Thank you for this tutorial. So many VCV tutorials load up on the non-vcv modules right away. I really appreciate the basic approach. Thank you!

By far the best and clearest introduction to this amazing instrument. Thank you and much respect.

I had been using Grayscale's Permutation sequencer for this......glad to know you can do it with stock vcv rack as well!

Excellent video, I've really enjoyed all your VCV tutorials! I'm a little confused though as to how the second LFO you added is restricting the range of notes generated by the random module. Is the frequency of that LFO arbitrary, as the voltage of the VCA seems to be the important part?

Good question, I may not have explained this clearly enough. The LFO basically outputs voltages between -10V and +10V. When you patch this to the input on the random module it will replace it's internal voltage generator and it will function like a 'sample & hold' circuit, thus sampling the LFO output voltage the moment a trigger is received. The VCA simply restricts the output voltage of the LFO and therefore reducing the output range of voltages. For more randomness you could use a white noise generator instead of an LFO. Hope this helps!
