He'd be viewed as a legend, not an all-time top 5 player. It's not a coincidence he has the least amount of rings in the general top 5. They protect their heritage. Look how they reduce Kobe. When it's their own they amplify them. The great hope thing is real. LA has better role players than AR, but he gets celebrated & placed on murals. Bird has a folk tale about a "left handed game". Firstly, he is left handed, tho his dominant basketball hand is his right. Secondly, he took about 10 shots w his left that ALL consisted of layups, a couple of floaters & a couple of dunks. I'm positively certain IT saw the extreme sensationalism & glory Bird got in comparison 2 the other all-time greats of the time. Same thing w Caitlin. You can't say 10/28 was a horrible performance & that's simply why Iowa lost, but they'll rip Kobe 4 going 6/24 in a win. Y'all keep caping 4 them.

I just couldn't disagree any more with this sentiment...that black athletes need to do something other than simply dominate to get attention. That take is inarguably, objectively inaccurate. If you switch the skin colors, at least there are situational examples of it, but even then, it's not all that prevalent. I think we're conflating the fact that covering athletes has become covering them as people, as well as players, because fans are of course interested in what high level athletes do when they're not doing their thing. What Jemele, & so many others, are doing by saying these types of things about CC is they're dramatically underselling her sheer greatness. The irony is, if she were black, they'd be falling all over themselves to talk about how she's an all-timer who has single-handedly changed the game & elevated it to all new heights, bringing all girls & women up with her. They'd spend so much time examining how much more money all female athletes will make as a result of her play, instead of shrugging & basically saying "I mean, she's OK, but come on...y'all only excited 'cause she's white." It's just disingenuous racially motivated ill-will.

They always support young talent coming from college to the NBA , because ultimately they know it will grow the game. Yes they maintain their competitiveness, let the young blood know that you have to prove yourself, but always you got the sense that there is respect. As much as it hurt me to say it ,at the risk of being called sexist, I think it’s not a race issue with Clark ,it’s more of a woman issue, they are jealous of her plain and simple. It’s not racial. It’s business. Caitlin Clark draws more crowds in arenas and broadcasts. More fans means more coverages. At this point, the new breed of women ballers (Clark’s, Reese’s, Cardoso’s, Brink’s) have more fans than the WNBA. The WNBA needs to embrace this new wave of popularity, just like what the NBA did in the 80s with Magic v Bird. NBA was bankrupted before these legends came. Stop hating.

Caitlan is a new thing and deserves the hype. Saying Black athletes don't get the attention is delusional. LeBron isn't a super Talent, He's Hollywood hype. The NBA is dying, not because of talent. The sports leagues have taken it upon themselves to promote certain players for their own narrative. They dissed the fans by not letting them pick who they thought were the players of note. Caitlan was a people's choice, her fan base grew from grade school through High school and College. She rewarded her fans with superior play, breaking the mold of previous players with humility and grace. When I first saw her play on a highlight reel, my 1st thought was cherrypicked video, but then to watch her in a college game shooting multiple, consecutive deep 3's is impressive, and her court IQ and passing are good. Her Breaking of Pete Maravich's scoring record, multiple awards, and championships back up the eye test. The idea that focusing attention on the #1 draft pick is racial in some way, shows just how destructive envy can be and when coupled with a destructive narrative can take what could be a boon to the careers of all in the sport, and transform it into a toxic stew. Millions of fans now are looking at the WNBA, CC brought them there. I know because I'm one of them. I'm already starting to tune out because the sports media and players are trying to force feed me their agenda, instead of letting me choose and letting the organic process occur. If allowed to grow organically, fans will form bonds with teams and players they enjoy, if force fed they will rebel and turn away. Look at the NBA, a shadow of its former self. The Iowa playoff game drew more viewers than the NBA playoffs, Why? Caitlan Clark.

If the media hypes someone to me and I go watch them, if I'm not impressed I don't go back, you dig? Caitlin is bringing fans back. The PEOPLE vote on who's the GOAT with their ticket purchases and other spending like buying Jordans shoes. Other players are expressing their jealousies and biases. Ask the fans, not the other players! If you are great the PEOPLE will recognize it. Who's the GOAT in any sport? Ask yourself how the PEOPLE are responding to them? There is no need to debate. @@standan1 Rings don't make a player the Goat. If that's the case tell me who is the GOAT right of women's basketball? you can't name one. Particularly, in college. Teams win championships not great players. Jordan didn't win rings until he got the right supporting cast. And Bron been to 100 finals without winning. Rings can be a factor if you comparing two players but to say because someone didn't win the one-and-done March Madness doesn't make sense. You need some luck in that tournament . Horry has 7rings and Russell has 11. And a college player only plays 4 years so you can't put that on them. S. Carolina has 10 starters! You can't say Caitlin has to beat them or anyone else can beat 10 starters. And it's not hyping her...the hype follows the attention you get from the fans. The fans like to see Caitlin play. Period! She disproved her own point by bringing up Kelsey Plum but didn’t realize it. Kelsey set the all time college record while scoring 54 points and then went to the WNBA and nothing happened like what Caitlin has brought to the league. Kelsey is straight, white, attractive and a record scorer. But her style of play is like comparing any typical NBA player to Steph Curry. No one gets excited watching Plum. Tiger woods, the William sisters and pk subban all got the same type of love when they dominated in predominantly white sports as well. And the dude pk wasn’t even dominant he was just good for a bit. This mindset got to stop.
