I harvested my first seeds this year and floated them as per one of your videos so I now have wee little seedlings to plant.👍😊 I can hardly wait to see how many survive and provide beautiful blooms. Thanks for all the invaluable knowledge you share here on YT. 🙂
That's what I figured. My seeds have rooted and are starting to send out shoots. I'm raising them outside, as it will be only as cold as high 60's this week, so I think they will be just fine. Thank you!
Thankyou so much for sharing! Question, if you dont mind. Would the first, second, and third year plants/bulbs overwinter in a climate like our midwestern Indiana ?
The only way you could grow them under your winter conditions would be to mulch them heavily. Even then I question if they can survive your winter temperatures. You could plant them on the south side of a building and then mulch them heavily. You could always throw an extra blanket over them when needed.
Hi! I wonder if you check your comments on your videos because I have a question - I have the ''white star'' variety and I heard it is very rare. Is that true? I had to research deep to find out what kind of plant it was, as I had no idea, didn't even look like an amaryllis, more like an narrow orchid. My plant is 7 years old and it bloomed for me once last summer. Now it is producing side bulb "babies". I would like to sell them, is it worth to go through the trouble? Would people care to buy? And will the original mother plant produce another flower since it is now busy making baby bulbs? I have never let this plant go dormant, it is gorgous and HUGE!
What if you have one or rather two that have never bloomed. I live on the East Coast in FL and I got two of them from a friend about three years ago. They were in two separate pots and once I took the time to find out what they were I planted them in the ground in April. I had green leaves but they all died off. I now have green leaves again but no sign of a flower. Should I plant them back in a pot?
Amaryllis require three to four years of grown before they are ready to flower. You might check the ph. of the soil. Amaryllis require slightly acidic soil. that's about the best I can tell with the information you have given me. thank-you
When I was a garden writer I crossed a number of Amaryllis seeds for fun. This winter I had an inadvertant cross between 3 possible parents: Papillio, Pasadena (dble) and Naughty Lady. After drying the mature seeds, I added them to a small bag of damp potting soil, double bagged in sandwich bags, then put them in a lidded pot on my kitchen cupboard to sprout. April 17th. Today July 26th I planted the 30+sprouted seeds in garden soil mix . Bloom in 4 yrs - Is 2 possible?
Do you think I'd be able to eventually plant mine outside? I have sprouts now, and I'm talking in a few years. I live in Northwestern New Jersey. Would it get too cold?
hi so not only the red one produce seeds? cause I have many types of amaryllis but only the bulbs with the red flower only make seeds after the flower is dryed out.. the other bulbs with the different type of flower never produce seeds after the flower is dryed out.. when i told some gardiners thy told me cause the bulb with red flower is the original the others are hybirds but from this vid I can see that you white one produce seed too
You did not state where you lived. Wait until warm weather and pot them individually. amaryllis are slow growers so it will take 2-3 years for them to bloom. Fertilize them with a water soluable fertilizer weekly. You might consider planting the seedlings in an outside flower garden depending upon your climate. Amaryllis will survive with heavy mulching in the winter. Visit our ebay store at stores.ebay.com.Amaryllis-Man for other helpful information

I have them in an envelope but they seem to be dry enough because they have busted open in the pod and I am in New Orleans weather and they have been on the plant about 2 weeks now. I think it's white star _ it is white with very narrow leaf on bloom, spider like and very long inside spikes. I have pictures if you care to see...

What is the black netting above the plants for? To shield it from the full strength of the sun?
Gracias!
Yes, I think it might get too cold. They might survive with six to eight inches of mulching.
Good morning, how much is a kilogram of amaryllis seeds?
Very nice video! Thanks for making it!
