Here it is, the day after Keith Emerson's death and, while searching for and listening to random ELP songs, I stumble upon this video. I've never heard of Rachel Flowers before...but I'm sitting here in tears listening to this amazing performance by Rachel of one of my favorite pieces from Keith. What a gift she has and what a tribute she has paid. Simply awesome.

. . . and here, 5 years later. I have honored Keith every March 11th by listening to hours of covers by Rachel and others every years since.

Rachel takes every insanely complicated Keith Emerson part and chews it up, spits it back and asks for more. She can't be beaten.

Did you notice she was also covering what bass and percussion parts she could?

AND.... she does it "blindfolded" and with a big grin on her face! TOTALLY amazing! I'm in shock!!!

@@johnparker3111 ...including those odd sound effects during the "eerie" part...and she was using tongue-clicks for the metronome/wood block!

    • @johnparker3111
      @johnparker3111 3 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@@lisagulick4144 The sound effects were her stroking the strings just like Emerson did on the original. It was much harder for her because she was also playing the bass part.

As a pianist I understand how hard it is to play this piece... and I enjoy watching Rachel's face when she aces through the toughest parts of this song... She's a genius, a source of talent and inspiration to all! Thank you so much for sharing this!
    Go for more ELP Rachel!

The Tony Banks 'Firth Of Fifth' solo is child's play compared to this!!
How do I know that, well because I can play that solo perfectly!!
On the other hand I could NEVER play this 2nd Impression of Karn Evil 9 no matter how hard I tried to learn,
this really is next level stuff and Rachel, God bless her, makes it look super easy, it really isn't!!
As always Rachel, enjoying your unbelievable, totally breathtaking talent has left me in complete awe, you're a Goddess darling!!

+TheBewdleyboy Just learned Rachel will perform at the Keith Emerson tribute at the Del Rey Theatre in Los Angeles on sat. 28th May. This is not the memorial Carl Palmerwas thinking about but a memorial organized by Mark Bonilla in cooperation with Keith's wife. Eddie Jobson will be there to 'assist' Rachel i guess? ;) he's just one of the manygreat musicians who will be there to pay tribute to Keith. Just check their website or Keith's for more info. However living on the other side of the planet i won't be there unfortunately.

I grew up listening to everything Emerson Lake and Palmer recorded, probably hundreds of times, have every note in full recall memory, and I'm just sitting here on TH-cam listening to hours of Rachel playing it all with such proficiency, gusto, and freshness, it would be impossible to listen to too much Rachel. My mind is blown, there are not enough adjectives in the English language to describe what hearing and seeing this does for me. BTW I have now bought the DVD and CD. Feel free to sell me more!

You made my day Rachel. I flashed back to Roosevelt Stadium 1973, Jersey City, NJ and I was there the whole time you played. If there is a god, he, she, it talks in musical notes played by a chosen few hands. I love the way you add in sounds with strumming the strings and tapping on the wood. An electric drum pad might be fun for you to add? It was also cool to see you smile ten seconds before you crossed the finish line.

Jeanie Flowers, not to get corny about it, but God creates us all as we are for a test and a purpose. It is difficult to imagine a more stunning example of God's hand in that regard and a person's ability to shine through the test put before her than in the combination of Rachel's handicap and her absolutely jaw-dropping virtuoso talent and ability. Thank you for sharing these videos of her. She is uplifting and an example to every single living person on earth, said sincerely and without exaggeration. Astounding. Considering her handicap (blindness), she actually trumps Emerson's actual technical keyboard ability and he was regarded as one of the best ever seen. Tell her everyone loves her. She deserves it. Looking forward to more and more. God bless.

I commend you Rachel. I first heard one of your versions of Karn Evil 9 2nd Impression a few years ago. Back then, as I recall it was not recorded by your sister Jeanie or at least not posted that way. Over the past few years I have listened to your incarnations and variations of all 3 impressions. The 2nd is my favorite. I have been a lifetime jazz fan, but I started out with rock. As a high schooler growing up in NY State, I witnessed the Brain Salad Surgery tour by Emerson, Lake and Palmer in a stadium venue and had a birds eye view. It was a life changing experience for me. Though this is you tube via the computer, I have never heard anyone as talented as you with this kind of passion for my kind of music. I wish you were my sister, cousin, or friend. You are so great, God's gift to life. I wish you well in everything you do the rest of your life. Looks like you have a great family who loves you which is also great. bye Rachel, SFC Martinez, Daniel J., US Army Retired - Fan of Rachel Flowers

Been watching her vids for a long time. Die-hard ELP fan here. This kid has my admiration for her talent and my sympathy (blind from birth - I think.) But she friggin' rocks.
