27 years ago this man saved my life from an attack on a trail at night with his book The Gift of Fear. I immediately used the things he said on intuition when a man was hiding in a tree and accidentally fell down. In his book he talked about this gut feeling almost like butterflies that told me to get out. If I would have disregarded this feeling… anyways weeks later this guy was arrested and convicted in several rapes. Ottawa Ontario.
I read his book at around the same time you did, and have applied it many times. The key point of the book is to heed your own instincts, to which I would add my own experience: that people who resemble each other act like each other (towards you).

@Ben Neumann because it's the truth. Granted you probably aren't important enough to be monitored and exploited but if you want to stay truly safe from manipulation, then yeah say all conversations on a phone as like your saying out loud because it is traceable at any given moment.
All I'm getting from this is if government's really wanted to go after drug cartels, keep drugs out of prisons and trace money laundering they could. CA has 500 police agencies, about 30 state prisons, etc ( the economy would collapse ).
A big part of the system of keeping 3rd world countries poor and exploitable is laundering money from corruption and crime and injecting it directly into the economy of world powers like US or UK. There is a documentary here on TH-cam called 'spider's web british second empire' or something like that that goes in depth. Drug cartels are definitely part of the system, there is a famous case where a bank (I think it was citybank) was caught laundering money for Colombian cartels to transfer it into the US and literally no one got arrested, just got a small fine.
That's not the same. Hacking a target requires knowing a target, but in case of drug cartels, the leaders obviously try to remain anonymous, and use more secure channels than regular phones

I am both fascinated and terrified by what Gavin has to say and the implications it has for society at large. Bottom line is, if you use technology, you waive your rights to privacy. Period. 🙄 This has made me look at smartphones and internet-connected tech in a very different light!
I use to be a manager at Sprint. When someone losses there phone or it gets stolen we can track it and see exactly where it's at on or off. We can also see all your texts and calls even after they are erased. All apps, pics, data and personal info we can access through our database. We can mirror your phone and watch what you or someone is doing on your phone in real time. Just imagine what the government can do if a cell phone provider can do this...... This isn't a back door. Apple doesn't make backdoors. This is an exploit. A backdoor is leaving your keys under your carpet incase you lose it. An exploit is someone picking your lock to open it.
I was very impressed with the way he differentiated exploits between apps. Something you probably know but most people do not know is that the majority of exploits are very program and program version specific. Joe seemed to have a good grasp on this.

Exactly. Cloning phones has come a long way from what it was a few years ago and they can see everything you can see on your phone so encrypted apps make no difference at all. What's app ,signal etc are all useless if you get targeted with Pegasus or stuff like that

@@AbolishtheNFA heard of the recent HAFNIUM Exchange exploits? Log4j? There are no shortage of exploits where a device or piece of software is vulnerable as it sits, and exploiting that vulnerability requires no interaction or action taken on the device or software itself. @@SC-gm3ry I just looked it up myself because I was very curious and thought the no click claims were bullshit. "What about the de-Googled phones?" No. Once you put apps on it you have compromised it. Just continue using whatever phone you prefer, keep it updated and don't consider the data on it as completely private. As An IT professional, I agree w/ most of the high level discussion here. I do recommend taking some of the details discussed w/ a grain of salt however. Hacking is not magic, even for governments.
Ye I'm deeply skeptical of the "they enter a phone number and get in your phone" part. That would imply there has to be a hidden backdoor and it is cross platform. That's not something that would go unnoticed. All these tools for spying rely on exploiting vulnerabilities in software. That's what happened with bezos, the malicious file sent to him contained an exploit that used an unpatched flaw to download a tool to the phone. Older versions of android and iOS are unsafe because of unpatched flaws like that. There is an Android Security Patch Level for a reason, for example. You can check it in your OS information. Of course there are still flaws in apps and malicious apps too. But basically, even the government has to rely on finding zero days for this shit, or they might get lucky if their target is using an outdated, vulnerable device.
What can we do……………..they literally GOT the richest man in the world ….our only hope is that we are a nobody and they don’t care about nobodies . They’re only interested in the somebodies .
What I learned: *don't use Whatsapp iPhones* Pegasus 1 requires the user to click on something Pegasus 2 doesn't require any interaction from user - it's an instant malware that self-deletes after a few days of inactivity from the target user If a government has your phone number, they have full control of your data.

