There are constantly many transformations in Odyssey as well, or in Bowser’s fury, or even as back as Banjo Kazooie. It’s a (good) idea that has been utilized many times in platformers.
I definitely agree, but it looks like Astro Bot put a lot more effort into animating the living "collectables" in meaningful ways, bringing them to life more.

Or that Isle Delfino needed Shine Sprites so they could literally survive? Or that Power Moons were needed to power the Odyssey because without them Mario and Cappy can’t go anywhere to stop Bowser from stealing artifacts from around the world to set up the forced wedding?
@@andrewjackson2423 While that suggestion definitely didn't have to be made in such a rude manner, it can be easy to forget the collectibles have a lore purpose compared to a character.
Comparing can be done without saying one of them is bad overall. It's human nature to want to compare similar things. Putting comparisons into words is a necessary step in driving our collective creativity forward.
While in some ways I agree with you, 3D Mario could do a lot of these things better, the advantage of Nintendo having multiple platforming series (Kirby, Mario, DK) is that they don't have to push all their creative ideas into one game or one series. Kirby doesn't have to do what Mario does, who doesn't have to do what DK does, and that's okay, too.
Just because we all like Mario-inspired games doesn't mean it beats Mario, nor makes it better than Mario. A great personal example of mine is Saltim from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg, where he uses mirrors he hides with different variations of finding the real him such as chasing or finding the unique one before the damaging starts. 5. Kind of hard to do if you want that contextual world. 6. Feels like hub worlds for Mario fell out of favor for Odyssey making every level a hub in its own right. Astro Bot and Super Mario are BOTH GREAT games in their own right. Maybe Mario could evolve, but that said it wasnt made for over 20s. Its a kids game that yes us adults like or even love to play. I disagree with some of the things you said, not all. Thanks for the video!
Point 1: They could put Captain Toad in a level to 'rescue' instead of putting the guy in the overworld to find. And point 5: They could use the characters from point 1 which you have rescued in that level to celebrate with you when reaching the flagpole on the end of a Mario level. And point 6: Another good example of a nintendo game with a good hub world was Diddy Kong Racing on the N64.
I don't. I just see a video that looks at Astro Bot's success and says "so what can Mario learn from this?". After all, Mario isn't perfect and can always grow, right?
Eh, I disagree with Mario needing 'epic' boss battles because the Mario series has never really been about that, even with the RPG or Galaxy games. You want epic final bosses? You can play God of War for that. Or for Nintendo specifically, some Zelda titles can fill that niche.
The Bowser battle in Super Mario 64 has stood the test of time due to its epicness. Sunshine had some interesting bosses as well. The Broodals from Odyssey feel less inspired in comparison. Even the Bowser Jr. battles from Wonder feel less creative compared to something like DKC Tropical Freeze. More inspired boss battles and setpieces can only help the Mario series, not hurt it.
I see where you're coming from but I'd argue that epic boss battles definitely would fit into mario games cleanly. Just because it's something that's been (mostly) lacking so far doesn't mean it wouldn't vastly improve them if it was added.
I am telling you right now I could not be any happier for the Launch Titles of the Switch 2. It is already impressive what they did with a 7 year-old console, so to see the hardware get upgraded and more possibilities to be heavily extended is incredibly exciting
7:49 Did you just sad you want the next game to take place in the Mushroom Kingdom with generic Mushroom Kingdom areas? And you only want toads to collect? That just completely ignores what you said earlier.
I’m almost done with the game (250 bots) and while a really good game it really isn’t on the level of Mario yet for me. But i agree with the boss battles though
I finally played it at the house of a relative of mine who bought a PS5 Slim on vacation and the truth is, it is a great game and it doesn't bother me, since in the nineties we had similar rivals
I think the next 3D Mario game needs two kinds of collectibles. A more valuable collectible for completing a level or major quest, and a more common collectible for hidden secrets scattered throughout levels. The problem with characters being the collectible itself is that the whole game becomes a rescue mission and nothing else. It would be much better if rescuing characters gives you the collectible, which can also be obtained in many other ways.
One downside to collectables being actual sentient beings, is that it makes you feel bad if you miss optional ones. Power stars and shine sprites are awesome to have as hidden collectables, because they are sorta sentient but not like a person.
I say Astro Bot of the PS5 System and Mario of Nintendo are both VERY Similar to each other. I just don't see what's the big difference between them are
1:00 The Astro Bots are not like the stars in Mario. But more like the moons in Mario Odyssey that power up the ship and are found everywhere in a stage.
