. The rest of the kit is useful, not so sure about the LED lights, but hey, good for something I'm sure. I want to have something to light underneath when laning at night, but will prob make my own as have a load of 1W LED's that I can fit into resin and bolt on the back.
Awesome little toilet. There is no need to bend yourself into the same position as a dog taking a dump. You're comfortably seated like at home. 😁👍🏻🙋🏼♂️
I got rid of mine in 2019. Once you experience how much better gmrs or ham is, you won't go back. I have a handheld Midland gmrs, voice quality is much better, I can hop out and spot people, range on my handheld is similar to an amazing cb set up and it has a 3 inch antenna. Instead of a 3-7 foot antenna, but man did a 7 foot whip look good. $90 for 2 handhelds with a charger vs like $300 for a good cb set up.
First thank you for your service! Us Marines love and appreciate our Corpsmen. I'm also Marine retired. We've been off roading for many years and have written for a few off road magazines but decided to start taking our boat out of the country and explore islands. We also started a TH-cam channel showing our water adventures. But we came across your channel and has sparked us to get back into exploring land again so thank you. Your videos are truly awesome and inspiring and have us excited so we building up a Jeep gladiator and got out our Moby camper. We're also in SoCal so maybe will see you on a trail someday. But thank you for this amazing channel!
Quite an illuminating, educational channel with outstanding insights, insider tips, and outdoor adventure tip and scenes. Thanks and happy holidays!! Anchors Aweigh.
Why is it that every item shown except the soft shackles is a specific brand name? I know, I know, most of the items are for sale in the TrailRecon store but even older videos before the store had the same thing. My hitch recovery point is generic and costs a fraction of the Factor 55 one. My cases are Sterilite from Walmart, not Front Runner. My LiFePO4 battery is from eBay and costs less than a quarter of that Redarc one. My radio is a Baofeng which has more power than that Midland for less money. My LED lantern is from China (like that one) and I got it off Amazon for $20. I use this great for 100+ nights a year and it's great. All for a fraction of the price. So go to the store and drop some coin so everyone on the trail can admire your gear. I'll use the money I saved for gas.
i wou8ld also suggest that a good gift would a donation to your favorite land use preservation group i their, name Blue Ribbon Coalition, UFWDA. or your state 4x4 group
I clicked on the rich people video. Dude you couldn't afford any of this crap without the affiliate links and freebies and TH-cam paycheck. Why don't you price all this stuff for someone who works for a living?

Thanks for all of the information. I appreciate product reviews done after they have been used for a while.
I don’t understand why, in 2024, most walkie talkies have proprietary chargers. Everything is supposed to be USB-C by now.
That's actually a really good point!

Thanks and good catch the led light. More coffee drinking and mentions on the way!
Does the cap break on those? There is quite some reviews on REI complaining about the caps on those breaking.
Great channel! Super informative and insightful. Especially appreciate the Van Halen 1984 album cover!! 👍🏼
Thanks for the info and always honest feeback.

Great video! Any updates on the 392?!
Just don’t use the hitch point on a Cybertruck. You’ll just rip the bumper off
Fortunately it's not too hard to recover a cyber truck out of a charging station. 😂😂
LOL! Good point!
Brad, where would one obtain the bag for the toilet seat that you show in this video. I could not find it in the store.
I use those KC cyclones with their magnetic mount. Super strong and makes install on the frame a breeze.

Where can I find the Midland GTX radio with the cigarette lighter adapter?
Thanks for sharing
Thanks for watching!
can soft shackles be linked together not in a ring but "nose to tail"?
Glad to hear Midland finally built a decent rechargeable battery. I just use disposable batteries on their older units
I've tried to stop using anything that requires disposable batteries, too many times things have died and I didn't have spares.

Hey Brad, any plans to equip the gladiator with a pop up camper shell?
It's on my mind, but not something in the immediate future.

Is the CB radio not as popular anymore? :( I've had one for years...only used a few times.
Ya, most folks have switch over to GMRS or HAM. CB has its place, but seems most just aren't using it anymore.

@@scottymac5174 I think the laws changed a few years back so radios under a certain wattage falls under FRS rules.

Your Land Cruiser does in fact have a rear recovery point. Look at the right rear corner under the bumper.
