I've loved every genre Courtney has sung. However, when she sings rock & blues, I feel that's the sweet spot for her voice . . . It's where her voice best lives, her wheelhouse. The 60’s were really tough times for a woman with an opinion, free spirit and most amazing talent. Plus drugs and alcohol were really promoted a lot. Saying “no” to drugs and alcohol put a person on the outskirts of social life. So there were a lot of demands on a free spirit like Janis. A lot of Legends never got to play with the New York Philharmonic . I grew up with all the old bands and I saw Courtney when she sang ( piece of my heart) She was 13 years old. She is so special For her age and has that special raspy voice. She has been told by Paul McCartney she can redo some of his old songs.Dolly Parton has said she will go right to the top

I'm glad she paid homage to Janis Joplin with her performance and with her words to the audience beforehand, but I'm also glad she didn't strictly try to exactly duplicate any one of Janis' performances of this song vocally. As usual, she clearly paid homage and emulated her 'virtual mentor' (in this case, Janis Joplin), but she also did this performance in her own way. Did she try (quite successfully) to remind the audience of a young Janice as she started singing? Hell yeah! But she didn't slavishly copy Janice's exact performance. She let us see HER own capabilities and skills, too. Love it. Respectful. Thankful. Yet not trying to act out a whole song exactly Janice's way of performing it. Brought the audience in with initial emulation of Janice's mannerisms, and with her vocal performance, but then let her own natural voice shine through for a bit before ramping up the vocal squall technique for much of the rest of the song, with one truly notable exception as she cleanly switched over to her own gorgeous, clean, clear pianissimo falsetto right after delivering some memorable raspy lines just loaded with texture. Amazing near-instantaneous shift! Seriously skilled youngster! Can't wait to see her career take off. Frankly, I'm a tad surprised at the one tepid mention her performance got in NYC's press. Some of the pro's in front row of seats were clearly pretty damned impressed. As, it's reported by fans attending, did the rest of the audience who gave her a pretty noisy standing ovation. We shall see what happens when her long-delayed (by labels) now-independent debut album comes out.

Note also that young Ms. Courtney was ALSO quite a fan of Ms. Aretha Franklin, Erma's sister. There are a LOT of reasons why this song resonates strongly with our young superstar-in-the-making, Courtney Hadwin. Her experience up till now in the music industry is only one of them. I'm glad she paid homage to Janis Joplin with her performance and with her words to the audience beforehand, but I'm also glad she didn't strictly try to exactly duplicate any one of Janis' performances of this song vocally.
As usual, she clearly paid homage and emulated her 'virtual mentor' (in this case, Janis Joplin), but she also did this performance in her own way. Did she try (quite successfully) to remind the audience of a young Janice as she started singing? Hell yeah! But she didn't slavishly copy Janice's exact performance. She let us see HER own capabilities and skills, too. Love it. Respectful. Thankful. Yet not trying to act out a whole song exactly Janice's way of performing it. Brought the audience in with initial emulation of Janice's mannerisms, and with her vocal performance, but then let her own natural voice shine through for a bit before ramping up the vocal squall technique for much of the rest of the song, with one truly notable exception as she cleanly switched over to her own gorgeous, clean, clear pianissimo falsetto right after delivering some memorable raspy lines just loaded with texture. Amazing near-instantaneous shift! Seriously skilled youngster!
Can't wait to see her career take off. Frankly, I'm a tad surprised at the one tepid mention her performance got in NYC's press. Some of the pro's in front row of seats were clearly pretty damned impressed. As, it's reported by fans attending, did the rest of the audience who gave her a pretty noisy standing ovation. We shall see what happens when her long-delayed (by labels) now-independent debut album comes out.
