Thank you Chuck for letting me be there at the Beacham Theater for the recording of this. Although it wasn't as nice as the 15+ times I was lucky enough to have seen you play live, I thank you for being cool to a 13-15 year old kid when you used to consider me a friend. I'll always be thankful for you asking my opinions, even if you were just doing it to make me feel like my opinions meant something when they obviously didn't. R.I.P. to the man that got me to realize that music is art and lyrics are not always meant to be taken literally. I'm 41 now and still miss you and your music, especially when I used to buy your old vinyl from the music store where we met...I bought it and listened to it all, just because it used to be yours. Those were the days when life was so simple... Take care, Chuck....
I met Chuck on the SOP tour. We told the crew guy outside the bus after the show that we'd driven for 9 hours to see Death, we were hoping to meet Chuck even for just a moment. He said "Well, he's in an interview, but hold on". He came back out with Chuck, who interrupted his interview to kick it with us for a solid half hour. Just standing there shooting the shit. One of the genuinely coolest, nicest people I've met, and still one of the best moments of my life.
+Mr. Painless85 They are full of shit! My ex-band opening for DEATH and I met Chuck numerous times. He was totally the coolest most chill dude ever and a musical genius! The real reason why Chuck's a douchebag to the "Leprosy" guys is because they're jealous! Yup, they're jealous that they weren't ever brilliant enough to create a genre in the history of metal music that started an entire movement around the world! Yes, they played on early DEATH albums, I'll give them that, but they're only haters because Chuck's legacy has and always will overshadow anything that they could every do without him.... They should be eternally grateful to him for giving them the opportunity as musicians to play on such amazing and brutal classic DEATH albums they were on!? RIP Chuck Schuldiner, thank you for those brutal years of musical Spiritual Healing!!
@novitec360 Chuck wasn't gay. That very ridiculous rumor is proof of the truthfulness of Chuck's saying that folks shouldn't believe rumors. Yes, we liked to constantly make sure our hair was cool. Yes we liked kittens. But Chuck had girlfriends throughout all the years I knew him. ERIC
I can sorta see what he mean, sometimes people with autism have an incredible focus in something, in this case would be his music, and chuck had some kind of "dreamy" of relaxed vibe. but thats just how he was, i dont think he had autism
alexisXcore93 I don’t think he was autistic. He was just a chill person and didn’t seem over obsessed with anything, even if he was that’s still normal
The band that is playing at the very start is Sortilège, from France - one of Chuck's favorite bands on earth. Second scene has the band Lush, who Chuck & I & Paul also worshiped. :) ERIC

Thanks for this Eric! What are your favorite Death tribute bands out there?
Haha, not really dude, if he spoke like he sang he'd scare away all the wildlife. :) Imagine him ordering food at a drive through in his singing voice!!! 😆🤣 I do get what you mean though, obviously. :)
Hi Everyone! This is just 3 minuets of over an hour of incredible video, shot by none other than Eric Greif, friend to Chuck, former manager of Death, part of the group ensuring that Chuck's/Death/Control Denied/Mantas Legacy is protected and continues, and more importantly, a valued member of our family Beth Schuldiner
You’re brother was a reincarnation of Mozart and was taken from us way too soon, but he has forever blessed us with his music and we’re lucky to have it. Chuck will always be a legend to the entire metal community. My only regret is never getting the chance to see him play.
@nathantim That's fucking ridiculous. Chuck always had a girlfriend. The rumor he was gay is totally stupid. I roomed with Chuck on the road or on trips around the world and we spent much of the time talking about women. ERIC GREIF (the guy who made this video)
Man oh man. You posted this 7 years ago, but I gotta ask: is it true Spirit Crusher was about an ex-girlfriend of his (Chucks’s) ? A guitar tech told me he knew it was .
Hi Eric (Greif). Well done and thanks, this video is forever in the heart of anyone who was lucky to be a metal fan back in 1992. I was only 15 years old and I remember how people in my school were REALY amazed from the "underground" feeling that this video brings, like beeing in the depths of a rough and dark neighborhood. It seems so "real" comperes to other death metal videos of that time - "the end complete" , "dead emryonic cells" or "world keeps turning". Instead of throwing money to make a beautiful image, its keeping a low profile so the music could talk. As meny others, it made me an instant death fan. Chuck's death was painfull to metal fans here, and some years ago there was a death tribute evening with the best local bands around. Omer, ISRAEL

+empire It's humbling to see he's not too far off from some of us local guys grinding it out, lol. Guy was always super humble. Hopefully that box of whammy bars made it okay.
Ya. Chuck didn't even make a lot of money. He only made about enough to provide for his daily human needs, but other than that, he didn't really live or make the money like a celebrity. He did it for one thing, the music. He loves it and didn't care if he didn't sell many records, he just enjoyed what he did and lived the fans. Now that is a true musician. And unfortunately he died of cancer and couldn't even pay $50,000 for his treatment fee. But no matter what he created death metal and was one of a kind! R.I.P. Chuck!!!\m/
Josh Armoogam Yeah its a sad story, but on the plus side, he's made lots of people happy and left a pretty awesome legacy. If he got sick today, he'd have been saved by crowdfunding.
lord dominicus he was born May 13 and I was born May 15th. I'm another note one of my favorite musicians Josh Homme was born ONE day after my birthday.
lord dominicus, you probably had some super cool dude born on your birthday (I also read this book that said May 15th was pretty much the day of Satan, I still can't find anything about it on the internet though. Actually I think it was just the whole week).
I'm very moved to see Chuck behind the the scenes..he mustn't have been ''evil'' chuck at all..he seems like a amazing person..only the good die young..
@iwillcommitdeicide Chuck certainly got stoned, but not that day. Definitely. But we did eat some brutal chicken wings after everything was finished. ERIC

Great! Seen them on this tour in Dublin. They nearly didn't make it, but caught a later ferry, and landed just in time to let loudblast play and then Death took to the stage
@sonicdeath24 The thing about it was that we were open minded enough to recognize unique music that had integrity, regardless of whether it was metal. Cool melodies and the ability to make us drift. If we liked it, we would admit it. ERIC
@orchardhill That's great! Lush was filled with great melodies, hooks and had a unique atmosphere to they're shoegazing sound. That musical open mindness you talk about clearly showed on Chuck's music and on Death, making it more diverse and great in general! Thanks for the reply and this awesome footage! :) It's all about good music! \m/
@HastaElDesmadre I ask Chuck: "Anything you want to say to the fans right now about how you feel Chuck?" (Sean Reinert then answers for him jokingly by saying "I'm only in it for the money!") And Chuck then responds about how he feels: "Kinda Sexy" - and we (me, Scott Carino, Paul Masvidal, and Sean Reinert) all laugh.
@orchardhill Hey Eric! Thanks for the response! Any response from someone like you is much appreciated! Chuck's blasting Sortilege in his car at the start. An awesome French metal band from the early 80's.

@MetalEradeGuerra It has been my sincere pleasure sharing this. It allows people to see Chuck as a human being...and a witty one, too.
Witty and very sexy.. I'm still drooling here.. x
The whole universe spins around Chuck from Death
It's almost shocking that his speaking voice is so drastically different than his singing voice

I know chuck used the Valvestate but what amps were used for the video? Doesn’t look the Valvestate.
How do we know you are really The Eric Greif ? To know such a thing.
I love Chuck❤
Three Marshall JCM 800 amplifiers and one Randall RG100ES with Marshall cabinets are used here. Chuck started using Valvestate only in 1993.
