Oh wow, I need to read that paper the Pope wrote! Will it give me more clues to what I have been studying for so long - what reality is driving the western world, and undermining the church? I heard these three words when I asked God - consumerism, performancism and perfectionism! I saw they seek to build our own kingdom, power and glory! I saw they were why these beliefs were so strong - materialism and capitalistic power to get wealth, and humanistic belief we need no god to help us be good, we have that power, can be our own god! But who will listen and engage with an older, low income woman, even though white? I see a solution too, in a deeper application of the Gospel - mind, heart and spirit - we all need to learn to hear His voice again, so He can teach us to love properly!
As a lover of irony, I can't help but wonder whether the us / them of your phrasing was intentional. I don't think it was. I think McClaren gave an excellent talk that everyone needs to hear. I know I plan on watching it a few more times as I don't think I absorbed all of it effectively either.

If so, why did millions of Evangelical Christians in 2016 & 2020 allow a wolf to become shepherd of the flock & to surrender the fate of American people to the mercy of the malicious?

Not only Evangelicals, all of the Abrahamic religions have this world view. This is why they share a history of kill, plunder and subjugate.
