there's a lot of comments here about the content and meaning of the video and I thought I'd explain a little bit. this video is supposed to be a "reincarnation" of the moment when coco Chanel was inspired to create one of her signature looks, which is the collarless jacket with bold trimmings, which was inspired by a bell boy at a hotel she stayed at in Austria. Karl asked Pharrell to compose something for this movie that is similar to Austrian music and to put his own spin on it, which would be why he is featured in the video. Cara's character is mischievous and while she is shown mocking the portrait it's clear she also would desire something more than this life she's living working in this hotel. this feeling is suggested not only through her actions but also in the song which talks about seeing the world. the video is an attempt to recreate the environment in which Chanel found an inspiration and is also giving a fictional backstory to characters she may have seen at the time.
Hey FUCKERS, ^ SHE MAKES A WHOLE LOT OF SENSE IF YOU PULL YOUR HEAD OUT YOUR ASSES & LOOK FOR MORE ANSWERS RATHER THAN THE ONES YOUR PEA BRAINS COME UP WITH...... & PHARREL HAD AN EQUAL PERFORMANCE TO CARA'S PERFORMANCE..................................................
"Reincarnation" is used as a descriptive way of taking vintage/classic fashion or style (the bellhop's jacket for example) and making it new again, basically a reincarnation. The Chanel (Chapman) character famous for style and fashion eyes the jacket and takes an interest in it, "I shall make it for me." The portraits coming to life is another play on "reincarnation" as the clothing (CHANEL Paris-Salzburg 2014/15 Métiers d'art) line created/developed was themed/created/inspired by the fashion of this particular era. "Everything old is new again." Fashion transcends time. But hey, what do I know. CC (CoCo), see (literal), SiSi (Elizabth) are all used...it's art!
Why are people saying "why all of a sudden is cara delevingne singing?" She has been posting a couple of covers on youtube for a while just for fun. In an interview she said she doesn't want to be a singer. Cara just likes doing it for fun and enjoys it. But, in my opinion I think she's really a pretty good singer! :)
She's pretty good. Her voice has a lot of character to it, and I think it's interesting. If she wanted to sing, she could probably do it with a little bit of work just for support and such. I liked it.
To all of you hating and saying senseless stuff: This shows the origins of the Chanel jacket, inspired by the one worn by the lift attendant in a hotel near Salzburg in the 1950s," says Lagerfeld. "Reincarnation is the story of a lift attendant’s jacket being reincarnated as a timeless piece of women’s wear. And yes Geraldine Chaplin is portraying Gabrielle 'Coco' Chanel. The story follows a chapter in the life of the legendary designer, who is holidaying in the suburbs of Salzburg in 1954. At her hotel where she meets a young lift-boy. (played by Williams)
For those who think that the boy is saying 'see see' or 'cc'.. he is actually saying 'Sissi', who is also known as empress Elisabeth of Austria. They recreated her iconic look on Cara. :)

