  • Ice fishing in Northern Manitoba is still one of my favorite things to do. This is Part 1 of a 3 part series where I headed to famous Wekusko Falls Lodge in Northern Manitoba and on this trip I decided to try a different lake/species everyday when I was up there! Thank you Bryan for some good pointers on where to head, I had a super fun 3 days!!

    Don't have a garage yet so I sit in the spare/fishing gear room hahaha. And that was a solid day of fishing. Can't complain one bit about that. Great video as always and liked the quick explanation on rods used but you didn't mention your line. What have you been using on your ice rods this winter? Same brand of line on all rod set ups? You could probably do a clip on what lines you prefer for certain species, rod setups etc and what types of lines are best for fishing outside in cold temps.

    • @ClaytonSchickOutdoors
      @ClaytonSchickOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I will try to talk about that, to be honest. I had talked about it at the end of the video, but I cut out the line talk and the rant about braided line in the cold weather just because the video was so long already :)

    The longer a pike is exposed to air the longer it will sit still on the bottom recovering. A quick release is key (not that your release wasn't quick enough, just a general tip) there are some pretty interesting studies done on the subject.

    In the video you said you don't like having slush in their mouth because it tears the gills up, and I see you grabbing them buy the gills, I was wondering if that hurts their gills because I have never picked up any fish I've caught in the gills for that reason, could I have been doing this the whole time ?

    • @ClaytonSchickOutdoors
      @ClaytonSchickOutdoors  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am only grabbing the gill pate. My hands and fingers are avoiding their actual gills which is the red part. It is find to grab most fish by the gill pate, but the bigger fish you will need to support the belly at the same time as much as you can :) Hope that helps...
