  • From the James Cordon Late Late Show on July 23, 2018, Grace delivers a powerful and captivatingly energetic WOW performance, with exquisite guitar, synth and drums backup. This is a must-see for anyone looking for brilliant writing, singing and performing. It is just plain FUN!

Natural born performer is spot on. I just discovered Grace about a year and a half ago , her audition popped up on my recommendations . After watching the audition I was intrigued because there was just something so different about her compared to all the other auditions I watched. Then I watched her first live performance, Beautiful Thing, and I was like ok this girl is special. After I was done watching her finale performance of Clay I looked at my wife and said this girl was born to do this , we are watching something that may only come around once or twice in a lifetime. I still stand by that statement and if anything it may have been an understatement.

People may have groused that the Imagine Dragons tour really didn't expand her fanbase as much as some might have hoped, but what it certainly did was open up her stage presence. Even if some people were still wandering to their seats, Grace played to the whole audience, and used all the stage that she could. This Cordon appearance, right in the middle of tour, showed her really own the stage for the first time on a TV performance.

In my opinion this is Grace's best live performance of Escape my Mind

This again is a perfect example of raw talent’. Grace ‘delivers’ every time! she is a singer who can actually sing live better than a recording! name me anyone in the charts who can do this ...???

That was an award winning performance. The audience went crazy whenever she started dancing. And brother did she belt out that song. Her face is captivating, her voice hauntingly beautiful and her spirit over the top. In Nov 2019 she did another performance on the show, I Don't like You and they went absolutely crazy. Grace gave another stellar performance, please check this out Dax, th-cam.com/video/A9YybeCb9cw/w-d-xo.html Don't feel alone Dax, I'm in my mid 70's and I have never been taken by an artist like I am with Grace.

Ron, I totally agree, of course! Yes, I love that performance of “I don’t like you” on the James Corden show and I did a reaction on it a couple of months ago. Thanks!

There are no wasted words in Grace's songs. There are no words there to just fill a space.

My favorite performance of hers! Totally entertaining and captivating. That was an all adult crowd going nuts for Grace. Another really awesome performance of Grace's is "Stray live at the Slipper Room". At the end she appears to come out of a trance!! I think you would love it. Thanks once again Dax. You're always on point.

This is your most excellent reaction so far. People that don't know or follow Grace are missing sooooooooo much. That performance just blew my mind the first time I saw it, and it blew my mind again this time. Thank you sir. Yeah, 14. That's the mind blower. Dax, I'm still amazed that you don't play an instrument. You just have that musician type of feel to your reactions. I'm telling you, if you played any type of instrument you'd be even more amazed at her genius. The chord progressions and arrangements are not meant for a 14yr old to figure out. And that performance. You can't teach people that. Thanks for making me watch this again. Great reaction.

Trip, thanks very much, my friend! My grandfather played the piano professionally and I almost got into the piano and guitar at a young age but never got around to it, though my daughter and I are thinking about doing it soon. I truly regret it and wish I knew more about music and instrumentation than I do, so I could do even more professional reactions. Yes, Grace is so natural and ingenious, and I know she is much more so on levels that I don’t even understand. Thanks again!

Also fantastic, Grace's band was performing and not the house band - and Melissa, Ben, and Dylan were all on point. But yeah - Grace flat out owned that stage!

Wait, you haven't seen this before? Did you hear that crowd? Loved Corden's response. But in earlier interviews she said it was just about her inability to get to sleep because she can't turn her brain off. I think the relationship stuff was just added later. I doubt she had a relationship when she was 13.

Couple of favorite spots: 4:24 when each shoulder shrugs in perfect timing to the keyboard beat. & at 4:43 with that glorious scream.

The way she uses ‘baby’ and ‘honey’ like an adult, I’ve commented on that before too. I like it. And you’re the first person I’ve heard notice that and say something. Guess what song she first does that in?... Clay. At 12!! “try to change my shape, but baby, I’m not clay”. I think she does it in “Just A Crush” as well. The way she expresses it is totally how someone older would say it. And it’s not just to say it or fill a verse, it’s got a nuance she’s trying to get across. Hard to explain, but it works great. It’s kind of used in a scoldy, condescending, but motherly, let ‘em down softly sort of way. Kinda complex actually. Just like our little genius.

    • @daxmusix
      @daxmusix  4 ปีที่แล้ว

Tony, so interesting that you noticed that also about baby and honey. It says a lot about her mature mindset, how she sees the world. I don’t remember when I first noticed it, but I talked about it at 19:35 in my reaction on clay from AGT, which you mention.

Hehehe...I was wondering when you'd get to this performance. This is by far one of the fan favs, can't react to Queen G and not react to this one. Great reaction, btw. What always gets me is her smile at, "...but honey, this is happening..." 😊

☑️ This is one of my favorite live GV performances. Her performance of Best Friend in Syracuse, NY is probably my favorite. Her performance of A Better Life in Austin, Texas also ranks right up there. Great reaction, Dax, of the amazing Grace VanderWaal’s performance.

Grace VanderWaal Interview 3 days after her AGT audition aired. Grace says in the interview that the show she won the Golden Buzzer was recorded in March of that year. She had to not say anything for months before it aired.

I really think that you should have used the version from Austin City Limits 7th October 2017, its a real crack up as she forgets where she is in the song. Grace makes a recovery that is so professional.. I still laugh every time I see it.

I am an all- in Grace music fan, but I am a hesitant to call her a genius. I think her talent is being very discerning, knowing what is good. She writes a lot sometimes before she gets something "worthy". If you have an hour and want to be floored by a legitimate genius little girl, Alma Deutscher well worth the time. Watch her "Finding Cinderella " documentary.