Okay, I'm confused after watching this and have a few questions: 1. What is the theme or story behind this music video(or short film if you want to call it that)? Is it related to history of medieval Europe or something? 2. Why is there a portrait of a black Aristocrat(or king or royalty) in the supposedly medieval time Europe(that's some country in Europe right?). I thought we didn't have blacks of that stature in that point of time. 3. So, why is everyone reincarnated working in the same Hotel? 4. Why did Cara Delevigne push that MALE WAITER AND RUN when everyone was watching? 5. Why is that old lady interested in Pharell's uniform and why did he say that it's made for him.I thought it was a very common attire for a bell-boy at that time. 6. Why are they dancing in the night coming out of portrait's? Is it a dream of Pharell's or are they Ghosts or just an artistic impression of stuff I don't understand and who is the creepy Kid who sings C.C in the song and why is his portrait in the hotel lobby along with the other two? 7. And why is Pharell , a mere Bell-boy allowed to sleep in the chair in the hotel lobby during the day when several high profile clients will be moving through.Isn't this frowned upon? 8. Were those 2 lesbians in the video at the start who came supposedly to a meeting with the Hotel Manager(Owner) and the Old lady. Is lesbian thought even permitted in that age? 9. Why are the Hotel keys in the shape of the Illuminati symbol(Pyramid) 10. At the start waitress Cara Delevingne poses before the portrait of presumably past life version of her. So does she know she looks strikingly similar to a very powerful person? And what about pharell as he is staring right into his portrait all the time while standing as bell boy? 11. Finally,Why do the portrait versions of Cara and Pharell break their royal and graceful steps and do some , you know, modern steps like waving hands and stuff.does all of this have some inner meaning that I'm supposed to interpret but can't. But I think the Video was well made with some very good music complementing it. Cara Delevingne looks stunning and regal.Yeah I know a Lot of questions.Anyone if you can answer atleast some of the questions that would be greatly appreciated. Thank You. #Chanel #karllagerfeld #pharrellwilliams #caradelevingne
Wait,I just noticed a modern electric Vacuum cleaner at the end!!!! What!! Does this mean all of this was happening in the modern times!!! Then why is everyone dressed and acting like they were in the medieval times?? I don't know what to say anymore.
5. she was interested as she thought it was a nice piece of clothing. It was only made for him as he was the only bell boy in the hotel so it was custom made for that hotel. 6. He is saying "si si" as in yes 7. because he has been on duty 24/7 and it was in the very early hours of the morning 8. No they were either friends or business partners. 9. they are old fashion keys they were always shaped like that in hotels. 10. Yes she does that is why she is posing as her as she was a cheeky character. Pharell was not looking at it he was looking straight forward towards a blank wall. 11. It was just a bit of fun.
I loved reading your questions !!!!! a lot of the story did not add up very confusing ....... the only thing i am gathering is the real old lady was " coco chanel " and the chanel jacket was born from the look of the bell boy???
Maia Mattisse Thank You for taking the time to help me understand the video a little better! Really Appreciate it:) RAJESH ST. VALENTINE Thanks Man!! And that was Coco Chanel then!! Good One
So im going to assume tgat since you're watching this you know the brand Chanel. 1. This a short story for the brand chanel so the theme of the story is about Coco Chanel deciding she wanted to become a clothes designer (the old lady is portraying Coco Chanel). 2. You're right about that, blacks weren't really allowed to be of royalty but since Pharell(the singer) is a good friend of the house of Chanel and they wanted to keep him in the film they changed the story a bit. 3.The title of the film 'reincarnation doesn't refer to everyone being reincarnated, like i said before the purpose of this film is to tell the story of how Coco( the designer) decided to create Chanel (the brand). 4. Her character in this film is of a young playful girl, so she was just being playful as a part of her character.
+Daniel YN Silva That's not what I meant. I know the general "awkward" and mysterious feeling is on purpose but I meant the acting and the flow which seemed unnatural and wooden to me.
I may have commented on this video before when I first saw it here but to the person who commented about not seeing KL's vision, I believe it was his vision of Coco Chanel's history of her designs and how they came to be. I don't care if I'm right or wrong, I absolutely love this video. Pharrell and Cara sang and looked beautiful together.
I'm not sure how I feel about this short film. There's a lot going on. I'm a little confused at why Cara Delvingne pushed the waiter?? Is that suppose to be playfulness?? It comes off a little cruel too me. I like the song, I think its unique. The cloths were perfection. I greatly appreciated the fashion and intimacy of the film. Cara was lovely in the film and Pharrell such a handsome man with great bone structure just seemed a little odd during the dance sequence. Not that he was uncomfortable in front of the camera I think it was the dancing aspect that kind of threw me for a loop. This is just my view point. Please don't take offense. I think it was a well executed short film. It felt like you were really in the film with the characters. Well done Chanel. My favorite still is the Chanel no5 w/ the re-interpenetration of the song "your the one that I want".
Stella Paradis There's a previous CHANEL movie called "The Return" (I think it's from 2013) in which Geraldine Chaplin also stars as Coco Chanel. So it's basically the same "character", but in a different movie and time period.
What a great job Karl Lagerfeld did directing this!! You can never go wrong with Pharrell & Cara! Great composing & acting guys, I was right in the fairy tale with you. 🙌😎💃😘💖
Mari Hood Not everybody is entitled to their opinion. Idiots are not entitled to their opinion. Which is why internet sucks because everybody and their mother thinks they are smart, special and have something to say. Which in reality is not true. There are smart people, there are artistic people and there are idiots. Why should an idiot be allowed to say anything?
