Hey all!! This is my first video in this style and I would really love to hear some feedback! If you have any suggestions for things I could improve in the future as far as structure or editing of the video, let me know! My favorite part of the run was when Sans & Papyrus were forced to watch the slaughter of innocent victims; Sure, the deaths of those monsters may be permanent in their eyes, but so is your record, if you're lucky enough I think this video did a great job showing an example of how much of an effect RNG can have on speedruns by the way
Chara be like: "In this video, im trying to erase the life in the underground as fast as possible, while my monster friends are trying to stop me, will i be able to go through the barrier? This video turned out really unpredictable and i also want to remind that only a small % of you watching are actually subscribed..."

@@Mqstodon Well two things to counter that argument- one, that only affected his drop rates and not his actual play style or ability (that we know of) so it wouldn't naturally be as noticeable, plus he isn't a tas bot. Two, remember that Dream denied having cheats at all so the logic that he didn't know / couldn't have checked his mods later is absurd. In the end, he was trying NOT to get caught. Maybe if no one called him out he would have continued an upwards trend of him getting better and better until he beat the record, who knows what the play was.

Yeah. I think it's (partly) due to the fact that, from what I've seen, Undertale's speedrunning community doesn't seem as prevalent as others like Mario, Celeste, Hollow Knight, etc.

before watching this video I was angry at how disrespectful what dream did was to all other speedruners, but now I think it's even more slimy than I thought before. How nasty do you have to be to deny someone who actually worked really hard the place they deserve way more than you do. Cheating really isn't fun for anyone.
The only cheating I like is in single player games (that isn't in a speedrunning setting) because it's fun, finds stupid stuff, and isn't hurting anyone
4:29 The thing i find funniest about this is that, since i've worked with JavaScript where you can only get floating point randoms, i know that for an even distribution of integers you need to have the generation range *one unit higher* (and of course, exclusive on the upper bound, if it's inclusive you need to like subtract epsilon or something) and *floor it,* because rounding an even floating point distribution causes the bounds (0 and 30 in this case) to be individually half as likely as any other value. Indeed, not only is this an inefficient way of generating the number, but it's also not uniform.
Very well made and insightful. The magnitude of large numbers can be difficult to comprehend sometimes, so having something that illustrates it well is nice
Game maker had integer jank in an early update. Was more reliable to round a random generated number. Not sure if that glitch was actually a thing when undertale was being developed. Depends on the date they started I guess.

Minecraft has much more luck, but most of that comes in the form of the random seed. Top level Minecraft speedrunners can identify an unlucky run beforehand and just not play it.

Dream's luck type videos are one of the things that was needed in today's world, i always had curiosity about how games can change that much if you actually have good RNG and with these videos, it is very satisfying to see
To express just how lucky those raw proabilities are, here is how much luckier Dream was in his modified speedrun than Shayy's. Dream was 571428.571429 times luckier in raw probability
Dream's luck wasn't just taken from a single game, it was the fact that he got really good luck in a lot of runs in a row that got the insanely lucky probability which you show at the end. Instead, you showed an insane luck in a single run. The video was really entertaining tho nice 👍
I can legitimately believe that Dream forgot he had it enabled, even to this day. He probably used it in Minecraft Manhunts so he wasn't spending 12 years in the nether for every video, and that's fine, obviously it makes the content more appealing and all that. But... you can't be making that mistake and then denying it. I believe he even said "I didn't tho!" Or something like that and then went showing his "evidence" that he didn't, AFTER taking it out so he could show the evidence. If you make a mistake, own up to it. That's something nearly EVERYONE needs to learn to do, including me. If Dream just owned up to it, it wouldn't be so bad. Now sure, if he just said at the start "no way, I didn't cheat!" and didn't realize, only learning later that he cheated, he could have owned up to it then and there... but he didn't. 4:30 about integer casting vs. rounding, they're actually slightly different. IIRC, integer casting a float simply lops off the decimal part, while rounding a string may bump up the whole number part by 1. As such, in the equation described in this video, it's totally possible for round(random(argument1)) to return 30, which could be important for certain boundary cases. Of course, without being able to see more of the code, I wouldn't know anything else.

Either way, cheating is cheating. Doesn't matter what place you got. Your run is invalid if you got WR or purposely slowed down to get 16th.
