Biltmore Estate is open to public and in this video I'm covering what it's like to visit it this holiday season. I visited ONLY the areas that didn't get any/much damage and are open to public. Some parts of Biltmore Estate had more damage- low laying land, pastures, farm, area along the lagoon- and they are closed off at the moment. My home town iam so sad and miss it and it's so Hart braking to see the damage
👍👍👍👍👍 Elena …
I visited Biltmore many, many years ago before they started charging people over $100 PER PERSON. MY LORD, CAN YOU IMAGINE OVER $400 for a family of four. Not in my lifetime. But then again, I was shocked at the price of a movie for one person not long ago. $18..... 😮😅😢 And Seniors get a SS raise of 2.3%. When you have the time to enjoy life, your can't afford too. I'll always be glad to live in America, but since 2019, I cannot even make a donation to meals for others at Thanksgiving, buy toys for needy children at Christmas. I can't donate to the Hunane Society for the poor needy abused animals. I have had to change my lifestyle to make my budget stretch and stretch and stretch. I have enjoyed your honesty throughout this video. I am happy that you can afford what you can. I know it must be very difficult with children to stretch your budget with the money you earn. ❤
I'm confused; the steering wheel on the car is on the right side instead of the left, but the car is being driven on the right side of the road. Just curious. Nice video.
The car is from japan 🇯🇵
@@livinginashevillenc Ah, there must be a story there. Mine is from Japan, too; it's a Subaru.
We Are Not Done!!!!!! WE WILL REBUILD!!!!! Proud to live here in WNC. #togetherWNC
Attended college in NC decades ago and used to visit Biltmore at least annually. Moved back to NC after living elsewhere and have now lived here again for almost two decades. Can't afford the place anymore. Unbelievable that I could do it as a struggling college student, but now, w/how much the place has built up and prices have skyrocketed, it's just too expensive. I would recommend you go at least once though. Went at Christmas one year and it was gorgeous.
Thank you for posting this. I live in south Florida and have been wondering about Biltmore. One of our favorite places to visit. Having gone through hurricanes down here, we can tell there’s been a lot of cleanup done on the estate. Downtown will take months, if not a good couple of years.
What if you're inside the house at 5:30 when the lights go on? Do they make you leave and buy another ticket?
Hurricane Helene stopped being a hurricane when it hit land. The damage in Asheville and other areas are from lots of rain and some wind plus the dam breaking in NC. Most of the flooding was the result of the dam breaking, not the hurricane. It is absolutely bad enough without confusing people. The flooding was devastating in NC and TN. It will probably take five years to recover from such a natural disaster. I pray for everyone and want to help in any way possible. God bless y'all 🙏.

I had tickets to Asheville and a stay at a hotel for December. I decided to cancel them. There are so many people still doing without in N.C. and Tn. that I am donating that money to help them. I knew I couldn't enjoy touring the mansion while there was so much suffering nearby.

I find it very ironic that nothing happened to the mansion that is owned by millionaires.

My husband & I visited in June. We stayed at a hotel in the village. So sad to see the destruction. I know they will recover over time.

Visited in 2019 for thanksgiving, went back two years later just to go to the cafe to buy pickles, you now need to pay the admission cost which has doubled, just to get on the grounds. Beautiful place but not worth the cost of admission in my mind. Glad I visited prior to covid.

