My Sicilian Mother grew up here, on 2nd st. between Bond and Hoyt. It was called "South Brooklyn" back in those days. I spent many Sundays here with my Grandmother. Good memories of a beautiful neighborhood!

The common thread among all of these block by block videos seems to be that housing prices and rental prices are climbing... that's not good for the city. If every nook and cranny of NYC gets gentrified, it'll be very difficult to undo and it'll be a very bland and undesirable city. Lawmakers should be taken steps to at least partially preserve the culture and history of the neighborhoods along with landlords through rent controlled units.

They never said those things when communities of one ethnicity moved in, let’s not be hypocritical. The Italians were once part of that gentrification.

The reason the mom and pop shops closed is, people went from buying 5 pounds to an 8th of a pound. Woman went into my friends father's deli and said can I have an 8th of a pound of bologna. He said, lady it costs me more to switch on the machine. Yuppies destroyed what was there. There are a new bunch, a lot of artist and I love them. They get the naybe. I lived there till I was 30, I couldn't afford to live there as an adult. some of my friends were lucky enough to because their families held on to the houses. I go back often just to smell the brownstone when it's wet with rain. A dose of home.

It's true. I would leave work on Broadway at 430, my friends who also lived down there would meet up and we would walk over the bridge to home. We'd eat in Almontaser, meet friends going down Court Street, I'd get home by 2 AM.

Totally destroyed by Uber rich yuppies buying brownstones for 4 mil then gutting them out for another 2 mil or so , they rebuild it to some type of glass enclosed Mansion that removes the aesthetic of the building, basically destroying the brownstone. It’s ridiculously expensive here.

Need those mom and pop stores to survive . Makes each area special instead of corporate chains everywhere that has no charm

Overpriced, overhyped, the new residents are snobby, there is a Federal agent that has lived on a block for years. The old residents used to appreciate him there. Now recently they left a note on his windshield asking why he is parking his govt car on the block. Mom and pop shops have closed because the new resents have imported upper Manhattan here. It’s all about the $$$$$. If you don’t want to know your neighbors and want to spend over 4 mil for a house just to gut it out and put in another 2 mil come on over !,

Once the liberals (yuppies) invaded the neighborhood it lost so much culture. I still live here but its not the same at all I feel like I live in Seatle, Wash or the Greenwich Village its disgusting. Miss old school Brooklyn when everyone knew each other and we were like one big family. Its the best neighborhood in Brooklyn but it has changed tremendously.

😂😍It is a beautiful bridge indeed... but when I saw it I thought to myself: Wow... so small... I had the impression it would be bigger... I'm from Rio de Janeiro and here we have the Rio Niteroi bridge (about 14 kilometers long) which makes this bridge look a Culvert....
