      You've got to walk three floors down to a squatting toilet in the public bathroom if you need answer the call of nature in the middle of the night . The nearest town with modern facilities is a one-hour drive away. Live there? Maybe stay there for 3 days treating it as a camping trip.

    China is beautifying the villages in big scale. Zhejiang province started this more than 15 years ago and has almost 70% done. The plan is to clean the house and public space. Install waste water treatment. Collect and separate the garbage. Redevelop the country side. Relocate those not suitable to live or too remote. There is a movement in Zhejiang to restore historical villages. Keep the original architecture but with modern wash rooms. So Village people can continue living in those villages and enjoy modern facilities too.

      Sounds like a great idea. Keep the old buildings but renovate them so they can last another century. China has so much stunning historic architecture. History matters.

    Bless the elderly there, thank you for your amazing piece I thoroughly enjoyed this program. I especially enjoyed your little conversation with the couple cooking rice ! The elderly represent the deep pure meaning of Tao. Blessed. Part of my upbringing was Hakka so this is very close to home for me. My music was also featured in a documentary about the same structures. If interested it’s called THE LAST CLAN (Hakka) by Empty Mind Films. Enjoy the content of my original music on my channel too sometime. Best wishes to all !!

    The faces of the elderly Chinese made me sad, they look so forlorn: as if their world is gone, their real treasures lost. Tourism is good and brings income, but why are only a few houses allowed to host visors? Why are the other houses allowed to decline and fall apart? I am Indian and even my own ancient architecture is dying. At least UNESCO gave your houses the World Heritage tag. Please save all of them. They are very nice....

    How fascinating! Thanks for sharing such an informative video. A visit to Fujian is on my bucket list. Which is the best zone to view Fujian tulou?

  • @Sullivanin
    @Sullivanin 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Very sad indeed. Wish the local government would invest in the area to create a self subsistence economy that involve older people, like handicraft, etc that does not require great physical strength. Then with the generated resource these buildings can be maintained and perhaps give them a sense of meaning to their dawn of life.

    • @lorascelsi8102
      @lorascelsi8102 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Seems like this problem is worldwide. Renovating old buildings is the best solution. It gives young people jobs and elderly can stay in their homes. The old buildings are what most people love anyhow, especially if they are fixed up. Give developers tax breaks to renovate old buildings. Perhaps tearing down so many old building is contributing to pollution and natural disasters.

    Did you make and comment this movie yourself? Extremely high quality movie. If that is you that's talking then your english and mandarin are very good, especially because you are polish?/czech?/.....?

    • @ktkska8886
      @ktkska8886 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      The narrator obviously doesn't know Mandarin because he has pronounced all Chinese phrases wrong. The interviewer who spoke Mandarin to the resident sounded like a sissy guy. I not a Mainlander but I know people who built and live in Tulous are Hakkas, immigrants from the north to the south. And that guy with a creepy tone asked if they spoke Hokkien.

    Hey POV! Great Movie short. Hey ! I dont want to appear Tacky but you should Title yourself (and Trademark) POV Movie or such. Lotsa hits maybe. Your shortened Name "POV" could also mean Point Of View.
    My Friends and My Crush Huanhuan 欢欢(张欢)are from Fujian Fuzhou. I never asked them if they were near the Tulou. I will do that this week. :-)
    Huahuan however, has moved to New York and I terribly miss her. :-(
    欢欢(张欢)我好想你!
    By the way, Your Mandarin is very good. How did you learn it so well? The Locals in Zhongguo?
    I hope someday I can be fluent in the Language. and Still continue my drills/ study.
    Hey! Maybe do a Movie on The Music scene in Beijing? It has been done though by THe Sound Stage. Their channel is pretty entertaining.
    Good luck man!
    I follow to see what else you come up with.
    Cheers Pov!

    The Tolou actually represents isolation. It was similar to a modern day gated community. I don't find the Tolou attractive at all.
