- Construction of these non-stop elevators was ceased in the mid-1970s out of concerns for safety, but they are actually relatively safe, and I'd love to see them make a comeback 😁
This one is located in New City Hall, Prague, Czech Republic

A brilliant functional concept that's been given a bad name ... just not to be used by stupid people !
I'd love to see them make a comeback 😀

Wondering if they're expensive to run as they constantly running compared to a standard call lift .🤔
the stupid ones are those who made it...
Scary and yet useful and convenient.
I went to Prague just to see this 😁
A safety element could have been fitted to the top of the door frame, which would stop the lift immediately when activated to prevent limbs from being trapped/crushed. Perhaps they already register sudden impact and stop.
There is a safety element on the top of the door frame, it's the thing that looks like a metal grid
if the race for your life type entering of the elevator wasnt scary enough theres even exposed fingercrushing gears
I remember seeing a few of those still running in the 80s at car garages (multi-floor ramps) with valet parking - sort of like the lot seen in Ferris Bueller's Day Off - they had a set of these for the attendants to quickly go fetch cars and return to the lobby after dropping one off. They were strictly off limits for non-employees of the parking ramp.
Edit: I just checked out the scene in Ferris Bueller and they had one of these visible very briefly right when the Ferrari enters the garage - you can see an open (no safety cage) model turning against the back wall... one set of steps (not a whole cab) descending and the other side rising.
At about 7 or 8 seconds in this clip:

Where was the location? Is it still running? 🙂
@@KingKenny7 this would have been downtown St Paul or maybe Minneapolis in the early 80s.
I heavily suspect they are long gone now - my first impression on seeing one for the first time was "wow neat" but also "hold on tight". :P
@@KingKenny7 Very few of them are left worldwide because of safety issues. I know that in the movie, "Night People," both Actors Gregory Peck and Buddy Epson rode in one. I highly recommend that movie.
Классные лифты!!
This is probably the most dangerous elevator i have ever seen Fr Imagine U have A Important work but U are in this Elevator u Don't know How this elevator works so U Wander how to get out?
They were pretty popular in Poland- No accidents noted, small ammount of incidents (mostly due to safety circuit failures)
This one has safety sensors and the floor also has a hinged flap making them very safe 🙂