I thought exactly the same! Although I do have to add that Cara has a very perfect face to pull off the regal 80's fantasy look. She even has a very classic painting look too, so the whole thing worked well.
marmelade721 Considering the look they're referencing from the Labyrinth was inspired by the grandiose ball gowns of several European time periods, it actually doesn't matter if they know their European history for their comment to ring true.
This is the 1st Chanel film i didn't like at all. To me it was bad, from the very start to the very end of it, from the small details to things in general. From tiny things like very skinny models wearing dirndl, and don't get me wrong i'm not skinny-shaming, but it's dirndl, huge decollete looks just ridiculous, this one of the those rare cases where a bigger model would look better but they still choose skinny.Cara as the waitress... weird. Why was she acting like this ? She is a waitress in an expensive hotel, yet she jumps on chairs with her shoes on, poses in front of a portrait of an Empress a bit...mockingly ? And then she pushes a waiter rather hard while he is doing his job. What the hell was that ? Is this supposed to be playful ? Cute ? Well, it wasn't, it was just a rather disgusting attitude. And then a girl with an attitude becomes Empress Elisabeth of Austria. Hmm... ok. I see a lot of comments here about Pharrell Williams not fitting for this role, but i actually think he was fine.Cara on the other hand, everyone seem to say she is oh so good at acting. Srsly ? She showed 0 emotion through this short film. She can grimace and make faces but when it comes to acting she can't seem to do anything at all. Pharrell was better. The dance was devoid of any grace. They were both wooden. All together it gave an impression of trying too hard, creators playing footsie with the audience: "give them some Cara! Oh make her a bad girl, people like bad girls... and Pharrell, they love him so lets add him too ! Oh and lets make them do some modern dancing while wearing those fancy costumes, isn't that what youngsters love these days ?"
No matter how harsh these comments are one thing is for certain- Cara is a fantastic actress. Look at the emotion in her face! Can't wait for Paper Towns.
This was so cool. I love how after over 20 years in music & art in general, Pharrell manages to transcend into other avenues of displaying his talents (movie scores, video games, things like this mini-movie w/ Chanel, etc.) and still maintain this sense of humbleness he possesses. He's like a kid that loves doin' science projects not taking in the fact that he aces them every time.....he just loves what he does.
To have the Chanel brand associated with imperfect, poised, and 'not uptight' Cara, smooth African American Pharrell, and the royal lore of empress sisi
They were royals in disguise. Treated like servants. But it is who you are inside that makes you, not what everyone else thinks of you. The scenes of them dancing in the dark represent how they can be who they truly are only in the shadows, away from everyone that makes them feel like less than. At least that's what I think.
I think I just fell in love with this song. It just created a magical world that I never wanna leave. I always thought Cara delavigne was just another model but she seems so cool... time to go learn as much about her as I can!
When you listen closely, the CC The World lyrics discuss not seeing the true beauty in things until you open your eyes, which I think was the whole point of this film. Just as Cara and Pharrell became glorious, elegant, etc. after they were shown to us, the audience, as distasteful and boring, Coco was able to turn the ordinary tweed jacket that was normally looked down upon (because you would only catch lift attendants wearing them, and I doubt lift attendants were given the highest of respect). She allowed everyone to see how beautiful it could be, and now it's a signature Chanel piece that everyone loves. You have to read in between the lines...
Trying too hard. That's what this production screams. If Karl focused on designing instead of other things he might actually put out designs that everyday women can wear, just like what Coco Chanel herself envisioned her house to do.
with all due respect, I fear you are talking nonsense. Fashion is above all else a kind of Art. you say that chanel first thought of 'designs that everyday women can wear'. Well, I doubt it very much. Chanel is far beyond this matters either now or in the past.
+Jerikoh O'Cru Well let me explain this to you: the main porpuse of fashion is to be weared by people, not to be"ART" as you say. So is clear that karl fails at creating designs that woman can actually use in everyday life, unlike Coco Chanel who created icon clothing and will always be remembered for that. I really doubt karl will be remembered as her ;)
So the song is called "CC The World" for Chanel obviously. The lady in the black short hair is Gabrielle Chanel and at the end she asks the elevator guy "Where did you get that jacket?" and he says " They only made it for me." Then she says "Well I, am going to make it, for me." The jacket is transformed into a women's jacket. So it's the inspiration for The Chanel jacket. Get it?
there's a lot of comments here about the content and meaning of the video and I thought I'd explain a little bit. this video is supposed to be a "reincarnation" of the moment when coco Chanel was inspired to create one of her signature looks, which is the collarless jacket with bold trimmings, which was inspired by a bell boy at a hotel she stayed at in Austria. Karl asked Pharrell to compose something for this movie that is similar to Austrian music and to put his own spin on it, which would be why he is featured in the video. Cara's character is mischievous and while she is shown mocking the portrait it's clear she also would desire something more than this life she's living working in this hotel. this feeling is suggested not only through her actions but also in the song which talks about seeing the world. the video is an attempt to recreate the environment in which Chanel found an inspiration and is also giving a fictional backstory to characters she may have seen at the time.

