    Before you chop it consider replacing the wagon side sliding glass windows with emu wings. They give you such good access and storage options. Do a rear quarter panel chop to protect the rear of panels from getting damaged off road

    Nice one Tyler. 👍 I can just imagine, all the people in the "black out everything" camp, screaming at their screens & running to grab their sunnies upon seeing your new grill. Blackout is so overrated. RGB headlights, & RGB rock lights next. What else? RGB whip/UHF aerial? 😁 I too have KAP Industries fire extinguisher holders on both front seats. That way, it does not matter which side you're on, you can quickly grab one. I also have a fire extinguisher mounted on my cargo barrier that is accessible from the back seat area & a fire blanket mounted on the end of my fridge in the wagon area. You can't have enough fire suppression gear, I reckon. 😁

    I think the vinyl vs carpet debate overlooks one aspect, if the vehicle gets flooded you're still going to need to remove the vinyl to get everything dry underneath. The vinyl will wear better with mud etc compared to carpet but either way it will require removal. Thanks for the content.

      The vinyl in his case will be better as he plans to do a lot of dirty weekender work in it. If he does flood it, yes it should come out but carpet will retain the smell and to get the smell out takes a lot more effort

  • @bears2604

    Don't know about the vinyl flooring. Water gets trapped under it gets moldy and stinks, I find carpet drys out because it can breath, be interesting to see what you think. Also a comparison between q & u also nav in terms of economy comfort capabilities, which feels better in bush on road ect etc would be interesting.

    • @Jacobtheunwise

      Takes a couple minutes to take the vinyl out and pressure wash it. Carpet stays forever smelly

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว

      Vinyl is king if you go anywhere near a beach. Carpet traps sand, allowing it to fsll through to the floor where it causes rust.

    • @bears2604
      @bears2604 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@gqwarrior6694 still get sand under my viny when im at the beachl, I just think when I had carpet that the water vacuums up and what doesn't drys out through the carpet as it breaths.

      @@Jacobtheunwise yeah that wasn't my experience with vinyl unfortunately. A couple of minutes! Wow your a very motivated and keen guy, with obviously more spare time on your hands than I have.

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bears2604 Sounds like you don't have a waterproof underlay beneath the vinyl. It is necessary because vinyl is much thinner than carpet so it needs to be raised up to stop sand getting between the vinyl & trim pieces.
      Have you removed your carpet to know it is dry or just feeling it from the top? If you have the factory underlay/deadner still installed, the carpet can feel dry but the underlay can remain wet underneath for years.
      I do lots of beach & mud driving so vinyl is the go for me but each to thier own. If carpet is good for you, more power to you.

    sick, def don't chop it, looking at a GQ for harder tracks myself at mo, torn between SWB or LWB like both, Id get a cargo barrier and install all ya 12v for accessories and ya sub so you can keep it up high but centered over the wheels away from water, def like you went vinyl floor, I think people use carpet as its easier to work with, but better to do it right first time. Good work this thing will be a weapon look fwd to seeing the rest, note they rust at the back heaps so get rid of that carpet.

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว

      Go the LWB imo. The extra space makes them so much more versatile even if you are solo. They are also much more stable than SWB.

    Just had an idea. All the mods to deal with water getting in to the car could possibly be iliminated by sealing the doors to stop the water getting through in the first place. Surely some serious tech for dealing the doors would be cheaper than all these mods. I realise that if you had a perfect seal the car would float and it would potentially lose grip in really deep water but hey a dry car inside.

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sealing up a GQ is damn near impossible. There are a number of drain bungs in the floor as well as the door seals that can let water in. If you get stuck for long enough, it doesn't matter how well it's sealed, water will find it's way in.

Don't get me wrong, I've watched every clip that you've done, and enjoyed the honesty that you've portrayed and love your family for sharing your interest. As a HJ61 owner, I can relate to this build a lot. I'm dreading the surprises I'll find when I pull up the old carpet. Having owned 6 Nissans prior, they did a better job with their metal treatment from factory back in the 80s/90s, Toyotas are terrible for rust. Their engines will go on forever whilst their body disappears around them. If you were going to chop it, what is the end goal for it seeing as you have the ultimate GU setup? Two person tourer or a light weight track monster?

    • @TylerThompson90
      @TylerThompson90  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah rust can be bloody annoying! The plan for the GQ is even harder tracks than the GU, have the GU as more the tourer/towing trailer but can obviously do proper tracks in it too. If the GQ gets too badly destroyed from hard tracks that's when I'll chop it and go even harder

  • @gqwarrior6694
    @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    So the lights aren't ADR approved. You will be blinding oncoming traffic with them man. Get rid of the stupid bloody things before the cops MAKE you get rid of them. The sound deadening will make some difference but it's a shame it wasn't done properly. Good you're doing some stuff to it but I was expecting better

    • @josephreid7012

      What’s your version of properly?

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@josephreid7012 To get maximum weight you need minimal gaps. Pretty much shouldn't be able to see any of the floor, especiallyover the transmission tunnel. Rear gaurds needed to be covered fully. You also need to get it as far up the firewall as possible. The rear quarters & ALL the doors need to be done, not just the front doors. Not doing those is a huge oversight. If the job is really being done properly the pillars & roof would be done but not many go that far unless they are competing in sound offs. Given how ineffective those little kicker
      sub/amp combos are, it needed to be done right. He may not admit it publicly but I KNOW Tyler would have been expecting better results than he got.
      EDIT: Forgot to add that it's a cardinal sin to run a power cable next to rca's or speaker wires. Can cause interference througg the speakers running off the amp. Sorry but the quality of the work is sub par.

    Mine was leaking when I got it through the front window on both sides what it was is they never sealed the window after putting the window in 100% guarantee that's what it would be I'd take it to a window place and get it sealed

    • @gqwarrior6694
      @gqwarrior6694 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The leaking is almost always caused by failure to replace the single use rubber seal around the windscreen or failure to properly clean the metal surface before installing the new seal. They are not designed to use sealant & as long as there's no rust around the area the seal seats, none is required. If you do feel the need to add sealant it is easily done by lifting the edge of the seal with a butter knife then running the knife along the seal while applying a very thin bead of silicone. Wipe off the excess silicone with methylated spirits.
