  • If you ever wondered what its like to grow a caterpillar into a butterfly then you may find this video from Insect Lore interesting. The full process took about 4 weeks to go from Caterpillar to Butterfly. They showed up at my house the size of pin needles as long as my pinky nail and every single one of them evolved into a butterfly. So that was pretty cool.

I've just come across this video and wanted to say that I've done and immensely enjoyed a butterfly kit from Insect Lore in the past, and have ordered another to do again this Spring. I'm doing these kits for two reasons. First is because I love butterflies and want to help their populations in the wild if I can. Most butterfly populations are decreasing as land that once held an abundance of wild flowers for them to feed on and lay their eggs have been developed by us humans. The second reason is because I want to release them as a commemoration to my late grandmother. As her ashes were being interred at her grave, I noticed a few snow white butterflies fluttering around and ever since, have associated her with butterflies. Her birthday was March 21st, but because it's been cold here where I live, I've waited until temperatures were more favorable to have the caterpillars shipped out to me and to eventually be able to release them when they become butterflies.
