For Skinny Singles, I like to serve from the deuce side at 1-0 and make the returner hit straight ahead and the server slides over and then plays out of the add box. That way you are always practicing your serve crosscourt, and working on footwork too. The returner always stays on the side that corresponds to their points. The returner will always serve crosscourt and move over. You still get the straight up and cross court practice, but you get more service practice using this method too.
another advantage of doing this is to practice for unwinding a stack - you often have to return then run to the net on the other side as your partner switches at the net.
I highly recommend doing it this way because I ended up with the yips on my serve after serving straight ahead during a drill like this. Always serve at the diagonal.
The problem we 3.0s have with many drills like this is that we can't hit the ball where we're supposed to time after time. One hit that's a little off makes the return of it even further off and the pattern is lost. I guess we can keep starting over, but it gets frustrating.
Drill 1 isnt always useful, if youre always resetting bangers youll never learn to punish them, its useful to learn to reset but not how to outplay your opponent, just a heads up for using that drill Drill 3-5 is probably the most important drills in the game, it teaches you how to gain the upper hand or get into the game or when to back up when you make mistakes and teaches you what you need to work on and what works for you, what moves are predictable, etc

Love the drills. The difficult part is finding a cooperative partner to drill with.
Totally relatable!