Why even compare it to Mario? It looks like witch time from bayonetta when they Stop time but just because they did something similar oh well not much is original these days fishing for views. Saying it’s better when it’s its own game and doesn’t even have the same goal has mario
I'm a lifelong Mario fan, and I don't mind this video one bit! It's GOOD for Mario to have competition if it pushes Nintendo to make games even better. Mario can't have competition without the community putting into words WHY another game is competition (e.g. what this video is doing).
The next 3D Mario game is probably going to be an open world game because every leaker and their moms have said that because it's probably going to be about 8 years since Odyssey and Bowser's Fury has probably been a test for an open world 3D Mario game. There probably won't be such a hub world with a lot of secrets because the whole game is a hub world with a lot of secrets
I will choose astro bot over super mario odyssey any day of the week. Astro bot has dethroned mario and is the new platform king. Mario has a lot of good games in it's franchise, and mario has been around for a very long time. But mario is now old and outdated, mario had it's time to shine. Now it's time for mario to step down and step aside and let the new platform king astro bot shine. Out with the old in with the new.
The stars are animated. They spin. Sorry. I wanna play Astrobot based on these plagiarism claims. Well its absolutely obvious isn't it but that's no bad things as those games are great.
The game looks fantastic but i don't like that the protagonist is a robot.Reminds me Eve from wall-e movie.Very common design. And yes all the mechanics are inspired from nintendo games but that;s ok.
I GOT F&$NG JUMPSCARED BY AN ADD OF PEPPA PIG THAT USES THE DEMONIC TRAIN SFX THAT GOBBLEGUT MAKES ON ITS 0:00 SECOND! speaking of wich, this game thankfully doesn't uses said demonic sfx when steam pops up
Yes,the Mini Mushroom. Of course that came to mind. But it doesn't fit in organically nearly as well as Astro Bot, which is my point. How it recontexulised areas that doesn't necessarily look like they were built exclusively for tiny size Also the ability to freely change between the two greatly affects what you can do with the size differences, allowing for puzzles and situations not otherwise possible
6 arguable things better while everything else Mario does better. Lol it cannot be beaten, especially not in sales numbers in japan. And the ability to become very small was already done with the blue mini mushrooms. 😂
Alright, enough is enough. I think people are going WAYAYAYAY too far in praising this game. It's nice to have a good platformer from Sony after decades, but saying that now Mario is bad only because Astro Bot exists is overkill. I saw people saying everywhere this on socials, and now Nin10doland, then AntDude and now this guy said the same thing. Are you really saying that Super Mario 64, Galaxy 1 & 2, 3D World and Odyssey have suddenly become bad games just because Astro Bot exists? You guys have completely lost your mind...
I didn't said that at all and I didn't intend for that to be a take away from the video, which is why I say only "6 things" as opposed to dozens of not hundreds that Mario pioneered, and does at least as well as Astro Bot. But that doesn't mean that it can't be improved still
@@grayfox4819 Astro Bot and Mario can exist harmoniously. I love this game but I also love Mario as well. You can love multiple games at the same time you know.
Haven’t played Mario odyssey since its release but it is almost forgettable, hate to compare the 2 but if I had to compare the 2 Astro Bot wins. The crisps clean 4K 60fps gameplay and 80 plus tracks of memorable music, only Mario Galaxy series is comparable.
Nintendo certainly does not need to take notes from a game that shamelessly rips them off, especially when it's arguably the most valuable gaming franchise in the industry.

you know that super mario 64 is 28 years old. And it didn't revolutionize that platform games are the basis of all 3d games. first game with a stick with the character who follows the direction of the stick and changes its speed according to the inclination. first game where you can control the camera etc.. everything that seems obvious to you in a 3d game was invented in Mario 64 look at the other 3D games in 96. everything that is in Astro bot was done in Mario. Will we be talking about astro bot in 30 years?

DKR had an amazing hub, especially for a RACING game!
I feel this video was made for the mere purpouse of causing flames...
I don't. I just see a video that looks at Astro Bot's success and says "so what can Mario learn from this?". After all, Mario isn't perfect and can always grow, right?
Hey Grayfox where did you see people saying they were jumping ship for Sony? I’m trying to confirm it.
the dualsense / haptic feedback is game changer for astrobot. the interactivity and immersion is real
And here I was thinking that Nintendo don't need any help or tips but there's many good points in this video!
Interesting, well I do hope Nintendo implements some things from Astro bot. Pretty jealous that I can’t play it.
Eh, I disagree with Mario needing 'epic' boss battles because the Mario series has never really been about that, even with the RPG or Galaxy games. You want epic final bosses? You can play God of War for that. Or for Nintendo specifically, some Zelda titles can fill that niche.
