During Covid, the LCBO was considered an essential service and was open for sales. I thought essential services were not allowed to strike???
Politics.
There’s still booze available for the desperate at bars, restaurants, some grocery stores, wine shops and micro brew pubs. Restaurants and bars are still able to buy booze for their businesses.
@@62Cristoforo and you can still order from the LCBO online with free shipping!

Great! More reasons not to have a forced government monopoly on Alcohol distribution
Just because the government can make money off it, doesn't make it right.
@@dawsonholdsworth5371you’re takes pretty short sighted. The lcbo is one of Ontario’s last revenue generators for the province. Just under 3 billion a year. Roads, schools, healthcare etc. was bad enough when Wynn chopped up the casinos and hydro not to
Mention the 407. But this is truly awful and will lead to privatized healthcare. Anyone who’s actually paying attention can tell you the same. Or a quick google search should clear things up, cheers.
LCBO is not the problem the problem is the greedy union representing the hard working employees
Shut the LCBO down. Put the bottle in stores
Bad idea. Whose going to pay for our healthcare and education, genius? Most of that funding comes from the LCBO.
Thanks for your kind words. You must be a Liberal?
@62cristoforo. Get with the program
Beer and LCBo stores are all strong good paying union jobs here in Ontario. Thats why Ford the con wants to destroy that because cons love their poorly paid slave labourers #NEVERCON
@@62Cristoforo it will pay for itself when it gets put in other stores
They are not needed allow private stores to sell and let grocery store sell liquor. Cut all the excessive taxes on liquor and beer would be good too.
The problem with that is you don't get near the selection, private stores and grocery stores don't have the room to stock what the LCBO stores have. A better solution is to privatize the LCBO stores.
How will we pay for healthcare and education? Read a book
@@kenlompart9905 Most people have specific brands they like and stores will try to get what is asked for.
@@62Cristoforo
How do you feed yourself? Do you need or expect the government revenue to spoon feed it to you?
How is that any different?
The LCBO has no incentive to do it cheaper, and tons of variety is lost due to price restrictions that prevent more efficient business from selling their product under the value of a competitor at the LCBO.
@@kenlompart9905 Nonsense. Alberta is private and you get way more selection than here.
The mark up at LCBO is insane, wine that sells in spain for 3.50 Euros sells in LCBO for $25
The LCBO will still control the prices in big box stores. They do in the grocery stores.
The decision has already been made, and fighting a battle that has already been lost.
Yeah the unionized monopoly has surpassed its time...
LCBO Union….Arguing about where the furniture should go while the titanic sinks. Bye bye.
Grocery stores and beer stores still meeting my beer needs. This is LCBO's 1st and last strike. R.I.P Ford won't budge. 🍻

Beer stores and after hour sellers making a killing.
Their skill set is stocking shelves right? And yet they go on strike.......truly an example of the Dunning Kruger effect where people with limited competence in a particular domain, (in this case alcohol, which sells itself) over estimate their abilities.
not just that, alcohol is over taxed as it is, plus we have to pay someone out of our taxes $30 hour to scan bottles and cans. To this day lcbo has not put in a single self check out, while pretty much every other store has them these days...
@@snowflakesfell4407that’s probably more to do with the fact that underage drinkers could probably bypass a self checkout fairly easily. And what is 30 bucks an hour now in Ontario? That’s hardly a living wage lol you make it sound like that is a killing or something. You can’t even afford a apartment by yourself in Ontario on 30 bucks and hour
@@jacobross735 We have food basics near by and you can buy beer and wine using self check out, its been like that for years. They have a person that checks ids if they have to, I've never seen any issues there. $30 is still a good pay, don't forget you don't even need to finish high school to operate a cash register and put bottles on shelves. What's the point of going to universities and colleges then if you can save tons of money and make the same pay working at the lcbo?
@@snowflakesfell4407 no you can’t I live in Ontario and you need to see a cashier to purchase alcohol. And because not everyone is striving to be a LCBO worker lol. You can make good money roofing or doing construction/trades which doesn’t require high school either but do you think the majority of people want to make a living that way? You go to school so you can have a comfortable career with flexibility that also pays well in a field that interests you.

Should be able to buy booze in grocery stores and corner stores. Don't know why we need to monopolize the sell of booze! Too bad LCBO! Thank goodness I live near Quebec...guess I'll be going to SAQ for some of my purchases lol
@@ST-ty9ic not only grocery and corner stores. How about specialty store that cater to high end Scotches or other hard alcohol. Or shops that specialise in Sake. Owner operated with educated staff and great service. And actually provide a freaking bag to carry your purchases
@@Jim-ku6ry I completely agree. There would be so much benefit to this. The variety of products available to Ontarians/Canadians would increase greatly and what gets sold would not be controlled by one entity. And the barriers of industry entry would also lessen, it would also be a more competitive market. If I was an entrepeneur trying to make good drinks or alcohol, I could more easily enter the market. If I was a specialty store and wanted to order and sell something special from another country or from a local company, I could make that product available to consumers.

Like buying from distilleries, breweries and wineries have never been an option??? The LCBO is a product distribution centers, much like grocery stores (in which some are selling beer, wine and ciders themselves). LCBO workers are glorified grocery store workers, stock shelves, and checkout sales. How's it any different that Dave down at the corner store does the same?
Pretty sure you can’t buy directly from a distillery in Ontario - wineries and breweries, yes, but distilleries, no. Please correct me if I’m mistaken.

Drop this monopoly. I spend 6 months of the year in Hong Kong. Alcohol sales are private. There are specialty stores all over the place that are open till 1am. It's not limited to convenient stores and crocery stores. And I could go to a 7-11 at 3am and buy a bottle of scotch if I wanted to. Also go into that same store and buy a beer, find a nice park bench and sip away. There are not mass alcoholic issues and there is very little dui. I love that city.