No. Once you put apps on it you have compromised it. Just continue using whatever phone you prefer, keep it updated and don't consider the data on it as completely private. Which means, no nudes, no vids, no text conversations that would get you in trouble.
Staying private is like getting a lock system for your house. Considering phones have different storage capacities and different amount of that storage is used, his answer would be a fair one.
So as we’re looking at a digital ID and currency system, this is the nail in the coffin.
Cybersecurity industry will have lots of growth.
Crypto as we know it has no future. Any "digital" currency that exists as a standard in the future will not be crypto, of any kind that we have now.

@@jonathansoko1085 It will change over time, but still be crypto. Like the early versions of anything it will be different than what we know it now just like the internet.
@@BattleBrotherCasten He's talking about the process of Decentralization and encryption. After what the EU just passed yesterday he's not far off. Governments and illicit actors are trying their hardest to move towards CBDCs through the FED.
I used to work at a cell phone store. Every week I had someone come and swearing their phone was hacked. I explained to them it isn’t hacked 1) they just don’t know how to work their phone and 2) they are not important enough to be hacked.
After awhile I had to stop telling them that because they were getting offended so I pretended to un hack the phone and they were happy and at times even gave me some extra money for the work lol sooooo, idk 🤷♂️
What made them think they were hacked specifically? Just curious
I love this comment lmao 🤣
Yep, same with me working in IT. Both phones and computers, 99% it was user error, or an update lol.
Same guys who think the delivery vans that frequent their neighborhood are the CIA.
One of the most important interviews ever! Thank you🤙
Gonna have to go watch the full episode. This guy is fascinating and engrossing and what he’s saying is terrifying.
Pretty funny how phones are also manufactured now so we can't remove their batteries anymore. Always connected.
AND WITH BOTH FRONT AND BACK CAMERAS. I WAS THINKING OF THIS THE OTHER DAY. WE ARE ALWAYS BEING WATCHED.
💯
You can remove the batteries. You’ll just have to glue the screen back in.

I watch every available video on Gavin De Becker. The man is brilliant.
This guy knows way too much and I am here for it
He knows so much, that most of what he knows isn't real or possible.
@@stapleman007 Agreed. This dude was getting a boner from big Joe's look of fear so he stretched the truth
Everytime he scratched his face he was stretching it

if you're really that concerned, keep your phone in a signal blocking bag when you're not actively using it
What if the government hacks the bag
The full interview was amazing, definitely the best interview in quite sometime. I particularly loved when this guy described a 'Joe Roganism'. Mad props!!!
This video is 5 star 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 great. Glad to always be on the channel 🌠
Simple response to government asking why I need encryption is to ask the government to hand over all their secret documents and communications to the public, if they got nothing to hide.
Fun fact: In Yugioh, Pegasus had the Millenium Eye which could see your opponents cards
That's our problem. We just need to enable trap cards on our phones. Check it out, it's under settings.

Worked for a financial institution. Im shocked at the number of our customers who fell for scams a d being convinced to download an app that gave the scammers direct access to their phones/computers. Not the first time i heard about this no click access but still amazed at this technology.
as a general rule of thumb 9/10 customer support agencies will never ask for remote desktop access. and to add another general if they're insisting and they're Indian .. beware😂
As An IT professional, I agree w/ most of the high level discussion here. I do recommend taking some of the details discussed w/ a grain of salt however. Hacking is not magic, even for governments.
Pegasus is some evil shit but it is not as capable as he makes out here.
What this guy is saying is like how hacking works in movies. Hard to imagine the makers of these phones and the software are this incompetent.
yeah that guy did not talk like a security expert.
@@JDela10 there no hidden backdoor. Just a warm welcoming mat for that program.
I feel like a lot of us after watching this clip, will just go, “Oh no, (how could they do this to our privacy)!! Anyways…”
What can we do……………..they literally GOT the richest man in the world ….our only hope is that we are a nobody and they don’t care about nobodies . They’re only interested in the somebodies .
not "they" (whoever that is) do this to us, we do it to ourselves by buying and using the product...

Would love to see a cyber-security expert on after listening to Gavin's take on Pegasus 2
You need to get Rob Braxman on!
So all you have to do is not use your phone for a couple of days and Pegasus 2 will self destruct. Seems simple enough 😅

Great book.
I recommend this to every person!
The owner of AMD never had a phone or computer.....now we know why.
No internet
What I learned: *don't use Whatsapp iPhones*
Pegasus 1 requires the user to click on something
Pegasus 2 doesn't require any interaction from user - it's an instant malware that self-deletes after a few days of inactivity from the target user
If a government has your phone number, they have full control of your data.
“Hey Siri! Is Pegasus 2 on my phone?”
“Uhm, It’s currently clear and 45 degrees. “