love her dress OMGGG
Okay, I'm confused after watching this and have a few questions:
9. Why are the Hotel keys in the shape of the Illuminati symbol(Pyramid)
Thank You.
#Chanel #karllagerfeld
#pharrellwilliams #caradelevingne
Wait,I just noticed a modern electric Vacuum cleaner at the end!!!! What!! Does this mean all of this was happening in the modern times!!! Then why is everyone dressed and acting like they were in the medieval times?? I don't know what to say anymore.
5. she was interested as she thought it was a nice piece of clothing. It was only made for him as he was the only bell boy in the hotel so it was custom made for that hotel.
6. He is saying "si si" as in yes
7. because he has been on duty 24/7 and it was in the very early hours of the morning
Really Appreciate it:)
RAJESH ST.
Даже Фаррелл и Кара танцуют локтями
Ахахах
CHANEL 👍Wonderful
The music was cool, but the directing could've been much much better. Everything felt unnatural and awkward.
I think that's what they were going for. Like a painting reincarnation is supposed to be normal?

+Coyote W It seems that was the intention. It seems off on purpose.
+Daniel YN Silva That's not what I meant. I know the general "awkward" and mysterious feeling is on purpose but I meant the acting and the flow which seemed unnatural and wooden to me.
.
This totally makes no sense, but that's the third time i watch it
sameeeee!
right!
same. Ô.o
It's a story behind Coco Chanel's iconic jacket

Fab Jennie b. Bin
cara is an extremely good singer a triple threat a model, singer and actress
Warning: This song will remain stuck in your head. Mild symptoms include singing along at random times of the day.
Its been years and it stays in my head
@@asaa-d well my teacher showed me this months ago and well it still is in mah head
Is that supposed to be Coco Chanel in the end?
Yes
Yes this shows how she got the idea for the infamous chanel blazer
Yes people approached her earlier in the movie and called her Coco
SassyandalwaysClassy 2:24, Chanel
Stella Paradis There's a previous CHANEL movie called "The Return" (I think it's from 2013) in which Geraldine Chaplin also stars as Coco Chanel. So it's basically the same "character", but in a different movie and time period.
Love the song, very beautiful video.
I don't know why but I just keep coming back to watch this video...I love the dress so much!
People who didn't know Cara could sing, please check "Cara Delevingne-Sticks & Stones" ;)

What a great job Karl Lagerfeld did directing this!! You can never go wrong with Pharrell & Cara! Great composing & acting guys, I was right in the fairy tale with you. 🙌😎💃😘💖
Yes, I love Cara. This film was pretty good too!
***** Cara is my favorite model right now. I love her fun attitude!! 🙌🙌🙌😍😍😍
Yes, I know right. She sees like a girl I could talk to about anything.
***** no doubt! I'm sure she and I would be best friends if we knew each other. Lol☝️💯👍😘
:)
I didnt knew cara could sing
Well, she could sing she could model she could act she could play the drums she's beautiful and the list goes on and on
+Merve Buyukalp yup ☺️
Still don't. Born rich, she was.
Honestly Cara outsung Pharell, he sounded terrible in this
I don't think she can actually sing... They can do so many things with computers this days!
Does Anyone find this creepy?
It freaked me out
MEE!
YES - very!!
a little bit, I must confess. I think it's the song.
I was expecting a completely different thing.
This Film its so beautiful. Her voices are amazing. Cara you are amazing
Sissi and franz joseph? 💗
Yesss😍
That's what it reminded me of too!

This is just pretentious, pointless and boring.
Bravo!!! Totally true!!!
agree
why'd you watch it then. no need to trash talk someone's hard work just because they make more money than you.
if I hadn't watched it I wouldn't have known what is like, simple as that. Everyone can express their opinions here in the comment section
latte macchiato you can dpo it without hurting other people's feelings
SooDreamy✨💫🌟
I love Cara as Empress Sissi! She looks really original and beautiful
her dress has a very labyrinth vibe to it esp her hair
I thought exactly the same! Although I do have to add that Cara has a very perfect face to pull off the regal 80's fantasy look. She even has a very classic painting look too, so the whole thing worked well.
non. ds. Oui
marmelade721 Considering the look they're referencing from the Labyrinth was inspired by the grandiose ball gowns of several European time periods, it actually doesn't matter if they know their European history for their comment to ring true.