OMG! This is heart breaking. There has been so much progress towards recovery in some areas of western NC. I didn't expect things to look so bad still here. I was planning to visit very soon. I have had annual passes to Biltmore Estate for several decades. I'm glad I'm seeing this online first to prepare me a little bit.
Yep. Some parts are taking longer
They're FEMA markings. Not just for "bodies" but to indicate dangerous conditions inside like wires, stagnant water, etc. Its so searchers dont keep searching the same properites, wasting valuable time and limited resources.
Ashville and the Biltmore Estate will recover and become more beautiful again!
Was any of the house flooded, like the basement? I remember that was where the kitchen was?
I don’t think so, but I don’t know for sure It sits pretty high up
@ 👍
Sugar Daddy. That is old school candy. ☺️
That’s what I’m hearing! 😅
There is nothing wrong with the estate, It flooded in the usual areas, trees fell and some roads damaged, but it survived in 1916, it will survive Helene..
I went for the first time last year in November . Great video by the way. We had such a fun time and your video brings back such great memories. Hoping Biltmore and all of Asheville recovers .
Thank you 🙏!
Can you guarantee my wife at least 4 feet of snow and the “ hallmark channel “ ???
Absolutely no, lol We didn’t have measurable snow in Asheville for over 2 years
sorry! i was too busy yesterday to watch this!! thank you so much for making this video!! as someone who dreams of moving to your area, this topic has been on my mind since helene. trees are so tricky. they are good on slopes because, in normal conditions, they hold the earth on the slope in place with their roots. they also help to drink up water no matter where they are (my backyard neighbor cut down 7 huge trees and put in a pool [which equates to paving most of her backyard] and now our house floods bcz we are downhill from her). but with over-saturation, the trees become threats. it is actually really complicated. i wonder if someone could do a study in the areas hardest hit - which ***did not*** have debris flows or massive flash floods - to see if any particular types of trees were more likely to fall or not to fall. if some types of trees were more likely to remain standing, maybe plant those and/or keep those ones standing. your area, after the disaster, has lots of lessons that may be able to teach us about all kinds of things. thanks again for such a thoughtful and useful video!
Trees are tricky. Especially if there’s a stream/creek next to them. There’s been plenty of cases of severe damage and mud slides in heavily wooded areas.
What about local accommodations for people coming a long distance? Preferably in town, not on the estate. The Biltmore at Christmas has been on my bucket list for a long time. Thanks!
I’m not sure if all, but a lot of hotels are open. There’s also a ton of Airbnb‘s in the area. Plenty to choose from.
Stop the background music.

I have to say, I was hoping to get something more useful from this video than basically, “be able to afford the solutions we’re suggesting.” How wonderful for the higher-income residents who can afford new construction, built thoughtfully and with engineered solutions on high ground. But for the rest of us? I’m an artist working professionally in WNC and I have a 45-year old block construction building on the side of a mountain in Mitchell Co. that suffered two slides and a road failure. The roof needs to be replaced and overhang added. The road is private so no state help there. It’s not my primary residence, it’s my studio, so no FEMA help. Besides being wealthy and living in Olivette, what are my options?
@@happygocrafty I’m working on bringing someone who is not a high end builder

Hi new sub 🙂 Thank you for this video. Im in north east TN and I used to have season passes but since the prices went way up I haven't been since 2018. I hope yo go back sometime. I always loved going there ☀️🌸💜💜💜
@@michellemarie222 hi!! Yes they are way more expensive now!
You don’t seem to know the dark history of the Biltmore that is coming to light. I wouldn’t allow my children to run alone there. Research the swimming pool in the basement if you want to learn truth. Also the tunnels below the Biltmore. Dark history concerning the Royals and “Elites” has not been limited to their castles or cities in Europe. Information has recently come out that Asheville is one of the most Satanic cities in our country.
My children do not run alone there.
You mentioned it was safe for children to run around the grounds. I personally would not feel comfortable doing that now with what I know.
@ yeah, bc there’s barely any traffic, lots of space to run and play, ride bikes, play by the lagoon, play at the playground and the farm. We are always there together of course, but feel safer than at a regular playground that’s by a road or where anyone can have access to.
@ you seem like a very nice person.
I live in South Florida and work in entitlements for development. Everything is flat here, however, everything has to be built above the FFE of the crown of the road. Drainage is a major concern and civil engineers are required to strict design standards. I think Helene will be WNC's Andrew. After hurricane Andrew, the Building code changed significantly. FEMA may remap areas and the Building Code will become more regulated.
I know it’s not easy especially for those who are trying to rebuild and can’t because in some areas counties/cities now start requiring to move the whole structure higher…and that’s a big problem for a lot of people who don’t have $$ support to begin with. Some building practices gotta change though.
@@livinginashevillenc It's very unfortunate. I love Asheville and hope it can recover, especially for the locals. I'm not sure if people will be able to obtain mortgages in locations that are uninsurable, so those areas will most likely need to be cash buyers who can self insure.
you think people are exaggerating video doesnt lie !!!
