I actually wish on the Conquest route that you occupy Hoshido permanently, rather than Xander relinquishing control after Garon's death. The siblings and the avatar become proper lords of the newly conquered country, ending the anarchy and rivalry of the ninja clans. The path isn't called Conquest for nothing.
Yeah, once Ryoma and Takumi were... *removed* from Hoshido, I had thought that we would end up the rightful King of Hoshido. But... alas not. :x

The part about Hinoka is so true sadly she is rarely talked about
Which really sucks, because she. Is. AWESOME.
She was one of the last characters to be implemented into the plot. Originally she and Kagero were switched during development, the creative team thought 2 royals who entire personality was defined by their "bouncy" personalities was too much so they were switched and the first few chapters were rewritten. This is why Corrin is such a sarcastic quip fountain for the first 4 chapters of the game and stone faced for the rest of it and Kagero is always captured by Mokushu in all 3 routes. It's also why Hinoka has no plot relevance in Birthright after chapter 10 aside from a "by the way I'm still here guys" every once in a while
The game rarely allows her to talk, so what can you do?
Actually like hinoka i married her in birthright but meh thats just me. I felt like choosing nohr would hit her the hardest but nope pretty much killed the pineapple

To my understanding, Hinoka was the one created late in development... apparently the artist just doodled her in his spare time, liked her design, and asked that she be put into the game - I don't know if he was the one who requested it or not (your statement about the sheer similarities being TOO strong has some merit, at least), but either way she replaced Kagero as the elder princess of Hoshido... Speaking of which, I think that originally, Camilla wasn't INTENDED to have such a large breast size - apparently they were worried she looked far older than she actually is (at most, I think she's in her early 20s), which might also be why she actually does have a youthful face and such.
Back on the Hinoka/Kagero thing, it's definitely interesting to wonder about how certain plans had changed in development... especially since Kagero actually looks like Mikoto, which possibly suggests that Corrin/Kamui was actually meant to be Sumeragi's blood child. Whether this would mean Sumeragi had multiple wives (at once, or at different points in his life as is now canon), or concubines like Garon I don't know; it's interesting to consider, though... Apparently, not only was Corrin's default look once black-haired like Mikoto, but s/he might have NOT been customisable but set like most Lords in the series (so perhaps he was meant to be originally male unfailingly, before becoming an Avatar/My Unit...); makes you wonder whether the shapeshifting aspect was also always there or not, given that outside of Chapter 5 it never comes up in the STORY.
What other changes came up, I wonder - like, say, were Saizo and Orochi originally Kagero's retainers? Because that WOULD explaining why they were recruited alongside each other in multiple routes along with Saizo rescuing Kagero AND the fact that Orochi and Kagero are BFFs (perhaps they were meant to be master-servant and friends similar to Sakura and Hana); it would also posit that perhaps Reina was a late-story addition (though it would not explain who, if anyone was Ryoma's retainers originally... I dunno, I'm brainstorming here!) I think there probably ended up being even more characters than was originally planned - the writer of the original draft went all-out, and not only were his drafts BIGGER than intended, but either he (or someone else) added the third route when it wasn't part of the original plan...
Along with the Kagero/Hinoka switch in development, other (mostly) confirmed changes are:
* Hisame was to be Hinata's twin; changed to his son, because there be too many 1st-Generation Samurai as a result.
* Takumi at one point was to have a shade of red hair, probably to highlight resemblance to his sisters.
* The game originally wasn't carved-out into separate versions, but had all three routes playable at the start. Besides MONEY, reasons why this was changed (not giving REV right away, which falls flat since they could've just... I dunno, made it ONLY UNLOCKEABLE IF YOU FINISHED THE OTHER TWO FIRST! Apparently, doing something like in FE7 never occurred to them... unless it did. -.-)
* Dummied-out data suggests that several of the Capture-command Boss units (I think Nichol and Candace?) were originally meant to be regular recruitable units...
* And finally, there are hints that a female Kana would've had (dummied out) Supports with Azura as her mother, which like Corrin's Supports with Azura would have differed between the story/route change...

Present Leo: We had a f*ck ton of half brothers and sisters, who all lived with us at dad’s place. And my GOD we were motherlicking adorable!
For the most part, we tolerated each other, however sometimes we got on each other’s nerves. In my defence, she would not let go of that plate. Of course there was one that one half-brother…
Ah never mind!
Anyway, one day I went along with dad to a diplomatic trip to Hoshido. You see, Hoshido use to be a great independent nation led by a great man. There was only one flaw: his son.
Takumi: I can live entirely on a diet of crayons and lighter fluid!
Leo: After one tragic slip-and-slide accident I decided we should return home.
(Flashback of Flora burning alive with Takumi holding a fuel tank instead of a water tank.)
Leo: Only to find out that the queen of Hoshido had gone and gotten herself shot!
Mikoto: That’s nuts!
Leo: From there I was sent back Hoshido, where I thought my father would miss me.
Garon: “What was I thinking about just now? Something about Hoshido…”
We’re taking over Hoshido!
“Boo yah!”
Leo: Meanwhile, Takumi was determined when he grew up to win the war between Hoshido and Nohr. Unfortunately he signed up for the wrong side.
Azura: Not surprised.
Leo: Yes but what is surprising is that even with Takumi on their team the Nohrians somehow won. Which brings me to today.
Long story short: there’s some remnants of an underground Nohrian rebellion,
Ryoma: If anyone wants a pizza dumpling send me a letter and I’ll give you some.
Leo: There’s still some Nohrian soldiers occupying the country,
Effie: Dude, you thinking what I’m thinking?
Benny/Effie: PIZZA DUMPLINGS!
Leo: And finally there are some Hoshidan forces which look up to me after Iago went and killed himself.
Azura: I thought you killed him.
Leo: Eh details.
Azura: We’ll I guess that covers about everything.
Leo: Yep! No gaping plot holes at all!
Azura: But-
Leo: At all!
(Leo and Azura stare at each other)