I loved it..thank you Karl
Agreed absolutely.
I think that this role Cara sat well because Sisi was a supporter of skinny girls !!!!
I find it interesting that your response started from questioning, to dislike, to mockery.
That were exactly my thought while watching the movie. What a waste.
sissi was anorexic
No matter how harsh these comments are one thing is for certain- Cara is a fantastic actress. Look at the emotion in her face! Can't wait for Paper Towns.
Lol not really :')
Cara is cosmos 🤗🤘🥰 Amazing and beautiful 💙🤗🤘 Cara is much more than simply model 😮😮😮😮 She is iconic 😘😘😘
This was lovely!! :)

Can't believe no one in Austria even cared for this, this is gorgeous.
THIS WORKS ON SO MANY LEVELS
@4:22 "little kid in the background going craaaazaaaay!" hahahaha
Karls godson.
I love this so bad OMG
This was amazing…
Bizarre and wonderful
I think this is nice. No idea why people would hate on it.
some people don't understand it. Pharrell was asked to do an Austrian style piece based on a particular story.
8.1 dislikes are les miserables standing at a delicatessen for sabotaging the video with some sandwiches
Cara looks so gorgeous
This was so cool. I love how after over 20 years in music & art in general, Pharrell manages to transcend into other avenues of displaying his talents (movie scores, video games, things like this mini-movie w/ Chanel, etc.) and still maintain this sense of humbleness he possesses. He's like a kid that loves doin' science projects not taking in the fact that he aces them every time.....he just loves what he does.
Kind of insinuates that Coco Chanel just copied the jacket that is her most iconic design...
km
ccvvh
i mean this is apparently how she got the idea for this jacket
Designers call it ,"inspiration." Reinventing. Bringing back a classic.
Hola soy tymyda
From Lagerfeld World ! Fantastik !! Cara v'got very attractive eyes !! Miss Chanel is Wonderfull ! Like evidence , Karl is always the Kaiser !
so whats the point of this video?
make us lost 7:47 min. of our life and make us feel like we should dance in weird dresses
To have the Chanel brand associated with imperfect, poised, and 'not uptight' Cara, smooth African American Pharrell, and the royal lore of empress sisi
+downDOGMA this
They were royals in disguise. Treated like servants. But it is who you are inside that makes you, not what everyone else thinks of you. The scenes of them dancing in the dark represent how they can be who they truly are only in the shadows, away from everyone that makes them feel like less than. At least that's what I think.
that Cara is Queen
Im addicted to this movie!😻
Beautiful 📶👏👏
CHANEL 👍Wonderful👏👏🗾すばらしい👏👏🗾Japan Seiji~~
It has absolutely no fucking sense, but cara's worth the whole eight minutes
If Cara can dance then she can do every thing sing, act, beatbox, she's a model and is funny the whole package not only she is beautiful
Superb and thank you very much.
i dont understand the storyline?
me too..
บาบี้
it's about empress sisi of Áustria, the cc is for Coco Chanel and sisi. she came alive again in the looby boy's dream
and in the end when she asks him about the jacket it's the moment of creation of the chanel suit
+joab vicente so you're saying that the chanel suit was inspired by a bell boy suit????
The intro reminds me of The Originals TV series and imagine Cara as one of the original vampires.
That'd be so cool!
Emoji - ,
pharrell looks like marcel too lol
Mango Pie gg he y.cgÂtßdt
weeaboo princess haha true!
I come back to this every now and then, it's so well done!
This is the best brand film ever !
Damn, why am I just hearing this?
MsAllGoodNameTAKEN That's the exact thought I had.
MsAllGoodNameTAKEN same here...

pues si a mi igual me encanto ❤❤❤🙈 más que todo x Cara ❤❤❤❤🙈
Her voice is pretty average. She can sing but reading the comments I was really expecting something extraordinary.
Masood khawar Me aussi!
usman a she’s not ugly
Respect Gabrielle Chasnel plz 🐱🐱🐱
4:19 what a beauty ✨💫☀️
Trying too hard. That's what this production screams. If Karl focused on designing instead of other things he might actually put out designs that everyday women can wear, just like what Coco Chanel herself envisioned her house to do.
+Ace Referiza Agreed.
with all due respect, I fear you are talking nonsense. Fashion is above all else a kind of Art. you say that chanel first thought of 'designs that everyday women can wear'. Well, I doubt it very much. Chanel is far beyond this matters either now or in the past.
+Ace Referiza AMEN!
+Ace Referiza SOOO TRUE!! this video is kinda stupid and nonsense and to be honest i don't like ANY of lagerfeld designs so...
I really doubt karl will be remembered as her ;)
A - Don’t be blind
B - open to see
Could she be the girl, to help me
C - C the world!
Such clever writing🖖🏾
This sounds really good
This is my favorite Chanel short film. :-)
This is Art
Very lovely fashion house work love
Wow
Ngl I'm only here for Cara's bit
SAME
❤❤❤ my happy song! 😊
Get it?
beautifully made how can anyone not like it?💕
