    “Little do we know that trying to stay young is what is making us grow old.” What a line. Grace is saying that fretting over the future and the past blinds one to all the beauty that life presents to us every moment of every day. Better to just live in the moment because living this way allows one to appreciate life on a deeper and more meaningful level. Grace is a poet as much as she is a musician. Shades of Bob Dylan.

    It always makes me feel so good to watch your reactions to Grace. People that don't know Grace really need to watch your reactions to her. Your breakdown of her lyrics are very insightful and very much appreciated. I also mentioned your shout out to Fable on a comment at his channel. Both of you really understand Grace and fully put into words what the whole world should hear.

      Trip, thanks very much. The world simply HAS to know about Grace. I appreciate your shout-out to Fable. I’ve commented a few times on his channel complementing him for his superlative analysis and spot-on comments. Love his British humor! I’m glad there are people like you and Fable and many of my subscribers and perhaps millions of others who really get Grace and love her. Thanks again my friend.

    Grace is a ‘savant’ a “visionary” able to see things that others can’t a “connection” with her environment
    I’ve felt this to through my life this “connection” have you ever stood in a wood or a forest and closed your eyes and just.. “feel”.. there is something else...

      reflexxtr ... Yes, I have felt that and I think a lot of others have, especially those who connect with Grace and her music. I have felt this sort of deep ambient bond to life and never lost it. I connect with Grace and her music at some level that is almost surreal. Thanks

    Wonderful, Dax! You are one insightful and knowledgeable guy. Thanks for letting me sit for a while behind your eyeballs and behind your eardrums. I agree totally with your insight. Grace does have a rare talent for juxtaposing fantasy against reality in a way that few have ever possessed.

    • @daxmusix
      @daxmusix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WDCousins, thank you. Doing reactions has been a bit of a humbling experience. I seem to be quite a bit more eloquent in my mind while I’m on the couch watching Grace and other great performers. But being in front of the camera can sometimes momentarily yank the mind out of those creative depths at the most inopportune moment. 😉 Thanks again.

    The first time I heard Lungs was your reaction of the song. This song is so complex and yet it was written by a child. Just listen to the power of her lungs and vocals. She always brings tears and goosebumps.

  • @bobtausworthe
    @bobtausworthe 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    This is the greatest song of Grace's that we will never hear her sing live. She doesn't seem to consider her bonus songs as candidates for her concerts. I think I heard her talk about it. The songs themselves were selected from the many songs she wrote that didn't make into Just the Beginning . So Lungs and Hope for Change are Honerable Mentions. Plus since they are not on all albums she feels it's not fair to play them or something.

  • @kasimier-buchcik
    @kasimier-buchcik 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Great audio experiment! Reminds me of old Chaplin movies, just without the background music. I'm confident that it was very intersting from the way your face moves :-) Cheers.
    For me Lungs + Hope For Change is located in the cherry of her cakes - music and lyrics wise.

  • @pauldhoff
    @pauldhoff 4 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    To be honest, when I got the my second copy Of Just The Beginning CD from Target it was to get the 2 extra songs, the other one didn't have the extra tracks. Lungs was one of those tracks. It was the first time that I had heard the song and it took sometime for it to grow on me. I love the song now. If I had to rate the songs of Grace's it would be close to the top of the songs. For me now, Darkness and Today and Tomorrow are at the top, with Tomorrow just winning out. Tomorrow hits home for me because of losing my wife Lorraine. At the end seeing Stargirl's office hits me hard, because to me it shows the lose of her moving on, like my wife's office which was not near as beautiful as Stargirl's.

    Lungs is a weird one. Practically my favorite too. But it comes with great mystery. Except for one little skit of her going into a Target telling us to go there and buy her album with the bonus tracks, she never even alludes to the song again. Not by name, not by anything. Three years and nothing. None of us understand why, and she has never explained it

    Dax - the sound was a bit more than 'off' this time - even with the headset and mike on your voice was so quiet in comparison to the clip it was very distracting. The reaction/commentary was quite good. And at this point, you and Fable are my favorite "reactors"; in quotes because I value the commentary so much more than what run-of-the-mill reactors bring, and you are both excellent at this.

    • @daxmusix

    Absomazing! So much to say, so brevity, brevity... #1 I like Fable a lot, too. He gets Grace, which surprised me at first. But please remember, you have to be you. #2 While Lungs is not near to my favorite Grace song, (I know, I know, it's not the most popular position to take) your analysis did help me appreciate it more. #3 Their is still a mystery for me with this song: If the air is filling her lungs, why is "autumn filling your lungs"? I have a few theories, but I'd like your thoughts. #4 From the Knit Pick Dept. I still don't think that is a steel guitar. I believe it is a regular electric guitar with the tremolo turned on on the electronics (amplifier). Stay safe.

    • @daxmusix
      @daxmusix  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Neil, thanks! I’m not real sure about the autumn reference, though I thought it was simply a specificity to the kind of air, with perhaps a suggestion it wasn’t quite as vibrant as spring or summer. Don’t know. You are right. I should’ve said electric guitar. Damn. LOL thanks my friend!

    • @neilmikesell6075
      @neilmikesell6075 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@daxmusix One thought I had was that it was a reference to the "making us grow old" theme. "You're already breathing in the autumn, late in the year (i.e. life) air." Or perhaps, as you said in a reply, stale, stodgy air because autumn is when things die or go dormant. Just one thought.

    Thought provoking, as usual, Dax. "Trying to be young is what is making us grow old." Wait. Old can be great. It's important to reclaim words used pejoratively: alone, beastly, old. Of course, Grace's language isn't mine, which is fine, as with any person I meet. My task is to respond to what prompts your words, even when your words and views are not mine. No problem.
