deep and dark trip hop, yet a unique voice like Bjork, good notice! I never thought of him like that till now. The generation was similar too. Great song.
Who is listening in 2020? Tricky´s Nearly God is my favorite album of all times. Pure piece of poetry and art. Keeps me quiet when i´m restless too.....love it!
"I rue the day that I ever met you, And deeply regret you getting close to me. I cannot wait to deeply neglect you, Deeply forget you, Jesus believe me, You promised me poems."
First time I heard this song just now.... Came here through a link from a Portishead song ' the Rip' ......which I came across watching BBC drama' Chloe' last night....so lucky to have such amazing culture and talent in the UK when it comes to music and TV. Love the Bristol scene.
Haven't listened to this for years - it's amazing. Reminds me of being 23, I moved from the city to a farm, I'd listen to this over and over alone and in the dark.
Less than 10 years later I worked in a bar in London. Terry Hall would spend hours sat there drinking coke and looking sad. Never occurred to me to tell how much I loved this. Funny ol' world.
I remember watching this video on MTV on alternative nation and I must have been like 15 and it was pretty shocking. Found it very violent and dark and grey. And me being south american, these cloudy british skies were really post apocalyptic for me. Utterly genius. For the record, ive been living in the UK for the last 13 years lol, something must have struck me somehow from these weird scenes.
@@jacquesmesrine8031 I see what you mean, I figured that you meant the vibe but I wanted to be sure. I agree that tone can feel violent too. There is something sinister about it. The same way I feel about all of Mezzanine.
From the album Nearly God (1996) one of the best songs of all time. It was the nineties of the 20th century, amazing times and Lucy who was a fan of Tricky music so much that she took my album and listened to it many times. RIP Lucy.
I never heard of Tricky when I was trying Owsley and Orange Sunshine back in the day. But I definitely could have trippeed to this song, for sure. Blessings to all who come here
I listened to that when I was 15 and I was on the bus going to holls in Italy . The bus drove into tunel in Alps... ) and all the lights were dancing with the Tricky beats.. Peramnent brain changes, From then on I knew Im gonna be making electronic music :)
There's this really cool group called Stereolab. I was working at this gas station doing graveyard shift and heard one of their songs on Dots and Loops. Been hooked ever since.
People, explain me plz. Why such an absolute genius as Tricky has so absolutely few views? Other artists whom i adore have millions and billions (Asap Rocky, for instance). Maybe because Tricky doesn't really love being famous and maybe not promotes his songs?
this was one of his best song when he was serious about his art before he decided to be a punk singer with a pub band . but yes he was in a class of his own in fact he was the most talented uk artist producer with his girlfriend martina 10 years ago
o tym utworze mozna wypowiadac się tylko i wyłącznie w samych superlatywach... jest genialny i doskonały.. wzrusza, hipnotyzuje, uzależnia, przywołuje wspomnienia GORGEOUS!!!
I saw Tricky 2 nights in a row in North Carolina, must have been '98. My friend and I were invited backsage. We chatted, smoked (Tricky rolled my weed with tobacco, as much as I hated tobacco I wasn't missing this chance). My friend was asked to go along with them for the next 3 shows. I've never met such a down to earth performer in my life.
one of my favorite songs. when i hear this song i think about the cd cover. i love how it's a little creepy yet alluring at the same time. i would want my music to sound like this.
When i was young i wanted to be tricky. I wanted to look like him, sound like him, think like him, write like him. He is absolutely amazing. Shit, i still do really.
Hubo un día que me quid quitar la vida y mientras esperaba viendo una preciosa puesta de sol sonaba Poema es decisión propia si lo volviese a hacer sonaría lo mismo con un te caliente . Buena transición gracias Tricky
I couldn't agree less...As a whole album Maxinquaye is magnificent...mostly because of Martina sirenesque singing and trick's simple, yet dreary production. "poems" stands out but Nearly God is nowhere near Maxinquaye.
Broken lovers laughing, crying pianos, dented silence, silver shivering nights. Feathers will never fly again. And still, so still, hungry days are waiting to be born.
Listening to this masterpiece in memory of Terry Hall, truly missed.

I have loved this song for decades, i'm 30 and I remember the first time I heard it....it was pure Magic!!! Tricky rules!!!
He's my male Bjork :)
They use to date back during pre millennium tension
That's the best association the male Bjork! Brilliant
deep and dark trip hop, yet a unique voice like Bjork, good notice! I never thought of him like that till now. The generation was similar too. Great song.
Still a masterpiece in 2019.
*forever
Still in 2021
Always a masterpiece. Timeless. A perfect combination of voices. Breathtaking.

That song always makes me sad, but the good kind of sadness, the one tainted with melancholy and peace
God I love Tricky, he's so unusually sensitive and paranoid.
Underrated 😂
"We were a pair of believers
A couple of dreamers"
So touching, I love it.
This is actually one of the greatest tracks of modern music!
love sometimes disappears
It honestly is. The more time that passes, the more sure of it I am.
I love this song and so glad I decided to look through his discography after listening to Maxinquaye. I wish this album was on streaming services!!!
You can always rip it :D
it is in streaming but under the alias "Nearly God" because the label wouldn't realized 2 albums in the same year with the name "Tricky"
"I rue the day that I ever met you,
And deeply regret you getting close to me.
I cannot wait to deeply neglect you,
Deeply forget you, Jesus believe me,
You promised me poems."
I keep coming back to this song!! Wow, his BEST song ever...Love Tricky!
This song is great for a good high :D

Violent how???
@@bluefilmsltd just the vibe mate. Violence doesn't have to be graphic all the time you know? Again, I was 15. I found it very unsettling

By the way, do you happen to know of the device that he is using at the beginning in the elevator? The thing with his mouth?@@jacquesmesrine8031
This has to be one of my favourite pieces of music ever.
This made me cry! And I'm 40! Stunning!!
From the album Nearly God (1996) one of the best songs of all time. It was the nineties of the 20th century, amazing times and Lucy who was a fan of Tricky music so much that she took my album and listened to it many times. RIP Lucy.
This song takes me way back on cassette. I'm a believer
I never heard of Tricky when I was trying Owsley and Orange Sunshine back in the day. But I definitely could have trippeed to this song, for sure. Blessings to all who come here