Super mario bros on the ds had cool boss battles. We can have some new types
@@alexbrown8900Eh
- All the bosses were too easy
- Junior mini bosses were bad and repetetive
- final boss is pretty underwelming
@@radiorah768Tropical Freeze bosses go for to long
Claim to be a Nintendo news youtube channel and they forgot to make a video about the grand festival in splatoon 3.
Kingping: Not All Ways is About Nintendo, Spider-Man
The exaggerated title shows that he envies Mario, who saved video games.
He is actually a Nintendo fanboy lmao
I am telling you right now I could not be any happier for the Launch Titles of the Switch 2. It is already impressive what they did with a 7 year-old console, so to see the hardware get upgraded and more possibilities to be heavily extended is incredibly exciting
Yeah i wish Mario odessy and mario wonder boss battles were better.
7:49 Did you just sad you want the next game to take place in the Mushroom Kingdom with generic Mushroom Kingdom areas? And you only want toads to collect? That just completely ignores what you said earlier.
No, I said that could be a hub world. Not every level in the game
Sorry. I didn't understand it right.
@GameXplain you said it would be repopulated with toads you find throughout the game lol
@@MochaRitz I specifically said it didn't have to be just Toads, nor did I say he needed to be confined to the Mushroom Kingdom
@@MochaRitz 8:15 he said all the toads. It doesn't matter though to be honest with you.
I’m almost done with the game (250 bots) and while a really good game it really isn’t on the level of Mario yet for me. But i agree with the boss battles though
I think all it's lacking is more depth full dense levels, a longer game.
I finally played it at the house of a relative of mine who bought a PS5 Slim on vacation and the truth is, it is a great game and it doesn't bother me, since in the nineties we had similar rivals
Without mario galaxy...there would be no astro bot. It is a fun game though. Being inspired by mario makes it more fun.
If Team Asobi isn't contracted to Sony, Nintendo should seriously consider a joint project with them. Perhaps a Mario game with them co developing it.
Team Asobi is First Party Studio
Rather than taking notes from astro bot its really ways mario can improve..... by learning from other nintendo IPs
GameXplain, This made me laugh so hard, thanks for sharing!
That's actually the only game that I want to play on the PlayStation 5 right now.
Nintendo should take notes
The stars have eyes therefore they are alive
And not only this game borrow mechanics, visuals and gameplay ideas from Odyssey, but also from Sunshine and certainly Galaxy
Sounds like Mario could learn a lot from Kirby 👍🏼
0:48 Your speaking facts! :D
I say Astro Bot of the PS5 System and Mario of Nintendo are both VERY Similar to each other. I just don't see what's the big difference between them are
The jump mechanic for one. The games play very differently
1:00 The Astro Bots are not like the stars in Mario. But more like the moons in Mario Odyssey that power up the ship and are found everywhere in a stage.
Only seeing this video made me want to play Astro Bot so badly
🤓 In Super Mario Bros. Wonder you were saving Poplins who were in danger and had slightly different personalities.
Remember super princess peach. When peach saved the toads
04:40 Didnt Mario had the mini mario power up in New SMB & an entire zelda game used the concept of shrinking.
For the first point collect toads with all unique outfits like paper Mario.
*Miyamoto didn’t like that*
Why even compare it to
Mario? It looks like witch time from bayonetta when they Stop time but just because they did something similar oh well not much is original these days fishing for views. Saying it’s better when it’s its own game and doesn’t even have the same goal has mario
Mmmm... Several of Andre's ideas sound like Origami King.
I did show it at one point haha
I'm a lifelong Mario fan, and I don't mind this video one bit! It's GOOD for Mario to have competition if it pushes Nintendo to make games even better. Mario can't have competition without the community putting into words WHY another game is competition (e.g. what this video is doing).
That's a great attitude to have! Thanks for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed the video :)
Oh yeah! I always prefer competition in the products I enjoy it allows me to move to either or enjoy both! (If you know what I mean.)
Exactly!
The robots are basically the same Jinjos from Banjo Kazooie
I will choose astro bot over super mario odyssey any day of the week. Astro bot has dethroned mario and is the new platform king. Mario has a lot of good games in it's franchise, and mario has been around for a very long time. But mario is now old and outdated, mario had it's time to shine. Now it's time for mario to step down and step aside and let the new platform king astro bot shine. Out with the old in with the new.
you know....astro bot is my new favorite game mario odyssey is second
The stars are animated. They spin. Sorry. I wanna play Astrobot based on these plagiarism claims. Well its absolutely obvious isn't it but that's no bad things as those games are great.
¿Quién vino por el tweet de N Deluxe?
We could do this with other platformers too.
