guys Zac did not want to have to lip sync is voice was too low for the character at the time. He really stepped up when he sang in 2 and 3. Personally I think his voice is the true Troy Bolton. Just thing of Bet on It and scream is voice was AMAZING.
His vocal range couldn’t hit the high notes necessary at the time. They brought in Drew who sang the parts for Zac as they were already recorded in Drew’s voice. Since they knew Zac couldn’t hit the high notes, in HSM 2 & 3, they lowered the vocal range necessary in the songs to fit Zac’s voice!
simpe as that - Zac was well trained but the part in HSM1 was already written for tenor ( high male voice) and Zac has a rich deep baritone plus Zac was 16, 17, going through puberty when boys voice changes a lot. Zac is perfect singer ( Simon Cowell does not offer recording contract to everyone )

That's kinda wrong. It is true that drew sang all the songs, BUT there were songs where you can hear Zac singing. They kinda mixed the voices together. For example Breaking Free. At the beginning it's Zac's voice. & then drew starts to sing. It's also pretty interesting once you hear the differences.
