    I've seen a lot of professionals from strength coaches to bodybuilding coaches like Hany Rambod, Charles Glass, Charles Palanquin. But none of them even come close to Mr. Tom Purvis'knowledge of strength training. Tom Purvis to me is a resistance training guru!

    Alan Aragon brought me to this. And by god I’ve never had a more sympathetic response to a video. How our trainees view us is by far one of the most important topics to talk about. This is why it’s so difficult to coach a family member or fiancée.

    Dude! I'm so happy you're back on TH-cam making videos again, I was bummed out when the videos stopped coming in 3 years ago 😂. Your content is amazing. I'm in my 4th year of my kinesiology degree now and I loved watching your videos going through school. They helped a tonne for personal training/my own training as well.

    Great video. Had an experience a few days ago that perfectly sums up this video. Was trying to help up a guy with some calve training mechanics and maybe some things to think about when training. Keep in mind this guy is probably 220 and in decent shape and I'm only about 180 with a good physique tho. I could tell he wasn't very receptive to the information I was giving him and he ended our conversation with well I wouldn't take business advice from a guy who's broke. In which point I said okay.. well let me put it to you this way. I don't need to be an MLB pitcher to teach you the mechanics of throwing a baseball. He didn't have anything to say after that

    Tom please please please put your Focus on Fitness VHS tapes onto TH-cam especially the deltoids one that you made Barrey so we can watch them; I no longer have access to watching taps that bought since my old VCR has taken to eating taps.

    Tom, you have very interesting vids, thanks! I am wondering what training advice you have for the middle-aged man (with many years of training experience) in terms of maintain muscle mass, health and longevity. For example, what exercises are especially important.

    It took him 10 minutes to establish the fact that you can't judge a book by its cover. maybe some people really need to have that fallacy broken down, idk.

    what about getting training advice by someone who isnt in shape or even overweight. there must be a reason they not in shape or whatever. i understand the arnold concept but i still feel if a pt was overweight or something id second guess his credentials. because what could possibly be a legitimate reason for them to no longer look the same/ be in shape

    • @Aspenfawn
      @Aspenfawn 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @jay what if the person who is now overweight was once the leading biomechanist/exercise scientist for a major fitness company? I'm not trying to say that a title automatically guarantees that the subject will be knowledgeable, but for what it's worth, what if that person got into a devastating accident that forever halted their previous weight-lifting/fitness endeavors? What if they've been in months of rehab and have gained 30-50 lbs and are now overweight? They are still mentally competent and able; they're just not physically able to personally implement what they know. Obviously this isn't the case for EVERY overweight PT, as I realize that many are full of shit and only hired to try and fill up a training schedule, but as Tom explains, we can't come to conclusions based on appearance. You NEVER know.
      I would also probably think twice if the person trying to instruct me was severely overweight, but then my job would be to look at the information he's relaying and whether it holds up to current science (yes, this will take MY time, but it's required if you want to know if someone is full of BS or if they truly know their craft). I think to some extent, people have gotten lazy and fail to at least learn the basics; they take the word of every PT at face value, implementing their methods blindly and failing because of it, time after time. Sure, fault definitely lies with the PT for not being knowledgeable enough to relay correct advice, but fault also lies with the trainee for taking this info at face value, time after time. Fitness isn't the only field where BS runs rampant, and it's my opinion that if people haven't learned that they need to sort out truth from BS enough to know who is credible and who is full of crap, well. ....
      :)

      @tompurvis166 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      yep! part of that continuum! remember I said if they never struggled with it on the road to apparent success... please realize that they may no longer care about that goal at all. they have nine kids and be dealing with cancer... but yes, the point of the struggle is only if there is or was sustainable success at some point for as long as he/she wanted to sustain it

    • @tompurvis166
      @tompurvis166 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Aspenfawn will biomechanics and exercise science has nothing to do with appearance anyway, does it? Those aren't necessarily "fitness". they are related sciences that have absolutely nothing to do with nutrition, food addiction, etc. so why would we expect anything beyond his/her area of expertise.... assuming they were experts in the first place
