Thanks for the video. Interesting to note that this crankset is heavier than the previous generation's? Just for the looks you reckon?

    Hey @Jamesthebikeguy!
Do you know if 105 or higher chainrings would fit this crank?
I am aware of all the other 9 to 11 speed compatibility issues and components needed.
P.s. thanks for the detailed content on lower end groupsets, much appreciated!

I dont believe the chainrings would fit. You could swap the entire crank

@@Jamesthebikeguy Thanks! I believe you are correct. On closer inspection I can see that the contour above one *of the bolt holes is wave shaped on 105 and up.

@@Jamesthebikeguy is it still compatible with 9 speed if you swap the whole crank?

I have the Claris and it weighs in at a heavy 1087 grams bottom bracket not included. Planning on just going straight to a 105 crankset, for weight savings, can I just take out my current crank and replace it with the 105? I wouldnt be changing anything else as I am already satisfied with the weight of the other parts, just the crankset is really heavy for me,

I am in the process of adding this crankset to my road bike (3 x 9). I noticed that on the big ring, the teeth don't seem to be uniformly shaped ... I am used to seeing teeth (particularly on cassettes) that are almost a uniform shape, with each tooth having a sort of horizontal edge cut along along the top of the tooth ... with the big ring on my Sora crankset, the teeth are not at all uniform - some have the horizontal edge on the top, some are more curved, and some almost have a bit of a point on them (like you would see on a crankset where the teeth are completely worn down to a point, from excessive usage). Is this supposed to be this way, or is that a defect? Or is it simply the way things are with the lower level of quality control at the Sora price point?

That's 100% on purpose, those oddly shaped teeth are tied to the pickup and drop off points on a chain ring. They are what helps make it shift better.
