    Very nice, however don’t you need a fuse? I’m sure there was a fuse inside the cig plug.

      yes sir ,however I fuse my outlets and my bad for not pointing this out .thanks for watching 👍🍻

    You can also undo cig plug screw and see the positive connection on the center pole, unscrew that and mark as positive. Preserves more cable too.
    Thumbs up video though. 👍

    you have just lost the fuse which is inside the cig plug, plus its a lot easier to unscrew the cig lighter plug and see which wire is connected to pos and neg.......

  • @jameslawson3876
    @jameslawson3876 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good way of finding the Pos or Neg cable if you don't have the other indicators. The inline fuse to protect the device is in the tip of the cigarette plug so you would probably need to add a new fuse in line before the Anderson connector if it is going straight to a battery box.

      great tip as I forgot to mention the fuse . in my situation I plug this onto a fused outlet . thanks for watching 👍🍻

    • @jameslawson3876
      @jameslawson3876 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@EFFICIENTSELF Yes, all fine if going into a fused outlet with the same rating as what is needed by the device. 🙂

    • @kel1664
      @kel1664 ปีที่แล้ว

      Recommend fuse size please?

    • @jameslawson3876
      @jameslawson3876 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@kel1664 My understanding is that the cigarette socket is normally rated around 7.5 to 10Amps, depending on thickness of wiring. So some use a 7.5A fuse, others 10A and some even 15A. It depends on the device itself. Check the fuse in the nose of the cigarette plug of the existing device cable and that will tell you what is needed for that specific device if you use an alternate fuse and plug.

    The original end on that cable comes apart with one screw, making it dead simple to see that the ribbed cable is negative...which is a standard across the industry. Good idea swapping out the unreliable accessory plug for an Anderson. XT-60 is a good option too, if you happen to use those.

    Another way to check is just use your multimeter arcross both leads if its the red lead is in the negative line it will display -12.00v or if the positive is on the red lead it will show 12.00v

    the wire may have no obvious marks but if you look closely there's a rib on the outside of one. That said, you can check the entire cable for hot and ground, then make a note of which is which, BEFORE CUTTING ANYTHING. This particular cable also has printing on one lead so you can follow that too. Not sure why you are having problems with the old style lighter plug. Might just be a particular make.

    Do you know why the multi mitre has pointed ends ? Do you don’t have to cut wire drongo

    Yes another useful no thrills video. I have done exactly what you have done with air compressors and fridges the only thing I do different is fit an Anderson plug to the to the original connection ie the cig connection or alligator clips. You can then use these when you need to connect to power when Anderson only connection is not available.

    Useful upload Dino. Can’t tell you how many times I have seen a post on Facebook someone asking which is positive
    egative.
    I was super lucky when I purchased a spare cable from Jaycar for my Engel as within the cig plug itself the positive had a fuse so I didn’t need a multi meter.
    I’ll be sure to share this vid next time I see someone ask
    Hope your weekend is going great mate
