You don't have to drill out and damage a stubborn aluminum accumulator cover- the hole in the end is a common pilot size for pipe thread. Tap it with a pipe tap and use a slide hammer to remove the cover intact. Never came across one that wouldn't come out. I was able to clean up and re-use every one (fresh O-rings please)
I've got a 4l30e in a 2000 passport. Interesting question. I can put the rear wheels up on jack stands and crank it up and it will drive and shift through all the gears perfectly. But when it's sitting on the ground I only have first and reverse and they are strong. It's like it won't shift into second, put up in the air everything works fine. Could this be a slipping band or low hydraulic pressure? No check engine light. Fluid looks fine. Thanks for your input.
@@GaryFerraro yes I had put "a" shifter solenoid in it a few years ago and it didn't fix it. I had top the fluid off then but it wasn't running. Since then I pulled it out and started taking with it again and I topped the fluid off with it running.
@@GaryFerraro I'm not exactly sure what the low band does and it could be out of adjustment. I'm going to check that while I have the pan off currently. I have all 5 solenoids on order to replace.
@@GaryFerraro interesting, while 1st gear is strong then that's probably ok. Hhmmm.... I could have installed a faulty A solenoid before or maybe the epc is sticking closed decreasing pressure? Do you know of any performance upgrades for this transmission? These units are right at their normal limits in the heavier Isuzu vehicles and when you start pulling trailers or doing any sort of serious off-road driving, they tend to die at accelerated rates, usually losing gears. They do come with factory trans coolers. Later Rodeos/Axioms and the Vehicross came with the better Aisin 30-40LE but lots of Rodeos/Amigos and Troopers out there are running around with the light duty GM unit.

Dear Gary, i have a question about zf 6hp19a transmission.... the problem is abnormal rpm cycling when transmission is cold... when it gets warm it gets better, transmission has a new valve body and bushings. Can be the torque converter cause of the problem?

Gary good evening. Have a question regarding a 3l30, when hot it bangs into drive and reverse, but what's really got my attention is that it shifts from 2-3 really quick, from 1-2 shifts great at about 10-15 mph once it shifts to 2nd gear 3rd gear comes up real quick and engine sounds like it's bogging. I changed the modulator and I took the transfer out to check the governor valves, and they are free, but there was no gasket at the governor body, can a missing gasket on the governor body cause erratic shifts ? Or could I have a problem in the valve body, thanks in advance Gary. Oh and it's a 92_93 geo tracker 4x4
Gary, with your videos, I have partially disassembled a used 4L30e and put it in to replace a shot transmission in a 2000 Passport. Thank you! It runs great, but it leaks and at certain times will spray fluid on the driveshaft (front) and passenger underside of vehicle. I believe it is the accumulator piston cover leaking badly. It is the bonded rubber style and I am ordering a replacement. Questions: 1. Can I temporarily seal it with something so it will be driveable until it arrives? 2. Do I need to remove the piston and change the o-ring on that also? 3. I think it has lost about a quart or so. No trans lights and the fluid looks good. In your opinion, is the transmission damaged from the fluid loss? It still runs good with filled fluid. 4. Is it unusual to get spray from this leaking cover? Sorry for the long message!
I would say no, no temporary seal that i know of. If the o-ring is good, you can leave it, be careful when putting the piston back in, there is no chamfer. if it runs ok, you should be fine, just keep it full. i have never seen spray(check cooler lines if one is near ) just constant drip
I cant express enough how informative your videos are! Thanks for putting in all your effort!!