The backpedaling is crazy
The game looks fantastic but i don't like that the protagonist is a robot.Reminds me Eve from wall-e movie.Very common design. And yes all the mechanics are inspired from nintendo games but that;s ok.
I think Nin doesn't need to learn anything from Astro Bot & it would be very wise for Nin to keep making newer ideas for Mario & not copy others.
Learning and copying are 2 different things
Really? Hahaha😂.... God...
Ok no Mario is way better especially since it’s the original idea
next mario:
all toads will dress up like astro bot
*eye roll*
While we're at it,
How Astro Bot is better than Tetris
I GOT F&$NG JUMPSCARED BY AN ADD OF PEPPA PIG THAT USES THE DEMONIC TRAIN SFX THAT GOBBLEGUT MAKES ON ITS 0:00 SECOND!
speaking of wich, this game thankfully doesn't uses said demonic sfx when steam pops up
Love these ideas!!!
A great hub world is worst take, Observatory in galaxy is peak Hub world, Observatory >>> Gruntilda's Lar >>>>>>> astro bot hub
Nah arguably astro rewards you alot more
@@RocketSlime no. and cry
Back up your claim, because it's devoid of anything to do other than collect some lives. It has nice atmosphere, but it's empty.
4:32 Mario has a tiny mushroom option lol did the person writing the script not know that?
Yes,the Mini Mushroom. Of course that came to mind. But it doesn't fit in organically nearly as well as Astro Bot, which is my point. How it recontexulised areas that doesn't necessarily look like they were built exclusively for tiny size
Also the ability to freely change between the two greatly affects what you can do with the size differences, allowing for puzzles and situations not otherwise possible
That just makes mario small, it doesn't change the perspective like it does in astrobot
@@GameXplain okay I see what you mean
But that doesn't mean that it can't be improved still
Honestly, aside of the boss battles, I don't think that the things you listed are something that Mario really needs for a better experience...
@@grayfox4819 You can enjoy BOTH Astro Bot and Mario at the same time.
@@grayfox4819 Astro Bot and Mario can exist harmoniously. I love this game but I also love Mario as well. You can love multiple games at the same time you know.
Oh yeah, go tell that to all the people who sold their Switches and came to hate all Nintendo games only because Astro Bot became a thing...
Where's the review video?!
The best on this game there is Mario Odyssey
Astro Bot is goty!Mario?no one bought it at all🤣😂
He didn't play Mario Odyssey. Astro bot is Mario Odyssey PlayStation skin.
With lesser MARIO SUNSHINE mechanics.
Just...no. that's factually wrong lol
What about sales?
Haven’t played Mario odyssey since its release but it is almost forgettable, hate to compare the 2 but if I had to compare the 2 Astro Bot wins. The crisps clean 4K 60fps gameplay and 80 plus tracks of memorable music, only Mario Galaxy series is comparable.
It's just you
I didn't even know astro bot existed till now.
Nintendo certainly does not need to take notes from a game that shamelessly rips them off, especially when it's arguably the most valuable gaming franchise in the industry.
Even because, boss fights aside, Mario doesn't really need the things the guy listed to be better as it is right now...
Recency bias tbh
At least someone out there still says the thing that needs saying.
This is the most annoying hype wave in quite a while.
Based video
I prefer the stars to the robot rescues.
Astro Bot's personality >>> Mario the last 15 years. 🗿
playstation love fun games
I totally agree 100%. But I'm sure Nintendo will never listen like they never have. Prove me wrong. ...Please prove me wrong.
Get lost.
To be honest, I totally agree. Even though I like the Mario Bros. Games, most of them felt basic and stale after a while. I really want to try out this game and I really miss Donkey Kong Country Returns, and I really want to try Tropical Freeze. Astro Bot is an amazing game and I really hope I can get hands on that game. I have never played Most of the 3D Mario games, I've only played 64 DS and 3D Land, but what you said was completely true that saving other characters during your mission in Astro Bot is better than just Collecting stars too much in the 3D Mario games. Nintendo Needs to improve with 3D Mario.
I don't think you've played enough 3D Mario games to totally agree. 🤷♂️
@@1JAM229 I did watch videos of the other 3D Mario Games and that's the reason I agree.
you know that super mario 64 is 28 years old.
@ignatiousmary8413 Watching gameplay videos is nowhere close to experiencing the games for yourself.
Why they need to improve 3D Mario when you never played 3D Mario? 64 DS is awful for the controls and 3D Land is 2D/3D. I agree that they could look for inspiration in Astro Bot but the doomsplaining here is killing me 😂😂
No
Wow a lot more cussing in this video.
