  • Please enjoy this balayage hair color tutorial for men. I call this "guy lights". This is a great technique for any guy that wants to add some dimension in his hair. I used lightener and 40 volume. For a lighter end result, you can leave the product on longer. You may damage your hair if you leave it on too long.

    It's important to note that because mannequin heads don't produce body heat, lightener works MUCH more quickly on an actual person. 40 volume for 30+ minutes on natural hair would basically get you to platinum in one go, likely damaging the hair a lot in the process.

    • @pawe3039
      @pawe3039 11 หลายเดือนก่อน

      This is how I do it at home. I wear short hair and I go to platinum in one go with a 40 vol. I'm so lucky that I have really thick hair and I'm a dark blonde so I lift easily. And it all grows out in 3 months so I don't care about the damage.
      Guys have it easier!

    Just a heads up, I wouldn't recommend applying it the way you see at 2:30, where it's covering the entire fringe.
    I did this last night and, well, the product I got must've been a lot stronger than the one he used in the video, so practically my entire fringe is reddish blonde, which isn't really balayage. Balayage is supposed to be subtle, minimalist hints/streaks of highlights. So be wary...
    I used L'Oreal platinum something or other. It was the only product at Walmart that said "for dark hair" and that it could lighten by up to 7 shades. I have really dark hair so you can see why I would get that one. Also, I kept it on for 30 minutes.
    So, in summary, just be aware that if you get a really strong product, when you apply it all over your fringe like in the video, you won't be getting balayage. In the video, it seems like the product doesn't really do much on majority of the hair... my product bleached it like hell so... you'll get a blonde fringe instead of balayage.
    Btw it doesn't look horrible... looks fine. I just wish I'd used about half the amount I did, and left gaps where the hair would remain dark.

      B4 doing any treatment to ur entire head, u can snip a small piece out from the scalp , bind the hair swatch with some cellophane tape and test the results . U can also play around with timing, taking product off, checking it and then maybe going back 4 more time. That way @ least you have a bit more control over the whole process b4 doing it to ur entire head of hair.

    this is an amazing technique! I'm in beauty school and I've yet to learn how to balayage/highlight men's hair. This was super helpful! My boyfriend wants me to balayage his hair, going from a 4.66 to a 6.66 at the ends, can I encorporate this technique? Or would I have to do a traditional application? Thank you so much!

    Lightener reacts on a live person differently. There is rarely ever a reason to use 40 volume and this is not one of those times. Our products we get from professionally licensed beauty supply stores are going to work a lot better and much different than Walmart.

      Depends how light you'd like it, the best way to check is to get the hair and rub a bit of the colour off, if it needs more time re-apply the colour. 40 vol is really strong so definitely don't leave it on for more than 50 minutes, and don't get it on the scalp cause it'll burn, hope this helped :)

    I don't feel like there is nearly enough contrast between the lights and darks...there was very little lift at all with the color and it had a very warm orangy tint....this seems to happen with the hair is not separated (cap or foil) for some reason...idk why because the in theory the dye is still on the hair the same way but I can never get it to lift correctly...how could one do this and get a higher and a cooler lift???
